SINGAPORE - Police investigated a 55-year-old man for flying a drone near the National Stadium in order to take photos of the fireworks at the 28th SEA Games closing ceremony.
The man was caught operating the unmanned aircraft without a permit in Kallang Riverside Parkclose to 9pm on Tuesday.
Following police investigations, he received a stern warning two days later.
Flying a drone in a designated Special Event Area such as the National Stadium is an offence under the Public Order Act.
The man could have been fined up to $20,000, jailed up to 12 months, or both.
A police statement said: "Flying an unmanned aircraft without the appropriate permit may pose a threat to public safety and security especially in areas where there are large crowds.
"Flying an unmanned aircraft near a fireworks area is especially dangerous and can cause severe harm to the members of public who are watching the fireworks."
