SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for the MediShield Life Household Check Exercise to Jun 23. This comes after it announced that about 350,000 households have yet to confirm their household information as part an exercise to determine MediShield Life premium subsidies, even though the initial deadline was Friday (Jun 19).

“MOH will be extending the deadline for the household check to Jun 23. This is to extend flexibility to those who have missed the Jun 19, 2015 deadline, and grant them a few more days to complete their household checks. Members of the public can complete their checks online or via the hotline at 1800-222 3399,” a spokesperson said.

The Health Ministry earlier said that as of Jun 18, half of those who had been invited to do the check, or about 390,000 households, have responded.

More than 80 per cent of the households who have responded to the check confirmed their information without further change. The rest updated their household information, for example, instances where a family member had moved but had not updated his or her address on the NRIC.

The Ministry of Health added that a "very small number of Singaporeans" opted out of granting the Government access to their financial information for the eligibility assessment. As such, those households will not be eligible for Premium Subsidies. However, they will still receive Transitional Subsidies and Pioneer Generation Subsidies, if eligible.

Those who have declined access to their financial information and subsequently wish to allow access can still call the MediShield Life hotline.

MediShield Life letters were sent to all households in May to determine the Premium Subsidies. Of the 1.2 million households, 740,000 were asked to confirm their household information and had a deadline indicated in their letters.

The Health Ministry said those who have missed the Household Check exercise need not worry, as they will still receive Premium Subsidies computed based on existing information in Government records, if eligible.

"We are glad that many of our households have already gone on the internet, or called the hotline, to confirm their household composition," said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong. "And for those who have not done so, we have extended the timeline.

"Over the next few days, you can continue to do so, if you have not already done so. Even after that, do not worry. If you eventually find that there is something wrong with your household composition and you want to make a correction, you can always continue to contact us."

The next phase of MediShield Life will see the Government release the list of pre-existing illnesses in July, which require a 30 per cent higher premium.
