SINGAPORE - A key player for Singapore's SEA Games sepak takraw team is fighting for his life after he was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday morning.

Azreen Sairudin, 25, is in critical condition at Tan Tock Seng Hospital after the motorcycle he was riding on with his brother collided with a car along the Seletar Expressway. His brother, 21-year-old Aqil Sairudin, died from his injuries.

Said Singapore Sepak Takraw (PERSES) secretary general Abdul Halim Kader: "Azreen is still in the operating theatre and in a serious condition. The thoughts of the team and PERSES are with Azreen's family."

National coach Padzli Othman had singled Azreen out as one of the key men to Singapore's hopes of doing well in the regu event.

The men's regu team is due to play their first group matches against Thailand and Indonesia at the Singapore Expo on Monday.
