View Full Version : Taking public transport to cheong places in johor bahru thread

The reason why I am opening this thread is that we can have a consolidated information on how to take public transport to the cheong places for easy reference. :D

As the cost of living in JB has risen quite substantially over the recent years, it is good to save on transport expenditure so that we can spend more on good food and better cheong package.

Although this thread is more relevant to sporean who does not drive, however it will also benefit the minority of msian cheongsters without their own transport. :)

As we are aware that during late March before Msia implemented its 6% GST, taxi fare in Johor Bahru has increased tremendously. The following are the component parts of the fare increase:

a) Flag down fare increase from rm3.00 to rm3.30

b) Journey fare increase from 85cents to rm1.25 every kilometre travelled.

c) Time fare increase from 10 sens every 21seconds to 25sens every 30seconds. Which means you will need to pay extra rm30 if there is a traffic jam for one hour which is possible if you are travelling to custom during a peak period. (1min=50sen, 60min=3000sens)

The time fare increase is the most critical and contribute the most to the total fare increase. Last time, the time fare was charged 30sen per min but now is 50sen per min. (almost double) As many roads in JB especially the city area are always jam during peak and off-peak season, taking a cab with the new time fare means commuter will have to pay much more.

For example, I took a cab from mount austin to city square. When there is no jam, the taxi fare costs about 22 ringgit. However when there is a congestion, it will costs 28 ringgit or maybe more and depending on how long the traffic jam would last. However, before the taxi fare increase at most the fare only registered 16-17 ringgit on the metre. But if you take bus, the bus fare only cost you rm2.30 nia.

Since now the taxi fare is expensive, you will notice that many taxi driver will want to switch on the metre unlike last time which they will just quote you a lump sum price for travelling from point A to point B.

However, for me rite now, I will only take a cab occasionally when I am in a rush or some ulu places which the bus doesn't reach.

Sometimes I do drive but would still prefer to take public transport to cheong as it is more economical and adventurous and without the need to worry about tol fee, parking fee, petrol fee and to get a parking lot.

The following below are my knowledge and experience in taking public transport (bus) to many towns in Johor Bahru which I would like to share with samsters. Kindly correct me if my info is outdated or inaccurate.

Brudders are also welcome to add your input and share your experience in taking public transport.

You can take Maju service 10, Causeway Link service 23 and Transit Link service 123. You can take these buses from JB sentral and alight at the bus-stop near permas jaya macdonald. Once you alight, you may walk to the row of shophouses for cheong places like :

Thanks bro for the information.

I do take the occasional bus in JB but do not have enough info at times.

Those who are unfamiliar can always inform bus driver where you going and they will prompt you.

Thanks again for sharing.

One thing to note about taking bus in Johor bahru is not like taking bus in Singapore. The frequency of the buses arrival is not always consistent, especially for the buses that do not leave from the bus terminals.

Unlike Singapore bus which are obliged to arrive punctually at the designated bus -stop and commuters can even know the estimated arrival time of the bus approaching the bus-stop by checking the app store using I-phone. :p

In JB, there are generally more buses in the morning than in the afternoon. The frequency of buses reduces as it gets later into the day. :)

However, buses that leave from bus terminals like Larkin, Jln Wong ah fook, JB sentral are more punctual as the buses are not allowed to wait at the bus bay for too long as there are always next arrival bus approaching the bus terminal.

JB Sentral to Jalan Sri Pelangi
You can take bus service 10A or 101 to Jalan Sri pelangi which is a long stretch of road spanning from Restoran Mun Gi all the way to the Hawk tyre shop. There are basically 2 bus-stops at Jalan sri pelangi for samsters to alight.

The first bus-stop is near the wash car place opposite Once more café. If alight at this bus-stop, you can easily walk to Pelangi leisure mall giant. The nearby massage joints include:
1) Tien ye mp - 6-8 prc masseuses
2) Footy care massage centre (subsidiary of Xiao long nu mp) - along jalan serempang
3) Galeri reflexology mp (along jalan serempang)
4) Ginho mp (along jalan serempang)
5) Feel reflexology along jalan pingai beside sambal house or internet café. Last time use to have hj, bj, fj, b2b by the viets or thais.
6) Xiao lin long mp along jalan pingai - local milf massage
7) Best place mp along jalan pingai (used to be very popular last time)
8) Good power reflexology along jalan pingai (if not wrong is a subsidiary of onlyone mp)
9)Thong yee thong reflexology along jalan kuning.
10) Xiao Long Nue mp along jalan kuning all prc as the name implies

However, if you alight at the second bus-stop along jalan sri pelangi infront of Yamaha music shop near sekolah agama taman pelangi, you may walk to the following nearby massage centres like:
11)Foot mark reflexology at jalan perang where the hawker centre is.
12) Feel good health centre beside foot mark mp.
13) Restylus mp along jalan perang.
14) Mp 78 reflexology at jalan perang beside MS elevator shop. (have NL and bakso)
15) U reflexology along jalan sri pelangi beside seven eleven

At almost reaching the end of jalan sri pelangi, where hong leong bank is, the bus does not go straight anymore but turn to jalan kuning. Therefore from the second bus-stop you have to walk straight further up of the jalan sri pelangi and you will come across the following massage joints:

16) Kings massage and spa opposite Hotel Sri Asian - a popular joint with many thai young masseuse, nice environment.
17) Only one mp above Chinese medical shop - about 5-7 prc massage girls.

Bro.. do you ever take public to Bukit Indah area?.. i see google map... far sia.

Take CW3 (Jr. East) or CW6 (Boon Lay) better - even if you pay in SGD. Now CW3 goes to Gelang Patah for a stopover but till total journey shouldn't exceed 1 hr after leaving Jr. East Int.

You can also take CW3 from Larkin if you want to Bukit Indah (opposite direction). Think it's RM3 if I'm not wrong.

Bro, I do agree with you that it is rather far from Bukit indah jusco (which is the alighting point for the public bus) to the cheong places in bukit indah that are concentrated at the paris spa/alliance bank and oldtown kopitiam areas.

I have taken about 20 mins to walk from jusco bukit indah to paris spa once which the distance is about 1.5km apart..

However from paris spa to oldtown kopitiam bukit indah the distance is another 1.5km-1.8km and would take me about another 20 minutes if I need to walk there by foot.

However, one thing unique about the bus operating in JB is that the bus driver in his discretion, can allow the passenger to alight at any convenient and safe location other than a designated bus-stop.

Whereas in spore, passengers are only allowed to board and alight at the approved bus-stop. :p

Should the bus by chance passes via Tesco bukit indah before terminating at jusco bukit indah, then the bus passenger can press the bell and alight near tesco which is nearer to the cheong places. :D

Worst scenario is to take a cab to your desired joint from jusco and the cab fare will likely be cheap as the journey is short. :)

Thanks bro for the update. Recently I also noticed that CT1 do pass by jalan sri pelangi. The travel route taken by CT1 is as follows:

The bus will start from JB Sentral via Bukit Chagar then to Stulang Laut (where the Zon is). After that it will pass by jalan sri pelangi (Taman Pelangi) then to Bakar Batu (where the malay kampong is) and then finally loop at Bayu Puteri.:)

CT1 is a yellow bus from causeway link. If you notice carefully, the shape of CT1 looks more like a tram rather than a "bus". :D

For the benefit of newbie who just started to cheong in JB, there are some basic facts to know which will make travelling easier for them.

After come out from the custom CIQ complex, there are basically two main roads branching out from JB city centre and they are known as jalan skudai and jalan tebrau..

The buses queuing at Jalan Wong Ah Fook are schedule to travel to the Western part of Johor bahru via Jalan Tun Abdul Razak before connecting to Jalan Skudai which is a very very long stretch of road that ends in Skudai Tol plaza at the north-south highway.

West JB is becoming more developed in recent years due to many iskandar development has been built around the region. Many banks and some govt departments have also shifted to the bukit indah areas. The largest areas of the western part of Johor is Skudai and it covers the housing estates such as Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Taman Skudai Baru, Taman Bukit Indah, Taman Perling and Taman Nusa Bestari and Taman University. All these townships have many massage parlours and hanky panky joints.

On the other hand, the buses at JB sentral bus terminal are scheduled to travel to North, South and East Johor Bahru via Jalan Tebrau before connecting to other roads like
1) east coast highway leading to permas jaya
2) pasir gudang highway leading to seri alam, masai, etc
3) jalan serampang leading to taman pelangi
4) jalan sutera leading to taman sentosa
5) jalan dato sulaiman leading to KSL, holiday plaza, etc

South JB is the main city centre or call bandaraya in bahasa which has a link to Singapore via the causeway. It is an area with old housing estates of more than 30 years old. Important estates of this area include Taman Pelangi, Taman Century and Taman Sentosa.

All these places which ever once flooded with many hotel health centres, pubs, papaya farms, dirty lupsup bars with strip shows, black glass salon, coffee shop with short time (you sit down drink coffee and many local WL will walk around for you to choose to book) and shophouse massage parlour, etc

North JB covers area like setia indah, mount Austin, desa jaya, desa tebrau, tama gaya, desa cermelang and ulu tiram (which is quite ulu:D). The main centre of the region is at Taman Johor Jaya, and it can be accessed via the trunk road Jalan Tebrau. Recently, the Mount Austin area has become very developed due to close distance to famous shopping mall like Jusco Tebrau City, Tesco extra and the upcoming IKEA(will be almost as big as Jusco building after construction) located in the vicinity. Mount Austin has many shophouse massage parlours opening up in the past few years to cater to the needs of the residents there and mostly concentrated at jalan mutiara emas, Austin perdana, Austin height where macdonald is, etc.

East JB is an area where housing estate like permas jaya, seri alam, masai, megaria, etc are located. The area also include Pasir Gudang which has been there for 20 over years and are both a port city as well as a manufacturing hub. The most well developed township is permas jaya with many cheong places, great food, shopping mall and many hotels.

JB Sentral to Amansari Spa
If you want to save money, you can take transit link city bus service 133 from jb sentral to masai and then take a cab to the spa.

The route of the bus will be as follows:

Board the bus at JB sentral pass Taman Pelangi then to Pandan City via jalan tebrau. After that it will continue to go to Tebrau City and reach Plentong via jalan Johor jaya. After that the bus will enter pasir gudang highway all the way to Masai.

There are 2 routes that you can take from there.

The first route.
If you alight at the bus stop with the overhead bridge just after the first seri alam flyover and after shell station, you will have to take a cab at the bus-stop to get to amansari spa by U-turn via the second seri alam interchange and back to the first interchange to persiaran seri alam which will lead to amansari spa.

The second route
Take the bus to the end which is the kota masai bus terminal then get a cab to amansari spa. But although this way not so confusing and easier to get a cab, however the journey from the terminal to the spa is still rather far away.

Alternatively, if you want to proceed directly to the spa without all these hassle from the custom, just take a cab at city square area and tell the driver you want to go to:

Amansari Residence Resort

Jalan Persiaran Seri Alam, Bandar Seri Alam Masai

The amansari de spa is inside the resort.

JB Sentral to Taman Sentosa (jalan sutera & jalan perisai)

There are many buses that goes to taman sentosa area. You can take the following buses listed below or any other bus that goes to ulu tiram terminal or kota tinggi terminal.

Transit link (citybus) bus no. 133 & 188
Maju bus no. 208, 225, 227
JB Central line bus no. 717

hmm...probably will just take a cab at city square to save all the trouble. But does the cab there go by meter or can negotiate price one? Scared kena chop carrot sia.

If you take the cab at JB sentral taxi stand, you need to buy a ticket for taking the taxi. The taxi will not run by metre and the journey is charges a fix price and cannot be negotiated.

The price of the taxi ticket is usually more costly than hiring a cab on the road.

Alternatively, after get out from the CIQ complex walk to the JB sentral where the train ticket are sold and then take escalator down to the ground floor.

There are plenty of taxi awaiting and queuing there for customer. It is opposite ground floor of city square

Since the taxi fare has been revised to the cab driver's advantage, if don't go by metre they maybe will rugi, so they are likely to use the metre. :)

At which level is NY spa located in New York Hotel?
what bus no. to take from city square and how many stops to reach?

Kindly take note that there are in fact 2 bus-stop along jalan wong ah fook and don't board at the wrong bus-stop.

The first bus-stop is near public bank which is directly opposite city square are lined with many buses which are schedule to go to the west via jalan skudai to places like TUTA (huang ho), Taman U (da xie chen), Taman Perling and takes up most of the space along the road.

The second bus-stop is infront of Lido hotel which is directly opposite the newly constructed KOMTAR building is the place where bus going to Kota Tinggi, Masai or Ulu Tiram will stop at.

Take bus from there and alight at the bus-stop just after city plaza and overhead bridge. (just 2 bus-stop away from jalan wong ah fook)

After that walk straight and then turn left to Jalan Dato Abdullah Tahir where the new York hotel is. Will pass by many car wash shops along the way.

New York spa is at level 2 of the hotel. The walking distance from bus-stop to the spa is about 500 metres.

If worst come to worst, still not quite sure where to board the bus, then alternatively from level 3 of city square cross the bridge to JB sentral, go down the escalator and take the bus at the bus terminal.

JB Sentral to Stulang (Zon)

You can take those buses that goes to permas jaya as they will pass by Stulang laut too.

Maju service 10

Causeway Link service 23

Transit Link service 123

Can also take the following buses as it got pass by stulang laut:

Causeway link service No. 22. The route as follows:
JB Sentral ˇ Stulang Laut ˇ Taman Pelangi ˇ Taman Iskandar ˇ Sri Stulang

Causeway link bus service CT1. The route of this bus was mentioned in post No. 11

The alighting point is at the bus stop with a telephone booth near restoran sindo seafood, the background is a blue building called De'Stulang.

After that walk straight along jalan Ibrahim sultan for about 300 metres before reaching the Zon.

Here there are many china freelancer will go to the drinking area in the zon to approach customer and talk cock sing song. :)

Once they got a deal, they will bring their customer to their nearby apartment where they rented for sex or alternatively rent a cheap hotel room at stulang area.

You may also visit the high class NZ spa at the zon.:p

If you want to explore further, can go to the ferry terminal at the zon building and take a ferry to Batam Centre...:D

Thanks bro. Will try out this weekend

If you reach the Zon hotel, you will notice that there will be some prc or viet girls hanging around at 2nd floor and the upper few floors to hunt for their customers. Some of them will also loiter around makan place and don't be surprise you may also find them at the Duty Free Shop.

PRC ladies mentality is unlike local chinese girls. To them their culture is to make money, don't give a damn about malu. (向钱看, not 向前看) :D

They usually charged between rm150-200 for short time at their rented apartment room nearby at stulang but you can try negotiate with them.

However, if prc lady is not your cup of tea, then proceed to the NZ spa in hotel zon for local chinese girl at rm248 per shot.

The facilities of NZ spa are very well maintained and it has big pools and the buffet food is nice. It has a better ambience and furnishing than bluewave.

Although in terms of selection of package girls not as many as blue wave, but overall, you are still likely to enjoy the service there...:)

Happy hunting, cheers ! :p

.Was at JB Sentral late morning on sunday. Wah lan eh now all buses frm jalan wong ah fook have to pick up passengers fm jb Sentral that place become super jam and chaotic. Damn sian the stupid mbjb never think before doing this

Yes I was also quite surprise on Saturday that the buses from jalan wong ah fook that goes to the West JB like (Tmn U, Tuta, bukit indah) stops at JB sentral to wait for passenger. :)

It is logical for buses that goes to jalan tebrau stops at jalan wong ah fook bus stop because jalan wong ah fook is connected to jalan tebrau.

But it does not make sense if ask those buses that goes to the west (jalan skudai) to detour back to JB Sentral.

The road between CIQ complex and JB sentral is already very small (only 2 lanes) and there are so many road users like:

1) Malaysian cars come and pick up their family members who work in Singapore at the ground floor of JB Sentral use this road.

2) Buses that goes to jalan tebrau need to exit the bus terminal also use this road.

3) Taxis also pass by this road as passenger need to alight.

4) Those buses that goes to Larkin sometimes transit at JB sentral bus terminal and eventually need to leave and use this road.

5) Plus now, the buses from jalan wong ah fook going to the west also use this road

Therefore this road will be super congested even during non-busy period let alone peak period, couldn't imagine ....

Hope they will put an end to this implementation soon... :o

Brudder, sorry to hear that you miss out on the hj plus roaming.

Bangkok spa is a bit more upmarket, so it is more like a clean joint.

Most (but not all) high class massage parlour mostly only provide massage without hanky panky.

But there is one exception called king's massage at jalan sri pelangi, the place is nice, tom yam is young and provide extra special service... :p

Hi bro,

Mind to share the cost & service at King's massage?

Happy bonking :)

The rates of Thai massage when I went there 2 years ago were:

1hour@rm53

1.5hour@rm79

2hours@rm99

Need to add 50 ringgit for handjob

Need to add 100 ringgit for handjob + roaming top & bottom(subjective, some tomyam allow, some don't, some allow top but not bottom, etc)

Need to add 100 ringgit for B2B + BJ (subjective, some tomyam allow, some don't) :)

For our Singapore brothers,

I see many of our Sg bros are still taking public transportation for mp hunting. Surely its economical, but at cost of your time and hassle. While many hidden gems are not accessible via public transports.

I have been running under the radar personal driver service for a while now. Mp with B2B, HJ, FJ... or even clean ones. Your choice. I drive you there, I wait til you are done, & drive you back. Hassle free. MPV, can fit your whole family if u want.

I have a day job, so service only available as follows:
1. Weekends, (from JB CIQ or straight from your doorstep in Singapore).
2. Weekdays night (from JB CIQ only).

Rate & booking, drop me a PM

Public buses are a good and economical way for you to reach your cheonging destination. I learnt it and now go for public buses to most of my cheonging destonations around JB. Cheap. A trip from JB Sentral to the Sri Tebrau area will cost you only RM1.30. Can save the taxi charges for food, or cigarettes (for smokers).

Here is a small tip I can share. Your first trip to whichever destinations, take a taxi. I suggest you take the coupon taxi from JB Sentral. It might cost a little bit more than meter fare, but at least you know you will not risk being cheated by drivers who might take longer route.

On your return trip to CIQ, take a public bus. Most bus stopa now have bua directories installed showing you the bus routes and fares. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

or use uber.

the base fare is RM1. surge charges apply.

For a 10 mins trip from Citi square to Dama Huayuan its between RM6-7.

from dama walk to sentosa is about 10 mins stroll.

by the red taxi, its double the amount.

Just sharing my experience to VIP spa via public transport.

Went to Queen's Street first.
It's walkable from Bugis MRT actually... behide Sim Lim Tower.
http://i.imgur.com/0PMV2M6.jpg?2
The price is now SGD3.30. Supposedly have EZlink option, though not sure where to tap. I paid in cash instead. The above pic is where you pay.

Immigration is normal... Just remember to keep the receipt so that you can board back the Causeway Link yellow buses to cross the causeway.

Now the big challenge (for me). Taking Johor public bus. Quite lost as the place a bit chaotic. There are several bays... and I thought the bay numbers were bus numbers. lol. Went to bay 10 to look for 10b, etc.

Actually, the numbers for the bus is written just below the big bay number.
http://i.imgur.com/z5DOXIN.jpg?1

Finally saw 227 which is a bus I can take. Went up paid 1.30 to Plaza Sentosa. This price, no change. The bus numbers are quite small and harder to find than Singapore buses. But as long as you know what bus you want, should be no problem.

Next problem... how to know when to alight? I got my google map (saved offline map, no data plan also can use), and find the bus stop on the map. Wah lan.. the bus stops damn far away... I alight and see still have to walk very far.... and THEN! nabei... google map don't have all the johor bus stops. I should have alighted after 2 more stop instead of the one which google map should have stop. Anyway, lesson learned.

Their bus-stop quite ugly color one... forgot to take photo, but you should be able to know them once you see one. Btw, there is NO information on the bus-stops. No idea what bus stops at the bustop there. On my way back, by luck, 10b comes along and I waved and it stops, bringing me back to JB sentral.

All bus only accept exact change. Can pay more of course... because I have exhausted all my change liao. Next time, pay 2 riggit for 1.30 trip.

From JB checkpoint, buy ticket for CW2 back to queen's st terminal. The price is 3.40 ringgit. Same thing, keep the ticket so that you can board back the bus after Singapore checkpoint.

... end of sharing.

I think the yellow bus at our woodland check point is faster than our local 170, 160 and 950.

Is there anyway to counter this issue as train tickets also very hard to get sometime

Baguss City hotel was formerly the Amasari City hotel...... same group as Amansari spa. :D

If you planning to overnight in JB.... that is a good hotel as they have in-house chickens from LOS :D
Right at your doorstep and dun have to leave the hotel...... and if the hotel is fully booked.... just take the ON with the WL and sleep in her room...... save your hotel room fees. :)

However ON is only available from 12.00 midnight onwards.

GrabHitch is a carpool scheme..... not taxi service. :D
There is no meter charge and you pay what is the agreed price BEFORE you board the Grabcar..... no hidden extra charges. :)

This GrabHitch scheme will take away business from the pawang chia that charges exorbitant $60 rates.
