Dear PM Lee
I refer to “Wages may stagnate or even fall if productivity does not keep pace: PM Lee (http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/wages-may-stagnate-or-even-fall-if-productivity-does-not)”. (ST, 30 Apr)

This is the umpteenth time PAP has tried to prepare/force workers to accept stagnant wages/decrease by linking them to productivity growth. PAP is trying to wriggle out of its failure.

Historical data confirm there was never any link where PAP’s remuneration is concerned and your speechwriter should not insult his scholarly intelligence with half-baked arguments. Worse, PAP’s salary has been increasing despite falling productivity!

Singaporeans have already seen through all the BS about linking wage increase to productivity growth so any further propaganda will likely backfire. I really don’t know who is daft – PAP or Singaporeans? https://likedatosocanmeh.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/wlemoticon-sadsmile11.png?w=652Let’s look at this objectively.

When ministers’ salaries were first increased in 1970, 55 years ago, your daddy LKY wanted to “demonstrate his commitment to the policy of no wage increases without productivity growth (http://heresthenews.blogspot.sg/2012/01/insight-what-price-minister-42-years-of.html)”. In 1973, LKY’s salary increased from $3,500 to $9,500, an increase of 171%. Did productivity increase by 57% annually for 3 years to justify LKY’s new salary?

I’ve already researched all the past ministerial salary increases in this post (https://likedatosocanmeh.wordpress.com/2014/09/21/20140921-singapore-pm-salary-increased-by-5200-since-independence-2/) and it is confirmation there has NEVER been any linkage between wages and productivity growth where PAP is concerned.

Without any parliamentary checks, your annual pay package, excluding MP allowance, was suka suka increased to $3.76 million in 2008 (http://www.psd.gov.sg/docs/default-source/module/press-release/press-release---13-dec-2007-administrative-officers-judicial-and-statutory-appointment-holders-to-get-4-to-21-pay-increase.pdf). Did productivity increase by 8,900% since independence? $3.76 million/$42,000)

Due to election losses at GE 2011, PAP’s hearing suddenly improved and your pay package was adjusted downwards to $2,200,000 in 2011. Did productivity decrease by 41% from 2008 to 2011? ($1.56 million/$3.76 million)

There you have it – ZERO linkage between wage increase and productivity growth!

If PM Lee is still unclear, let’s take a look at some productivity figures:

2011 – 1.3%
2012 – negative 2.7%
2013 – ZERO
2014 – negative 0.8% (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/business/singapore/singapore-falling-behind/1665666.html)

Total productivity for last 4 years was negative 2.2%! PM Lee should thank your lucky stars for an unchanged pay package of $2.2 million despite falling productivity.
Now, since PAP’s salary has never been linked to productivity growth, why the double standard with workers’ salary increase?

Mind you, Singaporeans did not pay PAP the highest political salary in the world to repeatedly fail to raise productivity. Who was in charge of raising productivity? Why was NO ONE ever held accountable for such abject failure?
Instead of addressing the issue head on, our jiak liao bee scholars keep implementing useless schemes merely to show something has been done. Worse, tax dollars have been used to rename the organisation 4 times. The Productivity Standard Board (PSB) was a statutory body, affiliated with MTI from 1996 to 2001. It was renamed SPRING Singapore in 2002 but is still a statutory body affiliated with MTI.

Does the PAP believe a renaming exercise will increase productivity? Is it productive to spend million$ to rename an organisation which is basically doing the same job?

If SPRING Singapore is not able to deliver, it should be aptly renamed ‘Spring a leak Singapore’. lol

PAP scholars have refused to acknowledge failure. MTI survey in Q2 2014 (http://www.mti.gov.sg/ResearchRoom/SiteAssets/Pages/Economic-Survey-of-Singapore-Second-Quarter-2014/BA_2Q14.pdf) – “Some analysts have pointed to this weak performance (stagnant productivity) as an indication that our restructuring drive has failed.HOWEVER ….”. The Economics Division, MTI came up with its own set of figures to justify the weak performance!

The failure to raise productivity rests squarely on PAP’s shoulders. What happened to PAP’s so called ‘A’ team? Or did PAP give Singaporeans its Alamak team?

PAP should not keep absolving itself by shifting the blame to unproductive workers. Workers do not implement policies. Workers are just daft, economic digits to PAP.

Since Singapore’s independence, your salary has increased by 5,200% without a corresponding increase in productivity. Likewise for ministers and top civil servants. This means our top-heavy PAP government has been overpaid and workers have been taken for a ride.

As the board of directors of Singapore Inc, PAP should have taken a deep bow and committed hara kiri for its repeated failure to raise productivity. This is a suggestion from one of your ‘directors’ (http://mothership.sg/2015/02/khaw-boon-wan-on-ahpetc-in-the-good-old-days-japanese-ceo-board-of-directors-committed-suicide-over-mismanagement/).

I humbly suggest to you a better option – link PAP’s salary increase to productivity growth. That will rid the government of jiak liao bee scholars who have continued to impose on Singaporeans their theories of reality. They belong in a classroom.

Regards
Shortchanged by PAP’s productivity double standard
