SINGAPORE — In her third brush with the law here, veteran television show host Quan Yifeng was yesterday fined S$800 and banned from driving for three months for knocking down a pedestrian at a crossing last year.

Quan, 40, had pleaded guilty to one count of inconsiderate driving under the Road Traffic Act.

On July 2 last year, at around 11am, Quan knocked down Mr Raman Selvaraj, 28, at the traffic light junction of Selegie Road and Sungei Road. The signal was green at the time.

In mitigation, the MediaCorp artiste said she had taken her cue from a vehicle that was turning in front of her and had not noticed that a pedestrian was at the junction.

Quan said she had immediately got out of her car after the accident and helped to move the victim to the side of the road. She also attended to him until an ambulance arrived.

The court was told that Quan offered Mr Selvaraj US$1,000 (S$1,260) in compensation and said she would take care of his medical expenses.

This is not Quan’s first brush with the law. In 2011, she was placed on 15 months’ probation after an altercation with a cab driver. In 1996, she was fined S$1,000 for fighting with a bowling alley assistant.

The penalty for inconsiderate driving is a maximum fine of S$1,000 and a jail term of up to six months on the first conviction. CLAIRE HUANG
