National Development Minister spoke to the Media yesterday at the botanical gardens, one of the tribute sites set aside for Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and he said that it was Mr Lee who made Singapore a Garden City.

He called Mr Lee the "Chief Gardener" of Singapore and said that it was because of him that Singapore kept its nature intact as we developed.
Khaw Boon Wan also attributed the policies of Home ownership, urban planning and the transformation of downtown Singapore as other things which were contributed by Mr Lee.

While speaking to the media, Mr Khaw started to cry saying that “I feel the loss most deeply. Without Mr Lee, there will be no Garden City.”
He recalled how Lee Kuan Yew was a very demanding critic of his ministry but it was because of these questions and criticisms that the National Development Ministry was inspired.

On top of the title of chief gardener, Khaw Boon Wan also said that Mr Lee was the Chief Architect of Singapore.

At the botanical gardens memorial site, the special orchid, the Aranda Lee Kuan Yew now grows beside the Vanda Kwa Geok Choo.
