View Full Version : Worried about telling hospital doctor that i visited sex workers.

Went to the hospital to see a specialist. He asked me this question : if i had visited sex workers and I was honest about it and I said 'yes'.

Now, I'm worried that in future, my employers would be able to find out this piece of sensitive and very private info about me. It obviously can cause me embarrassment and even jeopardize my chances of getting hired.

I've also heard about cases when employers somehow found out these kinds of sensitive things about their employees. Or even insurance companies too.

I've an upcoming appointment again with another doctor at the hosp. Should I bring up this issue with the doc and what do I say?

Any words of advice for me?

Thank you Bros.

Bros, what should I do?

Which specialist did you see? And where? Private clinic or public?
Most of your health data are not shared with other hospital/clinics.

I don't think it is relevant to answer them that you visited sex workers unless you are going for treatment for std or infectious disease.

there is no need to worry abt it...you should be honest with them.
Doctors have ethical duties to respect and protect your rights and dignity.
if they dont.. take them to task :)

If visiting sex workers will cause someone unemployed, just imagine what would happen to our unemployment rate.

I thought of going for an anonymous HIV test and then if and hopefully I get that HIV negative result, then I go back and tell the doc I am HIV negative and ask him to write it down on record that I am tested HIV negative.

Because that time the moment I told the doc I visited sex workers, I saw him writing down something like 'STD' or whatever, I couldn't see what else he wrote. He probably wrote down something like I was possibly exposed to STDs or something.

Would my plan be okay? So that in future I don't run into problems with insurance companies or whoever else.

Your health records, including the fact that you visited sex workers can only be accessed the doctor treating you. If you do not have std or aids, then it is pretty safe.

Bros, I went to do an anonymous HIV test and the result was negative.

Should I tell the doctor(a govt hospital doctor) of my result that I am HIV negative? Or should I not tell and just keep quiet about it?

I thought that by telling him that I am HIV negative, that should clear the air and thus avoid any possible problems in future(e.g like if insurance companies decide to ask me to do a HIV test, because I heard that insurance companies are able to somehow force out medical records).

I am also afraid that the doctor might paotoh me by reporting me to the authorities that I am a possible carrier, if I don't reveal my HIV negative status.

What do you all think I should do?

TS, u're paranoid u know.
1. Insurance company cannot get info from the hospital without ur consent!
2. If they've ur consent, it to enquire whether u've any pre-existing illness that would void/violate the insurance policy.

Please in future keep ur dick in ur pants if u're so afraid of being `caught'.

U can PCC if ur urge comes or get legally married...then no need to worry when u need to release :D.

TS, if you don feel like telling the doc you visited sex worker, just tell the doc you have mulitple sex partner and everytime you pay after sex but they do it free for everyone else except you.

If the doctor is a male is still okay but if is a female doctor , it will be quite hard to tell the truth. That's if I am in TS shoes.

HIV blood test is a very common blood test in Singapore, TS don't be so paranoid. Many companies ( especially healthcare related ones) need their employees to have their blood drawn to check for HIV, so as that these employees don't spread HIV around. Hope this helps. Cheers.

In theory only.... but in real life any staff working in the medical records offices can access your records..... and dun forget now these records are linked nationwide in the Singapore health system database...... so there are more than 101 weak links for that someone determined enough to gain access to your files.

I do my yearly checkup and include all the tests while I am in BKK. Not only is it cheaper than locally but also my records are handed over to me as I am a foreigner to them so they do not need to keep them. :D

First off, what is your appointment with the hospital all about? By knowing yr purpose then only can we advise if the question is relevant.
Anyway, you are really paranoid. Doctors cannot and will not disclose your medical condition to anyone.

But, only if you were infected by HIV, than the doctors would disclose your medical condition, right ?

the thing is, i scared if the doctor just on suspicion that i might have hiv, go and report me to MOH because i told him i visited sex workers, again which was due to his fucking question when he asked me if i did visit sex workers, to which i said 'yes'.
