I suppose this can happen anywhere. I wonder why. Can't be stress. Stay home housekeeper with a fully employed professional husband beats toddler daughter, kinda hard to imagine, but it happened. May the kid rest in peace.

MISSISSAUGA — A three-year-old girl was horrifically beaten over the head before she died, a Crown prosecutor suggested to jurors this morning in the murder trial for the Mississauga Valley woman.
In her short life, Niyati Jha suffered several injuries that included head fractures, rib and spinal injuries and bruises to her neck, face, forearm and thighs.
Jurors heard graphic evidence that the young girl was beaten over the head.
On the day she died, Sept. 21, 2011, she sustained significant brain damage, bruising, swelling and bleeding, prosecutor Jill Prenger told jurors.
"Nandini's brain was so swollen that brain matter was coming out of her left ear," Prenger told the court.
Prenger said doctors, including a forensic pathologist, will testify that "significant force was required to cause the head injuries."
Nandini Jha, 37, the child's mother, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. Prenger suggested to jurors that the accused woman will claim some of the injuries to her daughter were caused when a bookcase fell on her.
But, the Crown will call evidence from an engineer who examined the bookcase, and also from Nandini's husband, Sarojanand Jha, that will suggest this didn't happen.
It's ultimately up to the eight women and four men on the jury to decide whether these "serious, unusual" injuries are the result of an accident or because "Nandini Jha beat Niyati Jha to death."
The day before Niyati died, Nandini told her husband that her daughter had a cold and wouldn't be attending kindergarten that morning, court heard. She later called her husband to say something was wrong with their youngest daughter. He came home and immediately realized his daughter was not well.
"She was breathing but not waking up," Prenger told jurors. "Her mouth wouldn't open."
Jha was taken to a walk-in clinic not far from the family's Green Meadow Cres. home, where they lived in the basement.
Staff there immediately called 9-1-1 and Peel Region Paramedics rushed her to Mississauga Hospital. A paramedic noticed Niyati displayed decorticate posturing – a stiff arched back, outstretched legs – a type of posturing which signals severe damage in the brain, court heard.
The following day, Jha was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children and declared brain dead. She was taken off of life support.
After her death, Peel Regional Police forensic officers spent eight days at the Jha home and found Niyati Jha's blood on four walls, on children's clothing and in the laundry room, Prenger told jurors.
The dead girl's father, Sarojanand Jha, who is testifying this afternoon in Brampton court, worked long hours as a computer programmer while Nandini stayed home to watch the children, Prenger said. The couple immigrated to Mississauga from India several years ago.
The trial before Justice Deena Baltman is expected to last two months.
