One of the guidelines of designing surveys is to avoid posing leading questions which direct your respondents towards a desired reply.

That is, if you are a respectable and impartial surveyor looking for a totally honest and objective survey result.

In the case of Reach, the mantra clearly did not quite apply when they conducted a telephone poll involving some 1,145 (they claimed) Singaporeans on the latest draconian set of law proposed by the PAP to ban alcohol island wide from 10.30 am to 7 am daily.

One of the questions in the survey was: Do you think feel public drunkenness is a serious issue?

Which was followed up by another question: Do you think the proposed ban will help address this issue?

With such leading questions (“public drunkenness”) and loaded words (“serious”), how did you think the supposedly randomly selected participants would have responded, especially if the images of the Little India Riot are still fresh in their mind?
