MAN FINED RECORD $19,800 FOR HIGH-RISE LITTERING

A 38 year old man was fined a total of $19,800 for 34 different acts of high rise littering, the highest fine yet for the offence.
He was also sentenced to 5 hours of corrective work.
NEA explained in a statement that it had received 5 complaints from residents about cases of high rise littering happening at Block 224C Compassvale Walk between June 2013 and June 2014.
In response to the feedback, the town council and NEA put up educational posters and conducted stake-outs to try and catch the offender.
Despite these original efforts, the problems persisted and NEA set up video surveillance cameras between November 14 to Nov 19 in 2013 and again on Mach 13 to March 18 in 2014.
The footage from these cameras cause 34 cases of high-rise littering by the man and this evident was used to charge the man.
The fine issued to him is the largest yet for high-rise littering and NEA explained that in 2014, it received 2,500 complaints of such littering and in most cases, the problems were solved by some simple educational outreach programs held by the town councils and grassroots.
NEA explained that when they receive lots of complaints about repeated cases, they will deploy surveillance cameras to catch culprits and they did so 600 times last year.
It has taken action against 206 people for high-rise littering in 2014.
