Can you guess what those people are doing and why they decided to submerge themselves in freezing cold weather into the storm on the Baltic coast? No they are not fishing, no, they are not surfers, and now they don’t pick up any sea food. The thing they hunt for is much more valuable, expensive and nicer looking. What’s this and why they flock to the coast of Kaliningrad first days of the New Year?
Let’s see inside:
The reason they go there is AMBER – the gemstone valued from antiquity till modern days.
Do you see this bag? It might be worth over $50,000, as one pound of this valuable nature gift is valued over $4000 on the market.
And here is how abundant it on the Kaliningrad coast after the storm – the one of just couple of places in the world where the amber is harvested.

So that’s why people go there put their wetsuits and try to oversea each bulk of the seaweed coming out of the sea in the winter time.
Hundreds of people hunting for hundreds of kilos of the amber.
By the way they risk also to get caught by the police as this is an illegal to harvest for the amber in Russia. Basically in Russia there is one rule of the law – everything that inside of the land belongs to the state, no matter if you own the land or don’t if there is oil or gold you can’t harvest it.
