35,000 people get gifts
According to the Straits Times news report “More than 35,000 people get hampers and gifts from Boys’ Brigade charity drive” (Dec 17) – “Singaporeans have risen to the occasion to donate enough food items in time to bring some Christmas cheer to more than 35,000 beneficiaries under the annual Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift campaign.”
More than 400,000 gifts in the past?
- I remember donating the beneficiaries’ desired gifts in the past, when the number of beneficiaries indicating their desired gifts was over 400,000.
Gifts grew from 7,000 to 460,000
According to the Boys’ Brigade share-a-gift web site – ”Milestones” – the number of gifts grew steadily from 1988, the year it started – from over 7,000 gifts to over 25,000, 330,000 and 430,000 gifts in 1990, 2000 and 2009, respectively.
Why dropped from 460,000 to 35,000 now?
So, does it mean that the number of gifts and beneficiaries has decreased from the high of more than 460,000 in 2007 to just more than 35,000 now?
Why?
Less “generous”?
Is it because Singaporeans have become less “generous”?
