In a case of severe food poisoning, a PRC couple fell sick and their daughter started to suffer from seizures after eating tainted food from a PRC-owned Food Stall which sold Northern China Dishes in Geylang.

The family had ordered take away from a Chinese Food stall in a Geylang Coffee Shop and ordered a cold dish, Ma Hua and braised pork knuckle, popular northern Chinese dishes, where the family is from.

They went home to eat it and the whole family ate the same things. Even the family dog enjoyed parts of the bones from the dishes.

However, later that evening Madam Li, 28, explained that she and her husband had diahorrea and their 2 year old daughter started vomiting. Even their dog vomited.

The following morning, the family took their daughter to KK Women’s and Children’s hospital where she was diagnosed with food poisoning. She was given diarrhoea and fever medicine and sent her home.

However, the two year old did not recover and had a high fever for another two days and the family brought her to hospital again late at night. She was given some glucose and sent home again only to start having seizures the next day.

Mdm Li told TNP that her daughter had turned purple and stiff and her eyes had rolled back so only the whites could be seen. She said that she thought her daughter would die.

They rushed her to hospital where she suffered from another seizure about an hour later.

She was kept in hospital for two days where she continued to have mini seizures that the doctors explained were usually just after-effects. She was deemed to be better on October 31st and was discharged but was still slightly weak.

Doctors explained that the seizures could have been from a toxin in the food or from severe dehydration from the vomiting and diahorrea

The food stall is now under investigation by the NEA and the owner from China declined to comment as investigations are ongoing.

The stall is still open and they insisted that it was an isolated incident.
