Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing explained that there are already systems in place to assist needy families.
He pointed to ComCare which is available as financial assistance for day-to-day expenses and highlighted that families can apply for such assistance though the Social Services Offices (SSOs)
Minister Chan was responding to a question about whether there could be more sources of microloans made available to help needy families financially.
He elaborated that the government is making more SSOs so that there will be 23 by the middle of next year, an increase on the 14 there are now.
Mr Chan also said that there are several credit co-operatives available for microloans for those who have the ability to repay such loans.

He also said that there is already a MicroCredit business scheme for loans for microbusinesses.
It would seem that Chan Chun Sing is implying that there is already enough help through the current systems for those in need.
Do you think that the government already does enough for those in need?
