Giselle Shi Jia Wei, a 25 year old woman, is on trial for the attempted murder of her lover, 22 year old Ms Ummul Qurratu Ain Binte Abdul.
Shi is accused of stabbing Ummul twice in the chest on July 22 2012 at a hotel room in Geylang. Shortly after stabbing her lover, Shi also stabbed herself in the chest.
Shi was charged with attempted murder while another charge of attempted suicide was dismissed.
However, Shi denies the charge and has claimed trial.
The court heard that the couple had been in a rough relationship where quarrelling was common.
The two women had met in 2010 and became romantically involved in July of 2011.
Shortly after that, Ummul moved into Shi's house without Shi's parents knowing. Because of this, Ummul spent most of her time in Shi's room.
It wasn't until May of 2012 that Shi's mother discovered that Ummul was living in their home and she asked her to leave. The couple then decided to move to Malaysia for a while before returning to Singapore.
Ummul gave a testimony in court saying that Shi was possessive and insecure. Shi had allegedly also control Ummul's life in what jobs she could take and also forced her to terminate her Facebook account.
The court heard that the couple fought often over many issues ranging from financial issues to jealousy and even petty things like the use of toiletries.
In the weeks leading up to the stabbing, the couple had actually broken up on July 14 after Shi got angry at Ms Ummul after she spilt her drink on her high heels.
Ummul explained that Shi had "flew into a rage" at the toilet of the Mink Club after the incident and Shi had ended their relationship before getting into a taxi and leaving.
However, about a week later on July 21st, Shi called Ummul and asked if they could meet one last time. Ummul, believing that Shi just needed some closure, agreed and the two met that evening.
After supper, the two went to the hotel room to engage in "physical relations" and ended up staying together until 5pm the next day when Shi has asked Ummul to get back together.
Ummul refused and so Shi "became desperate and frustrated" and pulled out a knife from her bag saying that the two would be together "whether in life or death".
Shi stabbed Ummul once in the chest but Ummul stuggled and the knife came out so she stabbed her again. Ummul managed to escape and sought help from another couple at the hotel.
