I waited for close to 3 months before going to AFA for a checkup.

Tested negative.

Am i safe or do I need to wait for another 6 months to confirm again?

Now the window period has been reduced from 6 mths to 3 mths. If u r tested at 3 mths to be negative, then u r safe.:)

Thanks for replying,

I couldn't wait till 3 months exactly. about 2 months 2 weeks tops...

Do you think i should check again in 6 months? and abstain from sex during this period?

Dear brother

It is true that 95% of those tested after their first exposure will show on the first month. On the third month, it will be almost 100% that if one is positive, the test will show up.

Thank you sir!!!!

It was really a relief when the test strip come back with only one line.

That was one of the longest 15minutes wait of my entire life.

No more commercial sex for me.

retire for good.

At 10 weeks (2 mths and 2 weeks), i would estimate the result of the accuracy to be about 98 - 99% correct. Depending on the risk you were exposed to, if you had a high risk activity, ie unprotected sex, it would be advisable to go for a 12 week test to be 99.99% sure.

In that case, wouldn't it be better if I wait for another 3 months and take the test again? since it;s better to check again at 6 month right?

Generally, you are "cleared" but if it makes you feel better to go for another test later, why not?

And congrats if you are able to abstain from commercial sex. Hopefully it last.

Cheers

Relax Bro! 3 months is the maximum waiting period (with 3rd and 4th generation ELISA tests) for HIV Antibodies to reach detectable levels.

All the best! :)

if u are not assured, why not go for a repeat test another 6 months down the road? Provided you don't expose yourself to other risks for that period...
