The Government's feedback arm, REACH, conducted a survey recently and concluded that 60% of Singaporeans feel that MDA's censorship and rating system for films and art performance is "appropriate".
The survey was conducted on over 1,500 Singaporeans aged 15 and over in the first quarter of this year. The respondents were chosen to roughly reflect the general population of Singapore in terms of age, gender, ethnicity.
19% of the respondents explained that they felt the regulations were too restrictive while only 7% felt they were too relaxed. Most, 60%, felt that they were "appropriate".
The survey also found that generally, older respondents and those who were parents, were less likely to find the MDA censorship and age rating systems to be too restrictive.
Another trend identified was that those who frequent movies and art performances generally tended to feel that the regulations were too restrictive. This group of people were also mostly part of the 67% which felt that the regulations were an important issue.

The other 33% felt that the level of MDA censorship and age rating wasn't that important an issue.
The survey also found that those who felt content should be more heavily restricted, were those who cited a "conservative society" as a reason while those who felt it should be more liberal said that it should be up to audiences to decide for themselves what is appropriate to watch.
Many of those who felt restrictions were too tight also felt it was impacting creative freedom and expression.
Talking about the survey results, REACH said that they will always "gradually calibrate" the regulations to fit the majority society view.
They explained that they need to find a balance between competing interests.
