新加坡日前迎来国庆，但浩大的庆典活动之后，垃圾工恐怕要叫苦了。据台湾“联合新闻网”8 月11日报道 ，新加坡8月9日的国庆留下了13吨垃圾，动员50人花费近7小时才清理完毕。
报道指出，随手丢垃圾且不分类，是新加坡人长久以来的习惯，新加坡国家环境局将加强执法， 以强制社区服 务对付当局口中的“垃圾虫”。
据新加坡媒体报道，近50名员工在国庆典礼结束后彻夜清理13吨垃圾，其中以塑料袋和纸屑 最不容易清理 。报道指出，根据估计及经验，每年新加坡国庆都会有12到15吨垃圾，相当于一个4口之家10 年丢弃的垃圾 总量，其中有餐盒、食物、饮料包装、水瓶，这些都将送往焚化炉烧掉。
新加坡为了减少一般民众乱丢垃圾的行为，除了重罚，还要社区服务。国家环境局公布的数据显 示，2014 年上半年就有318位“垃圾虫”被判要参加社区服务，比2013年全年多出57人。
新加坡国家环境局也在2014年上半年就发出9270张罚单，直逼2013年全年发出的9 340张罚单 。
新加坡国家环境局受访时表示，接受社区服务会让“垃圾虫”感觉丢脸，重犯比率只有3.3% 。新加坡行善 运动祕书长袁国栋向媒体表示，要让社区服务有效，就必须加强执法，直到民众提高环境意识。
