An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Responding in Parliament to questions about the recent NLB saga, Minster for Communications and Information, Yaacob Ibrahim said that the NLB is setting up a new review team that is separate from the acquisition team.

This way, there will always be a second opinion on new books coming into the public libraries and while there are currently already two teams for acquisition and review, they are not clearly separated.

Dr Yaacob said that he hopes the separation will lead to greater public confidence in the NLB review process.

There had been a lot of debate about the NLB's review process since last month when it came to light that the NLB banned several children's book because they were not "pro-family".

The books were taken off the shelves and were going to be destroyed after a member of the public complained about them.

However, many opposed the book banning and in the end, the books, which contained homosexual themes, were moved to the adult's section.
