An Israeli army captain who shot a 13-year-old Palestinian girl over 17 times in Gaza said he would have killed her even if she was 3-years-old. Soldiers described how he shot the girl twice in the head, walked away, turned back and fired a stream of bullets into her body. Doctors at Rafah's hospital said she had been shot at least 17 times.
On audio tape, the captain"clarifies" why he killed her: "Anything that moves in the zone, even if it's a 3-year-old, needs to be killed."
The case came to light after soldiers under the captain went to an Israeli newspaper to accuse the army of covering up the killing. The captain's been charged only with illegal use of his weapon and conduct unbecoming of an officer.

Israel created a new buffer zone in Gaza, shrinking the densely populated strip by 40%. It told tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee so its air force, artillery and tanks could create this uninhabitable no-man’s land of half-standing, burned-out buildings, broken concrete and twisted metal. Some Gazans were able to sift through their demolished homes to gather clothes or other scattered bits of their past lives. But many were not even able to do that as Israeli troops would open fire on them when they tried to do so.
