Parents formed a long queue today morning outside Mee Toh School (Primary) in Punggol, to sign up to do volunteer work.

Stomp contributor "Monster" said that he saw a line of parents when he went to queue at around 7.15am with his wife, who was planning to volunteer at the school.

In a phone interview with Stomp, he said that the parents probably started queuing as early as 6am, but he did not think any of them queued overnight.

The parent volunteer scheme gives P1 registration priority to parents who have put in at least 40 hours of their time and effort in a primary school, according to The Straits Times.

The Stomp contributor said that volunteering can help improve their chances of securing a place at the school for their child, but does not guarantee a spot.

He said: "It is not easy to be parents these days. But for the convenience, and because of the school's reputation, we do volunteer work to help our improve chances."
