The couple who allegedly abused their two domestic workers were slapped with fresh charges yesterday.

IT manager Tay Wee Kiat, 37, and his wife, Chia Yun Ling, 39, a sales manager, were charged in court last month with abusing their Myanmar and Indonesian maids.

Yesterday, Chia was slapped with eight fresh charges while Tay was given two additional charges.

Chia now stands accused of 19 charges in total, while her husband faces a total of 23 charges.

In the new charges, Chia is accused of failing to provide her Myanmar maid, Moe Moe Than, 26, with enough food and rest between December 2011 and November 2012.

She is also accused of ill-treating Ms Than by forcing her to eat sugar mixed with rice twice; forcing her to remove her blouse and work; and restricting her use of the toilet, causing her to pass motion into a plastic bag.

Chia also allegedly failed to pay Ms Than's outstanding salary and bear the cost of repatriating her in November 2012.

Last month, Chia faced 11 charges of abusing her two maids by causing hurt by slapping and punching. She also allegedly using a funnel to force sugar into Ms Than's mouth, and forced the woman to swallow her own vomit.

She is also accused of insulting Ms Than's modesty by instructing her to take off her clothes, then taking photographs of her.

Threatened to kill family

Meanwhile, Tay is accused of threatening their Indonesian maid, Ms Fitriyah, 32 in February 2011.

In August 2012, he allegedly threatened her again saying he would hire someone to kill her family.

Tay allegedly hit Ms Fitriyah nine times, and Ms Than six times with canes, a metal clothing hook and a bamboo stick. He also allegedly told the two maids to slap each other.

On another occasion, he allegedly made Ms Fitriyah stand on a stool as he forced an incense bottle into her mouth. He is also accused of attempting to bribe her by offering a month's salary and a flight home in exchange for not reporting him to the police.

The couple's lawyer told the court that his clients are claiming trial, reported The Straits Times Online. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Aug 11.
