An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
In the 1984 GE, there was a massive 12.9% vote swing against the PAP.
This came hot on the heels of the 1981 Anson upset. Poor Pang I believe never recovering from the Anson Slap and he faded into oblivion after that.
So what caused the 1984 massive swing?
Was it the government's proposal to increase the drawdown age to 60 and then to 65?
Even Dr Toh Chin Chye, the most loyal of the loyal, spoke up in strong terms against that 6 months before the 1984 GE.
