Malaysian Islamic board launches probe on bomoh's antics at KLIA

SHAH ALAM - Trouble is brewing for the bomoh (a witch doctor) who grabs international headlines after his bid to locate the missing Malaysian Airlines jet using coconuts and "magic carpet" at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) is investigating the 80-year-old Ibrahim Mat Zin, who calls himself Raja Bomoh Sedunia, or the king of witch doctors in the whole wide world, reported news agency Bernama.
"Jais has received many complaints from the public, including via the web and Facebook, over his antics.
"We are investigating his action under Section 7 (1) of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment," Jais director Ahmad Zaharin was quoted as saying on Saturday.
He added that the Islamic board will take action against the bomoh if his antics were found to have deviated from Islamic teachings.
Mr Ibrahim Mat Zin and his aides showed up at KLIA last Monday and Wednesday to perform his rites, reportedly at the invitation of a minister.
His antics were widely broadcast by international media, and had sparked a frenzy of social media spoofs.
