Police shoot a man in the head during a high-speed chase

KUALA LUMPUR: Police shot one suspect in the head and arrested two others including a woman after a high speed chase here on the MRR2 near Taman Ampang Hilir.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 26, also rammed into eight cars and two motorcycles during the high speed chase before being arrested by police on Friday.

City police CID acting chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said a team from the Sentul district first spotted the suspects in a housing area in Wangsa Maju at about 8.30pm on Friday.

He said the suspects, who were in a red Satria Neo, looked suspicious.

ACP Khairi said that when police asked the three to leave the car, the driver ignored and sped off, ramming into the policeman’s motorcycle.

"The suspects then sped off into the MRR2 heading towards Ampang," he told reporters at the scene.

ACP Khairi said that the driver rammed into eight cars and two motorcycles during the chase, which forced police to open fire.

He added that after police fired about four shots, the driver stopped beside the road on MRR2 near Taman Ampang Hilir.

"When we checked the vehicle, we found that the driver was shot in the head," he said adding that the suspect, who was in critical condition, was sent to the Ampang Hospital.

The suspect died at 5.40am Saturday.

Police then arrested two others in the car, including a woman.

ACP Khairi added that initial investigations revealed that the car had been reported stolen in Wangsa Maju.

He added that police also seized an air-gun, bullets, two machetes, handcuffs, equipment used for drugs and a handbag that was confirmed to be from a robbery case on Friday afternoon in Wangsa Maju.

ACP Khairi said that case was being investigated under section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and section 411 of the Penal Code for car theft.
