A group of about 150 angry patrons were left stranded outside Rex Cinema after a movie premiere was abruptly cancelled last night. The movie, Veeram, popular among its Tamil fans, was slated for a 9pm screening last night.
Patrons had queued from as early as 9am to buy tickets.
One of them was Indian national Khatik, 26, a construction worker, who had taken leave yesterday and joined the queue. "We are angry that we spent the whole day and didn't get to see the movie. We've been waiting about four months for it," he said.
When The New Paper visited the cinema at about 11pm yesterday, about four police cars and 10 officers were at the scene.
OWNER
The owner of Rex Cinema, who only wanted to be known as Mr Kumar, said there was a hiccup between the cinema and the show's producers.
"We will now try to give our customers refunds or change their tickets for tomorrow's screening," he said. Police said they received a call at about 9pm requesting assistance.
The parties involved were advised accordingly and the company managed to resolve the matter amicably with the affected viewers. No incident was reported and no further police assistance was required
