http://www.tremeritus.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/harbour-front-station.pngA power trip occurred on the Circle Line last night (18 Dec) at about 11.20pm causing train service to be disrupted between Stadium and HarbourFront MRT stations.
Those on board had to get down and exit the tunnel via the emergency walkways at Caldecott and Tai Seng MRT stations.
SMRT said engineers were immediately deployed to fix the problem and restore traction power to the rest of the network.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the power trip was caused by a cable damaged by an LTA contractor during the power cable replacement exercise. SMRT did not say who the contractor was.
Power was restored at 4.00am.
Free bus services and bus bridging services were also activated within 20 minutes between Mountbatten and HarbourFront MRT stations, said SMRT.
However, some commuters had to take a taxi home. An irritated netizen, Katie Poh, wrote on her Facebook page:
I was heading home from circle line towards punggol. Even if smrt provides shuttle service for replacement of circle line train service by the time I reach Serangoon station, I will miss the last train from Serangoon towards punggol. I hope smrt would be liable for the taxi fares that every passengers had to pay for. It was raining and we had to walk our way out towards the main road
