Dear Gilbert

First time posting here just felt like sharing my story with your
readers.

I have recently went for an HR position interview. All the while this
employer who says that he is also a Singaporean kept on badmouthing about
Singaporean workers.

For one whole hour he kept me there, he spoke rubbish to me. Being polite,
I just sit there and listen to all his rubbish comments. First, he says the MOM
should not intervene on how companies post their job advertisement as this will
result in companies being afraid to post job opening publicly as they are afraid
of being fine and this will in turn result in fewer jobs for Singaporeans (I
wonder is it true?).

Next, he arrogantly says that on his hands he had enough S-pass quota to hire
a foreign worker (in my mind I say then go ahead hire a foreign worker why
bother to ask me to come interview – what are you trying to prove is it because
you need to do a show for MOM to see that you cannot get any Singaporeans so
that you can get a foreign worker easily?)

Maybe to get him out of trouble later he say there is no right or wrong
answer and ask me to give my opinion on the matter – of course I spoke up for
our Singaporean workers.

Next he say something really ***** me off – he told me foreign workers have
no choice but to work hard because if not when the first company blacklists
them and when the next employer wants to hire them their work permit will be
rejected.

Secondly, the company can ban them forever to come into Singapore to work.
Because you cannot threaten Singaporeans to be slave for you so you are not
happy? I thought to myself.

He keeps on belittling Singaporeans that we like to leave on time blah blah
unlike those foreign workers happily do overtime with no complaint.

Singaporeans who are demanding for more work balance is not wrong. We
normally work from 9am – 6pm maybe we stay late till 6+ then we have to squeeze
the MRT.

When we reach home its almost 8pm, next we take a bath and have dinner and
sit down to watch TV with family for maybe 1 hour and then we have to sleep as
we have to wake up early to go to work.

Some company even require you to work on Saturday

We end up only having a full Sunday to rest, relax and accompany our family
so employer please don’t say we are demanding too much work life balance.

Jack
