http://www.tremeritus.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/nationalservice1-300x250.jpgIt was

clear that over the years the rumblings by people and similar suggestions put forward very often through the TR Emeritus website seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. Until the ruling party’s failure in the last two elections did they wake up to realize that if they kept ignoring this, this discontent among professional Singaporeans will continue to grow. So they came up with their own “brilliant” idea of the Singapore Conversation and then they heard the same feedback.

It is not rocket science to know that the problem of discrimination against our own Singapore PMET is growing larger and larger that has a direct correlation with the FT policy and the ruling party’s refusal to listen. They have always treated different opinions from theirs as opposition. This is in fact the real problem of the PAP today.

So the “ruling elites” have wasted so much time in the meantime. And now they suddenly “believe” that this is indeed a problem and if they don’t do something, then the likelihood of them losing big time come 2016 is imminent. When other countries like Australia and Hong Kong went ahead much earlier to ensure their own people are protected first and not discriminated against and at the same time promoting the best talents to join their workforce successfully.

Honestly, I see so much hypocrisy in the PAP. While I applaud the courage of Tan Chuan Jin to be willing to stick out his neck to listen and then do something, but I don’t think he alone is able and is enough to save face for the ruling party. I think the damage is done and the trust in the PAP among many professionals in Singapore that I know has long been broken.

I am also beginning to think that if the 6.9 million population resulted in Singaporeans becoming the minority, does it really make sense for our children to serve national service in future. Just to clarify, I was a proud national serviceman before who was willing to serve and defend the people of Singapore because I know the leaders like LKY, GKS, and Rajaratnam then truly believed in building a nation for the good of Singaporeans.

I really have a lot of doubts today because the policies and practices of the current leaders do not seem to point in this direction, unfortunately! You know, someone very clever just made this remark to me when I asked if he watched the F1 last weekend. His candid answer was “I have no interest in watching F1 because the government is not really interested in promoting this sport. Their agenda in holding F1 is for their own interest of putting Singapore as a place to live for rich foreigners”. Where is the consideration for the good of Singaporeans at large in this? Just a lot of inconveniences for ordinary commuters and people depending on doing business in affected areas. A big sigh!
