THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Monday changes to the Certificate of Entitlement or COE system which will see a refinement of the categorisation for Cat A and will take most premium models out of the small car category.
While LTA is retaining the existing criterion that engine capacity should not exceed 1,600 cc, it is adding a second criterion that engine power should not exceed 97 kilowatts or 130 brake horsepower.
This will be applicable to all cars registered using COEs obtained from the first open bidding exercise in Feb 2014.
Had the additional criterion been applied to 2012 vehicle registrations, nearly 50 per cent of Cat A cars would have moved to Cat B, LTA said.
