Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has announced several changes to the Cabinet and other political appointments.

These latest changes, which come slightly over a year after the last reshuffle in July 2012, will see promotions as well as new appointments.

Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing will become a full Minister from September 1, and will continue to helm the ministry.

He will also be appointed Second Defence Minister.

Mr Tan Chuan-Jin will relinquish his appointment as Senior Minister of State for National Development. He remains Acting Minister for Manpower.

Dr Amy Khor will be promoted to Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower.

Mrs Josephine Teo will be promoted to Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport.

Also promoted are Dr Maliki Osman and Ms Sim Ann.

Dr Maliki will be promoted to Minister of State for Defence and National Development.

Ms Sim Ann will be promoted to Minister of State for Education and Communications and Information.

Two new office holders will be appointed, including Mr Desmond Lee, who will be Minister of State for National Development.

The other new office holder is Ms Low Yen Ling, who will be Parliamentary Secretary in the Social and Family Development Ministry.

All the appointments will take effect from September, except for Ms Low, who will assume her new post from October.
