Probably many of us here do not learn Chinese mandarin well in PAP schools which was planned to fail your Chinese miserably. It was probably purposely set up to make you hate Chinese language to turn you into a 'yellow banana society'.
Humiliating to get this type of daft education system from this old braggart 'One Man's view of the world' set up to fail your Chinese miserably. When a government under a dictator did not give free press to his country, and freedom of speech to his people, he will never learn how bad his education system has been doing. No respect to this old braggart, really.
I remembered my Chinese lesson was conducted in such a manner set up to fail your Chinese miserably. There was no proper Chinese grammar, or writing, taught to you at all.
This MOE teacher will start with first student stand up to read one paragraph and followed by next student turn to read the next paragraph and go round the class until the lesson ends. If you don't how to read you are make to stand on the chair. Then quickly it is your turn to read again and you still cannot read you are make to stand outside the classroom until the lesson finishes. The whole lesson was to read the same page over and over again until the lesson end. So simply planned low class teaching program wonder why need President scholars in MOE and go to PAP schools for?
Never mind what they did to us in the past. We can pick this language here and learn together.
If Sam could set up new section so we can do this together at our own time, and can continually refer and refresh them. All you need to learn about 300 commonly used Chinese words enough to read daily Chinese newspapers.
With 2/3 of the world speak and write the same Chinese style grammar then came a new bred of white people, found in 1066, to turn their grammar the other way round. How they managed to fool, and bully, the world speak their style of grammars is much to be amazed of?
I have bought a Chinese grammar book to share with you which is easy to pick up the grammar. Your contributions are also important to learn from you too.
All you need is to know about 300 common Chinese words, and know the style of grammar, you will be doing fine. For example, 三加一是多少 (3+1 is how much) is correct Chinese grammar and is how 2/3 of the world speak, then came the pommy change it to 'how much is 3+1? If you direct convert pommy grammar to Chinese it is not correct Chinese grammar and vice versa.
You have already learn NOT to say 是不 which is no such Chinese grammar, correct grammar is 不是 and 是不是 。
By this time next year we can read and write Chinese, and continually refer back to them to refresh it.
