His father say give up on the problem for next generation of leaders. But if PM Lee also give up means ...game over...Singaporeans will get replaced. Now Singapore is not just having low fertility rate but the LOWEST fertility rate in the world. To be lowest at something means something special and unique about our living conditions and environment. Most developed countries have managed to reverse the tide even japan now has the highest TFR of last 16 years

Remember yrs ago, fertility rate in Singapore was far higher than japan so what cause the sharp plunge ? Now fertility rate in Japan is 16% higher than Singapore and rising yr after yr.

Quote:
Singapore’s experience is no different from that of these countries. Our birth rates have been steadily declining. The fertility rate of the Chinese segment of our population is the lowest, 1.08 (2011), with the rate for Indians 1.09 and for Malays 1.64. In other words, the size of each successive generation of Chinese Singaporeans will halve in the next 18 to 20 years.

The pap until today blame Singaporeans for putting career first before marriage and children to cause this low fertility problem.....basically the pap refuse to recognise the true nature of the problem and put the blame on Singaporeans.

Personally I am not married Why is this so? I have no career to speak of so what is the reason. Basically, I observe my friends having children all have numerous problems. Because of these problems their life is very tough. In Singapore the quality of life is already very poor due to high stress, high cost of living, high indebtedness, overcrowding and job insecurity. Having children for many people means further deterioration in quality of life outweigh the joy of having children. I see most of my friends especially those whose income is average or below average suffering badly once they have children - medical bills pile up, baby sick sometimes need specialist very costly. Even take but push stroller into crowded bus have to fold up bring down...older children need high expenses like tuition, etc. If single lose job not so stress because no one else to support but if have family can be devastating... and now in singapore , hire and fire style of businesses is now common. Many pple once they have to support family with children they have insufficient to retire ...worst are those with old parents to support in addition to children.unless super high pay definitely at some point end up going to loan shark for help....

PM Lee's rally is really very disappointing as he did not introduce any concrete measures to solve this problem. Without a solution here the pap will always lean towards importing more foreigners using low fertility as an excuse This is dangerous because such approaches produce an negative feedback loop that will sink us further ...more foreigners=more stress= more overcrowding= higher cost of living= fewer babies=more foreigners. It is a Singaporean core destructive destructive loop that pap has entered and unless Singapore breaks out of it Singapore will be dominated by foreigners.

I is disappointing that pm Lee avoided this important topic that threatens us and puts us on a path of increasing dominance by foreigners
