Hong Kong celebrity Edison Chen was found selling shoes at a stall in Shanghai with his girlfriend on July 31, reports our Chinese-language newspaper China Times.
Chen shocked the entertainment industry when hundreds of explicit photos of himself and a number of top female Hong Kong entertainers were posted and widely circulated on the internet in 2008. Since then Chen's career as an entertainer has been on the rocks. He has been able to land few contracts for acting in film or TV.
Five or six companies asked even demanded compensation for the negative impact his tarnished image may have caused to the products he endorsed. The payments have sunk Chen in debt. He reportedly owes his former employer nearly US$2 million.
Chen has resorted to selling shoes from a street stall in Shanghai to pay off his debt, according to the media. He was seen selling the merchandise with his girlfriend and hugging her after playing basketball on the street. He was also seen taking public transportation, presumably to save money.
