They know it and in the few weeks we see efforts to reinroduce a climate of fear among citizens to prevent them from exchanging information freely like they do in all other developed countries. Defence minister goes so far as to call online discourse a threat to total defense. It shows the intent of govt to clamp down on the free exchange of information so that govt controlled media such as newspapers and TV dominate and can be used to influence public opinion.
The pap would have been able to push ahead with it 6.9M populatiin plan if not for the Internet, it probably wouldn't have to slow its import of foerigners without the Internet problems associated with with the high influx can be managed by using state controlled media to keep people unaware of the underlying causes. Scandals like AIM, bromptom bikes can be managed away quietly with netizens putting a microscop to examine the issue. Unlike govts of democratic countries the PAP is not about to cope as the free exchange of information undermine its claims of highest integrity. What we are seeing is conflicts arisng in many areas and these are pointed out by netizens. The parachut scheme to bring elites from govt to GLCs such SMRT, sale of sotware to AIM, and all the unhealthy cross linkages between pap govt and business comes to light under the scrutiny of netizens.
