SINGAPORE: The woman at the centre of the case involving the Chua Chu Kang Town Council's management of a fall incident has decided to withdraw and apologise for the negative remarks made about the Town Council and MP Zaqy Mohamad.

Ms Serene Tham had made the remarks in her letter dated July 13 to The Real Singapore (TRS) website.
A joint statement from Chua Chu Kang Town Council and Ms Tham said that she will be writing to the editor of TRS to remove her letter from the post on the TRS website.

In the post, Ms Serene Tham said she fell at Block 293, Chua Chu Kang Avenue 3, two months ago.
Ms Tham had alleged that her fall was due to the poor management of the staircase which resulted in her being injured badly.
Ms Tham is claiming insurance.

The statement revealed that Ms Tham had checked and acknowledged that there was indeed no replacement of railings and admitted her mistakes in stating otherwise in her letter to TRS.

Ms Tham was informed by the loss adjustor that the Town Council General Manager had told the latter that the Town Council will be considering replacing the railings as a future improvement work.

Based on this information, Ms Tham assumed that the railings were replaced.

Ms Tham had tried to contact the loss adjustor but he was not contactable for two weeks as he was overseas.

She then tried to contact the insurer and realised that the insurer's phone number was not correct.

The Town Council acknowledges that there was a typo error and apologises to Ms Tham for the inconvenience caused.

The Town Council said it empathises with her frustration over the claims process.

Mr Zaqy has offered to facilitate and expedite the claim process for Ms Tham so that her claims can be resolved as soon as possible.

On July 16, Mr Zaqy had called on TRS to take down the article if it cannot show proof to back up the article within the next 24 hours.

Mr Zaqy said the article makes serious allegations about him and the integrity of the Town Council General Manager about the replacement of staircase railings.

Mr Zaqy said that the accusations published are false and border on defamation.
