Ladies and Gentleman,
Let me introduce myself, my name is Wee. I now live in Australia and had been settled here for the past 20 years or so.
Singaporeans are living in a one-party state. It is not obvious to them because they have not experienced life outside Singapore in truly democratic countries like Australia or the West.
Singapore is all about one man’s neo liberal idealism and his strong stubborn ideology the last 50 years. Once that man is gone, it will start to tumble free fall downwards simply because the man and his ideology is just temporary. We should be wary of people who are stubborn and insist on their own views as being absolutely correct and beneficial to the country while the rest of the views by others are just noise. Because such a setup is the recipe for an epic collapse. That man and his ideology will bring himself down and the drag rest of the country with him down the pit hole.
In Australia, we have independent bodies and commissions or govt backed NGOs to look into issues regarding society at large. We have a healthy democracy and multi-party system, ready to replace the other if the dominant one fails.
Singaporeans live in a state where one man’s ideology single-handedly and fully dominates and permeates all aspects of society and living. Under such a setup, if a failure were to occur, there would be no recourse. Take a look around u and see who u are surrounded with. You do not live in the European Union. U live in a region rife with corruption and human right abuses. Your Asean neighbours will not help u. They only need Singapore to make money and once it is not viable any more, they will abandon Singapore.
For those who are relatively comfortable in life, it is not permanent in Singapore. The Singapore economy will not last forever because ultimately the one who controls natural resources is KING, for which Singapore has none. Soon the surrounding countries will get their act together and leave Singapore in the dust. Whatever riches u have in Singapore is tagged to the fluctuating value of currency (paper money) and inflation. Singapore money does not have any real value and is not backed by natural resources. It is not even backed by any innovative enterprises u find in some Asian countries like Hong Kong, South Korea or Japan. The lingering question here is, if your riches are backed by something which is non-tangible, how long can it last?
Singapore is a freak temporary success in the developed world. No economist in the developed world wish to endorse as successful. It has a purely corporate setup which will not last long. Just look at what happened to America in 2008 financial crisis? Assets which were backed by non-tangible value crashed the whole country. America can pull itself out, but what about Singapore?
I hope Singaporeans realise the grave seriousness of the situation and cannot afford to be selfish anymore. They will need to work together or risk being dragged down the pithole by a single man’s ideology. One has to look no further than the arab world – Sadaam Hussein’s Iraq, Gadaffi’s Libya, etc.
Urgent action is needed by 2016, else the consequences will be disastrous.
