Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception has been available for more than 25 years and could prevent 1.7 million unintended pregnancies and 800,000 abortions each year in the U.S. It is a safe and effective method of contraception, and women who have used it report high levels of satisfaction.

Emergency Contraception Is Not Just a "Morning-After Pill"
Emergency contraception, also called postcoital contraception, can prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. Emergency contraception is provided in two ways: using hormonal contraceptive pills or inserting a copper-releasing IUD (intrauterine device).
Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) contain hormones that reduce the risk of pregnancy when started within 120 hours (five days) of unprotected intercourse. Emergency Contraception Is Not Abortion
Emergency contraception cannot end a pregnancy. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), "Emergency contraceptive pills are not effective if the woman is pregnant; they act by delaying or inhibiting ovulation, and/or altering tubal transport of sperm and/or ova (thereby inhibiting fertilization), and/or altering the endometrium (thereby inhibiting implantation)" (FDA, 1997). Progestin-Only ECPs Greatly Reduce Side Effects
Combination hormone ECPs induce nausea in 30-50 percent of women, and vomiting in 15-25 percent of women. Anti-nausea or anti-emetic medications taken one hour before ingesting ECPs may reduce these side effects. Breast tenderness, fatigue, irregular bleeding, abdominal pain, headaches, and dizziness may also occur. 1 pack of 3 patches cost like $40.00. You used 1 patch per week, for 3 consecutive weeks (ie if you used the patch on the Sunday..then you need to used another patch on the next Sunday). There should'nt be any lapse at all for these 3 weeks. The 4th weeks is "free" week (no need to use at all). The New cycle would have to start on the 5th week.
It is best to start the cycle (1st time use of the patch) rite after menstruation.
It is also advisable to paste the patch on difference side(right on the 1st week and left on the 2nd week and so on) each week , to allow your skin to breathe better and prevent rashes.
If there is a lapse of 1 day or more , in between the "free" week and the begginning of the new cycle, it is advisable to consult your gyne and pills will be given to you to prevent pregnancy .
Once you are on patch , you can bonk anytime . That 's why the start of the cycle is best rite after menstruation.
This is what I gathered from my wife gyne... Nevertheless, it is best that you consult yr family GP or gyne first.
