Home Team NS (HTNS) Pasir Ris chalets on standby from 1pm, June 17 as quarantine housing for SARS-like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases

SINGAPORE — Authorities said today (June 10) that Home Team NS (HTNS) Pasir Ris chalets will be put on standby as quarantine housing for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases from June 17, 1pm onwards.

The Ministries for Health and National Development noted in a joint statement that the World Health Organisation, as of June 7, has reported a total of 55 confirmed cases of MERS-CoV worldwide since the disease was first reported in September 2012.

They also noted that there were no cases of MERS-CoV in Singapore and that the risk of an outbreak in the country remains low.

The government however has decided to step up its operational readiness in the event of an imported case given today’s globalised travel patterns, said the statement.

The ministries said HTNS members who have made prior bookings at the chalets may continue with their holiday plans or opt to cancel their bookings.

Those who choose to keep their bookings may use the chalets until the time comes for the site to be activated as a quarantine facility, they added.
