massage treatment for chronic prostate infection

[Chronic prostate infection can be said as the most common urological disease. Many patients because of anatomical structures and physiological characteristics of the prostate, require longer duration find it tough and eventually lose confidence during treatment. Therefore, a massage therapy is recommended to speed up the patient recovery and cure this disease. massage is effective and easy to grasp by any patient.

1. After bowel, clean the anus and lower inner part of rectum before doing massage therapy. Patients can lie down on their chest with the knee bend inward or sideway position. Acupuncture treatment for premature ejaculation

Look at acupuncture points at Zhongwan, air sea, Guan Yuan, in a very, Tianshu, Zusanli, Sanyinjiao, springs and applied point pressing, point rubbing, roll and rubbing, point stroking and etc techniques. 1 course treatment is considered 1 month. Each week 5 times and each time lasted 30 to 40 minutes.

Premature ejaculation is basically too low threshold for sperm ejaculation. The threshold refer to the limitation of the intense stimulation line like a door step. If the door step is too low, one can cross over very easily. Hence, to treat premature ejaculation, we need to increase the threshold point by achieving very strong stimulation before ejaculation occurs. Some people can be cured with the above methods while the more serious one require to conduct behaviour therapy.

Massage Therapy Impotence •   

• Massage therapy is a major feature in traditional Chinese medicine. It can help to clear the meridians, supplement kidney and increase yang. It is thru specific parts of the massage, it can achieve the purpose of treating impotence. The method is simple to learn. Patients or their spouse can do it themselves as below:

This is a method for gaining girth, particularly around the head.

You get a partial erection, grab your penis with the OK grip a couple of inches behind the head, and trap blood between where your fingers are holding and the head of your penis. Then you pull toward the head, forcing the blood toward the head, engorging the area to the max.

Start 80%/90% erection.

Perform a strong kegel to get a full engorgement, then once kegel is completed grip the penis at the base with a ring-grip then slide slowly towards your penis head (moving every drop of blood! important!!).

Once reached about 1/4 inch below the head, while still maintaining a strong grip perform a strong kegel.

Use your other hand to grip at the base while still maintaining a strong grip near the head trapping blood between the head and pubic bone and then.. and only then should you release your head-grip hand.

Repeat this 7 - 10 times then stop and slap your penis on your thighs to regain circulation, then repeat the whole thing.
It is best to perform this exercise for at least 10 mins to see gains develop which occur quite quickly with this ex. but it is best to start at 5 mins and slowly build up.

You should lubricate your hands and your penis and obtain a semi-erection.

Make an "OK" sign/circle with your thumb and your index finger and grip tightly around the base of your penis.

Using your thumb and index finger as describe above, start milking from the base of the penis to the head. As you do so, you will notice the head of the penis expanding with blood.

Once you reach the penis head, form a similar "OK" sign with the other hand and grip around the base of the penis as you did before.

Alternatively milk your penis with both hands, squeezing upon every part of your penis, except its very top part.
This is also called milking because of the way you milk blood into your penis.

With your penis in a semi-erect state, grasp the base of your penis using the first two fingers and thumb of one hand. Use the second hand to cup your testes (for protection).

Shake your penis up and down, making sure to slap your penis against your belly/pubis for each shake. Each slap equals one repetition.

You should start with 200-300 repetitions, and work up to 2000-3000, 3 time a week. This is not as daunting as it sounds, considering that you can perform 2-3 repetitions per second.

Follow these easy steps to achieve ejaculatory development:

Sit in a comfortable chair and relax. Begin to flex and relax your penis muscle as tight as you can for a good solid count of 50. At the end of the 50th flex, hold the flex as tight as you can for a 30 count. Repeat this 3 times then rest for 2-3 minutes. Next, achieve and erection by slowly massaging your penis with a little bit of baby oil.

Once a fairly hard erection is achieved, begin to flex and hold your penis muscle at 2 seconds intervals while you continue to massage your penis. Now begin to massage yourself to almost a near climax, but right before you are about to ejaculate flex your penis and tight as you can and take in a deep breath through your mouth, and visualize your semen withdrawing back into your body.

Repeat this as many times as you can until your penis cannot successfully hold back all your semen. Do not fully ejaculate.

Rest for 2 minutes and really focus on the tingly sensation coming from your penis. It should be very tired and extremely worked after this workout, but it's not over yet. Focus on your penis muscle gaining power with every breath you take. Breathe in deeply and visualize.

Now the last part of the workout is here, the concentration clamps. You're going for a set of 50 without stopping.

Do not stop until you have finished the 50 clamps, for you will appreciate the workout when you are finished. Before you start the last part of this exercise, there's one catch. These clamps aren't the same old flex and relax clamps, these are different. Each time to flex your penis,hold is tight as you can for 5 seconds, then slowly release taking another 2 seconds. Each flex and relax should take 7 seconds in all. Remember you are going for a set of 50.

Let say you have a cut on a finger, the effect of painkiller will take a while to curb the pain, things will be different if you try reflexology. You can minimise the pain right away by rubbing the corresponding ECWIO areas of the finger on your toes. It takes effect faster than taking painkillers. I have summerise a few simple methods below which you can make good use of them to stay healthy and strong:

Press, rub, push, scrape are the basic massaging method in one unit. It is because the ECWIO areas are not as small as points and wide as collateral connections, it is simple a small segments on our bodies.
For example, the ECWIO area of uterus is a bear-shaped region on our inner ankle. However, there are exceptions, such as the ECWIO area of brain stem is just a dot on the inner toes. It is as effective as using our fingers and is able to apply greater force and more precise. I have discovered that using stones, particularly stone needles as tools are very effective as well.
There are treatments involved stone needles. I was impressed once in last years meeting held by the organisation of stone needles. There was a eightytwo years old elder, she has no presbyopia. She could even see very small words in a magazine.
Through a conversation with her, I got to know that she had had presbyopia. She used stone needle to scrape the areas around her eyes ten times every day without fail. Her eyes became brighter and in the end her presbyopia was treated by this way.
The effect of stone needles in treating chronic diseases has been recognised by people slowly this days. Many people are wearing stone needle as accessories, such as necklaces or bracelets. I have incorperated stone needles in reflexology to strengthen the effect of this therapy.
To use stone needle to scrape the areas around your eyes can improve the function of the eyes and you can get rid presbyopia too.
When we are massaging a certain area it is always important to know that we should massage in one direction only. Such as a child has constipation, we should rub the outer area of his index finger from the root to its tip. In another case, if a person is having loose bowels, we do almost the same thing as above but rub in another direction from the tip to the root of the index finger for 300 times.
If we rub in both directions or do not care about the directions, it will offset the effect of the treatment. Hence we should alway remember to rub in a single direction to see the effect. The method works in the same way as sweeping, it only works if we do it in a systematic way and in a fixed direction. By doing so, we can purge the toxic out of our bodies.
We can recite numbers to treat illnesses. This method is found by teacher Li Yushan from Shandong. In 2008, I have participated the training of number therapy and incorperated it into ECWIO reflexology. The combination of both works very well.
In a nut shel, number therapy is just reciting numbers.
One of my students, her husband was paralysed by a stroke. He suffered constipation and his stool was too hard that broke his anus. He therefore could not sleep well. I gave her a prescription with regards to her husband's conditon. To recite the numbers, 80,160,40 with a short break at every comma silently. While recite these numbers in mind, her husband has to link the numbers with the represented organs in mind to achieve resonance of the organs. In her case, her husban could not talk, and I told her to hold her husband hands and recite these words by herself.

The student of mine recited those numbers for more than an hour, both of them fell asleep. Her husband could finally pass motion in the next' morning. Since then, She recite those numbers everyday to her husband for two weeks, her husband was not constipated anymore.
We can use the language that we are most comfortable with to recite the number. If you are a Hokkien dialect speaker then you recite the number in Hokkien. If you speak Cantonese, then you recite them in Cantonese.
Based on teacher Li Shanyu's research, the number 1 corresponds to large intestine. 2 corresponds to lungs. 3 corrsponds to heart. 4 corresponds to liver. 5 corresponds to gall. 6 corresponds to kidney, 7 corresponds to stomach, 8 corresponds to spleen, and lastly, 0 corresponds to re-enforcement.
12345678 correspond to qian, dui, li, zhen, xun, kan, gen, kun of the eight diagrams. The number 12345678 are also represent the five elments which are metal, wood, water fire and earth each influece to the organs ( intestines, lungs, heart, liver, gall, kidney, stomach, spleen) respectively. When I treat patient with reflexology, I will prescribe these numbers for them to recite at home. The method will help to achieve harmony of the five elements among organs.
I usually asked my patients to do simple reflexology on their own at home as conditioning prescriptions. But, there are some people who are too busy with work or too ill too do it themselves. As a solution, I will ask them to recite a set of numbers instead which is a very easy treatment.
Mr Wang yi is the founder of He luo five elements and massage treatment. I was accepted as a disciple in 2001 by Mr Wang Yi, and in 2005 I was authorised by him as a practioner of He luo five elements and massage treatment. From then onward, I have incoperated He luo massage into reflexology, and form a unique treatment method. What is He luo five elements ans massage treatment? It is a way to achieve harmony based on the complementray relationship of the five elements.
For example, people who use mouse excessively in their daily lives usually get sore wrists. Hence, we first find the most painful point, and rub around the point to restore harmony of the five elements in the area and then we press at the most painful point to get rid of sore focus.
This is He luo's five elements and massage treatment for all kind of aches. Method description: 1, locate the core aching point, and extend to the region of 2-3 cm away from the focus, then select four points around the region. 2, press the four selected points in an orderly manner, massage in clockwise direction for 9 times with thumb, and 6 times in anticlockwise direction. 3, massage and press the core aching poing 36 times in clockwise direction and 24 times in anticlockwise direction.
The method can be used to treat all kind of aches.
The methods introduced above are natural and follow the theory of the eight diagrams, We can use ECIWO reflexology with above methods to treat body ailments on our own. As ECIWO areas are natural occurings, we can improve and hence restore harmony and balance among organs through the methods.

There will be small lumps on some people's heart ECWIO area on their feet if they suffer heart diseases, this is called organic lesion. For people who are above 50 years old and having small lumps on their heart ECWIO area on feet, that is called functional leison which is due to degeneration and aging. If the heart ECWIO area is extended further up to a person's toes, and the area is larger than normal, and containing lumps and bands, then it is a more severe condition. We can massage the heart ECWIO area and check if there are lumps, bubbles or bands to determine the degree of deterioration of the organ, heart. This is done in a successive progression.
Altough heart diseases are chronic, they can be big problems once in full blown. People who suffer heart disease can have very sudden heart attacks and angina pectoris, etc.
I have a student, he works in the service industry and is a massage therapist. One day, he received a customer, he found out the customer's assistant was laying on a bed in pain. He asked if the assistant had any discomfort. The customer told him that his assistant always suffered chest pain and had three operations before. my student told the customer that he learnt particular methods of treating heart diseases from me and suggested to help the assistant. He used He Luo five elements therapy, firstly he located the area of two finger width away from danzhong point and pressed four points around the area. He rubbed and pressed each points 9 times in clockwise direction and 6 times in anti-clockwise direction respectively. He then applied force and rubbed danzhong point 36 times in clockwise and 24 times in anti-clockwise directions. The treatment was to achieve balance and harmony in the body system.
In just a few minutes, the assistant had an instant relief.
After half a month, the customer returned and request my student to be his personal massage therpist and work for him. He offered sixty thousands annual salary and a car and an partment. If you have a more severe heart condition and rest at home, you can rub and press the points more frequently and in more no. of times. Let say if you rub the four points surrounded the danzhong point in 36 times clockwise and 24 times anti-clockwise, you can rub 90 times clockwise and 60 anti-clockwise at danzhong point.
I have another student, he has frequent atrial fibrilations and irregular heart rates. He often experience discomfort in his sleep or when his angry. I gave him some treatments in 1984 using above He Luo five elements therapy. He felt instantly better after the first treatment. I gave his another treatment in another week. He once told me that he had never feel so light and easy, before my treatments he often felt pressure and heaviness in his chest. He migrated to another country later, and I received a call from him just a year ago, he told me he did have anymore discomfort in his chest after receiving two treatments from me.

You count the no. of times while doing the massage. You will feel calm and a lessen of discomfort. Be consistent and practise daily for better results and greater relief.
Then continue to massage the ECWIO area on the toe of your left foot, rub for 10 minutes. I recommend people do the massage with their thumb and push and rub from the root to the tip of the toe in single direction.
With above mentioned methods, point to take note of is that to have a hearty heart one should remain stress-free and avoid being angry or having strong emotions. One will have a heathier body if he keep good moods all the time.
Following methods are targeted at diabetic conditions. There are three signs of diabetes: The ECWIO areas of stomach and spleen on your feet are hard and swollen. You experience pain at shin bone of the lower legs and surrounding areas.
Method one:
step 1, press the ECWIO areas of pituitary gland, thyroid gland and pancreas.
step 2, divide the area from the line of your wrist to the bottom line of your middle finger in sixteen segments. number each segment such as, the line of your wrist is 1, then 2,3,4,...all the way to 16, the bottom line of your middle finger. Western medicine describes diabetes as three high and one low. High appetite for food and water, high frequency of urination and low in body mass. Traditional Chinese medicin describes it as a wasting-thirst syndrome or triple diabetes.The ECWIO area on the lower legs can be divided into three regions, each corresponds to a different type of diabetes. They are named as upper wasting-thirst, middle wasting thirst and lower wasting-thirst regions. Upper wasting-thirst is related to lungs, and caused by heat. Patients suffer upper wasting-thirst drinks lots of water and have a drop in appetite. Their urine is clear and stool is normal. Middle wasting-thirst is related to stomach, patients also drink lots of water, and have a coloured urination and a big appetite, they feel hungery easily. Lower wasting-thirst is related to kidneys, patients drink lots of water and have cloudy urination.

To treat the above mentioned symptoms, patients have to have controlled diet, and a suitable amount of exercise. I will also provide another three methods on top of these.

Foot massage to lower blood sugar level.

My brother-in-law suffers diabetes, his blood sugar level can sometimes hit to 18.6. My sister is a doctor, and prescribes many different drugs, however the effect is very minimal. I gave her husband one reflexology treatment and lowered his blood sugar level effectively. The result is very visable.

In the treatment, I applied my four-in-one-unit basic massaging technique, but mainly press. The focus of the treatment is on the ECWIO area on his feet. The most important ECWIO area in digestive system is the pituitary gland. It acts as the command of the major nine systems in human body. Moverover, I also aimed to restore balance in the thyriod gland and pancreas, etc.

All in all, my aim was to restore balance in the digestive and endocrine systems. You can see an improvement if you do the above mentioned steps daily.

The ECWIO area of pituitary gland plays an important part in maintaining healthy body.

There are five points to lower blood sugar level on our hands. A few years ago, there was a stock analyst who suffered diabetes. He has to eat late supper everyday and drink two times of water. I told him a method, and ask him to practise it at home. He followed my instructions closely for two months. He does have to get up to eat and drink anymore.

The method details are as follow:

1.Get an imaginary vertical line from the line of your wrist to the bottom line of your middle finger.

2.Then divide the area from the line of your wrist to the bottom line of your middle finger in sixteen segments. number each segment such as, the line of your wrist is 1, then 2,3,4,...all the way to 16, the bottom line of your middle finger. Select the following five points,they are no. 1,2,3,12,16.

3. light up a thick joss stick or cigarette, and place it near to the selected points until you feel the warmth. (avoid burning your hands) and take the joss stick or cigarette further away and repeat above action for 7 times at each point. Repeat the whole step 35 times for points on both of your hands. You should perform the above method yourself to avoid burning your hands and also you can feel the strength of warmth.

We can incoperate the above mentioned method to He Luo five elements therapy. To press and rub each of the five selected points 9 times in clockwise direction and 6 times in anti-clockwise direction.

Once you finish doing for both of your hands, then repeat doing this for nine times which can enhance the effect.
We can lower blood sugar level by rubbing and pressing particular points on our hands and applying acupuncture.

We can make persimmon leaf drink and take it to improve the function of stomach and spleen. It can also smooth our thoat. Persimmon leaf drink is also effective in treating diabetes.

You can use dried persimmon leaf and drink it like any tea products. If you choose to use fresh persimmon leaves, you can stir fried it as a dish or dried it and drink as tea. It has a good effect in controlling the level of blood sugar after meal. People who has no diabetes are not recommended to drink to much as it has a cooling effect and diabetic patients can drink it daily. Many of my patients have tried it and achieved good results.

Beside this, there is another more effective method, it is the number therapy I have introduced previously. I suggest diabetic patient to recite 40.030.820.60 silently for 15 minutes daily.

So, there is no need to be anxious and fearful about your diabetic condition. Also, do not feel reluctant to practise natural therapy. You can monitor your blood sugar level effectively if you practise above mentioned methods religiously.

The symptoms of urinary system are frequent and urgent micturition couples with burning sensations or pain. We can treat these symyptoms using reflexology. 3. Pour hot water in a basin and sit on top of it to steam the urethra area for 20 minutes.
4. Boil a whole corn in water (include everypart of the corn) and drink the soup.
5. Recite 2000.30 silently for 15 minutes daily.

Urinary disease can be a sore topic and too embrassed to mention, you can eliminate such bother by flexology. Many years ago an old friend of mine visited my house. She used the toilet every fifteen minutes. She told me that she had have such symptom for two days and her condition was getting worse. She also told me that she had a burning sensation with urination and had difficulties with urination too. She was too embrassed by her condition and used toilet really frequent. Clearly, I could tell she has inflammation at the urinary bladder.
I asked her to lay down on a bed while I used my thumbs to push and press her urniary ECWIO areas on her feet. She could not stand the pain at the beginning and shoutting to quit. But just after a while, she got used to my massaging strength and I further increased my massaging pressure. I told her to keep drinking water in the process, because 70% of blood is aquouse substance and the massage would increase her blood circulation.
I did a 20 minutes massage at the ECWIO areas on her feet to improve her condition of urgency of urination.
To relief urgency of urination, you can massage and stimulate the ureter, urinary bladder and uretharal canal ECWIO areas on feet for ten times. And also, recite the number 2000.30 in silence simultaneously. The use of number therapy is very effective in treating inflammations of urinary bladder. I asked her to drink another 300 ml of water right after the massage. She approximatly drank about 900 ml of water but she did not have any urgent urination .
She urinated two hours after the massage and she did not suffer the burning sensation anymore and with greater ease to urinate.
She told me that reflexology really improved her condition and she felt an instant relief right after the treatment. She was not bothered by urgent urination anymore. She also started a healthcare center with the support of her children and grand children.
There is another example with hot water basin steaming. I received a female patient who had a painful bladder. She also had urgent urination and had have to rush for toilet. Heart Disease: Too much sex weakens your heart. It's true. This is a concept not generally understood in Western Medicine. In Eastern Medicine, this is very ordinary knowledge and has been written about in Chinese medicine for thousands of years.

hi all,

i'm new to posting so hope you will bear with me.

i'm 47 and sometimes have problems with didi. also have diabetes, high cholesterol, and stents in my arteries. so am taking quite a bit of medicine which doesnt help the libido at all. once a week sex is sometimes a chore.

There are a few symptoms of neck problems, such as neck pain, stiff neck.

To ease neck discomfort:

step 1, Scraping the neck area using Gua Sha techniques. Scrape to get sunstrokes in red or purple dots. Scrape again when sunstrokes disappear and stop when sunstrokes turns to a normal redness.

step 2, Hang your toes vertically and above your chest level when laying flat for 15 minutes daily using thick shoe laces.

I once performed a neck scraping on a hostess while shooting a TV programme. I scraped her neck only for a few strokes gentlely and there was a massive redness appeared on her neck. It showed that her neck problems was severe.

We should scrape our necks if we have discomforts regrad our necks, because neck problems usually give us little problems in the early stage. However small problems can develop into severe neck conditions if we overlook them. We can practise neck exercise and Gua Sha to prevent neck problems.

We expose our necks all the time and it is very easy for necks to catch cold. We can increase blood circulation and remove coldness and blockage by scraping the neck area.

I will recommend a scraping tool and Gua Sha method if you experience stiff and cracking neck. You can scrape the neck area or ask someone to scrape for you.

You can stop scraping once you observe red or purple dots of sunstrokes appeared at the neck area. You scrape the area once again when the previous sunstrokes lightened. You will observe a change of colouration of the sunstrokes from purple to red or you start to feel a sensation of pain while doing neck scraping. This shows that scraping is taking its effects and you condition is improved. So, you can stop applying the Gua Sha method.

The method of hanging your toes using thick shoelaces is better than doing traction. If your neck problems are not too severe or you find the scraping method is troublesome, then you can practise this shoe lace method and massage the neck ECWIO areas on both sides of your toes. You should press on even if you feel an aching sensation.

The shoe lace method acts as a constant stimulus to the ECWIO areas on the sides of your toes. You can hang your toes on the bed frame for fifteen minutes using thick shoe laces. You can do this exercise while watching TV or reading. A simple action like this can ease your neck discomfort in no time.

There is another even simpler method to treat neck problems, the number therapy. I suggest you to recite the number 2650.380 silently on a daily basis. You can write this number on a paper slip and paste it around noticable areas such as above TV screen or on the fridge to remind youself of reciting them.

Children also may have neck problems, I have received a young patient. He was nine years old when he came to me and suffered neck problems. The root cause of his problems was because of heavy desktop tasks and of carrying heavy school bags.

Wow i just had a very enriching session with Dr Irene online. She willingly taught me how to do zhua gen on my own!

The series of exercises which she taught me really worked my didi out! Throughout the self massage, i felt really high almost to the extent of wanting to masturbate. But Dr Irene said cannot! Why? 1.Use your thumbs to push and press the ECWIO area of urinary system for 20 minutes in a single direction.Drink plenty of water While doing the massage.

I asked her to lay down on a bed while I used my thumbs to push and press her urniary ECWIO areas on her feet. She could not stand the pain at the beginning and shoutting to quit. But just after a while, she got used to my massaging strength and I further increased my massaging pressure. I told her to keep drinking water in the process, because 70% of blood is aquouse substance and the massage would increase her blood circulation.
I did a 20 minutes massage at the ECWIO areas on her feet to improve her condition of urgency of urination.
To relief urgency of urination, you can massage and stimulate the ureter, urinary bladder and uretharal canal ECWIO areas on feet for ten times. And also, recite the number 2000.30 in silence simultaneously. The use of number therapy is very effective in treating inflammations of urinary bladder. I asked her to drink another 300 ml of water right after the massage. She approximatly drank about 900 ml of water but she did not have any urgent urination .
She urinated two hours after the massage and she did not suffer the burning sensation anymore and with greater ease to urinate.
She told me that reflexology really improved her condition and she felt an instant relief right after the treatment. She was not bothered by urgent urination anymore. She also started a healthcare center with the support of her children and grand children.
There is another example with hot water basin steaming. I received a female patient who had a painful bladder. She also had urgent urination and had have to rush for toilet. I asked her mother to buy a small basin. The female urethra is often shorter and wider, it is effective to use steaming method. Once her mother was back with a basin, I poured hot water into it and told my patient to sit on it.
The patient did not get use to it in the beginning and complaining of discomfort. I told her to persist and she steamed for 20 minutes. After the treatment, she had a greater ease with urination.
Traditional medicine believes that urgent urination is due to accumulated damp heat in the lower part of human body, mainly in kidneys and bladder. Bladder is blocked by damp heat and patients usualy developed difficulties with urination. The symptom also couples with burning sensation of urination. In this case, the focus is at the bladder and without proper treatment, it will cause great damage to the organ.
Usually, patients who suffer bladder problems are mainly married women and elder men, especially those with prostatitis.
The boiled corn soup is a natural alternative of diuretic. Practising reflexology on the related ECWIO areas and using steaming method plus drinking boiled corn soup are effective ways to relief urinary conditions.

Another treatment of insomnia is aimed to release stress and the pressure of our brain. We can apply a forehead massage to release stress and be relaxed.

If you think you have a prostate infection, the first thing you need to do is go to your Urologist and get a check up. Find out if you actually do have an infection.

Did you know that 7 out of 8 times prostate pain and prostatitis is what doctors call non-specific prostatitis?

That means they don't know what your problem is.

That means they run some tests to see if you have a prostate infection (It is most commonly done by measuring the white blood cell count in your urine and semen). 7 out of 8 times no prostate infection shows up so they don't know why you are in pain. And they will tell you that.

The pain could be coming from a toxic overload in your prostate gland. This can cause serious inflamation.

Or, you may have a prostate infection that is hidden. Trapped in the acini (small sack like structures in the prostate). Because the bacteria are trapped in these sac, they do not "shed" (come out into the seminal fluid or urine). So, the bacteria and white cells do not show up in medical tests.

Exercise Helps Men Avoid Impotence


NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Showing that what's good for your heart is good for your sex life, researchers have found that regular, moderate exercise may prevent impotence.

In a large, long-term study, researchers found that men who burned at least 200 calories a day through exercise were less likely than inactive men to become impotent. This amounts to simply ``exercising off a soda'' every day, said Dr. Irwin Goldstein, from Boston University School of Medicine. Men can do that with a brisk, 2-mile walk, he told Reuters Health in an interview.

Over about 9 years, Goldstein and his colleagues followed nearly 600 men who initially had no problems with impotence. The researchers focused on lifestyle factors believed to contribute to impotence--smoking, heavy drinking, inactivity, and obesity. They found that men who had been active to begin with and those who took up exercise during the study were at lower risk for impotence.

Goldstein said the findings, published in the August issue of Urology, could have a ``huge'' impact. He believes one of the most important implications of this study is that men could reduce their risk for the condition even if they became active during middle age. The same was not true for those who waited until mid-life to quit smoking, lose weight or cut back on drinking.

``How much more do you need to make you get to the gym?'' Goldstein said.

Exercise appears to ward off impotence for the same reasons it can prevent heart attacks, according to Goldstein. Both conditions involve poor blood flow to the organ, and exercise helps keep blood vessels clear. In fact, impotence can be an early warning sign of heart artery disease since the penis is more sensitive to slow-downs in blood flow than the heart is, Goldstein noted.

Impotence affects about one quarter of American men by the age of 65, and there is no cure. It can be treated-most notably with Viagra--but preventing it in the first place should be the goal, Goldstein said.

``A Viagra pill is consumed every three seconds,'' he said. But, he added, ``if men exercise they'll have a lower chance of ever (becoming impotent.)''

Goldstein offered one caution, however: Avoid biking, since it may increase impotence risk.


Men Should Walk for Sexual Health

A brisk 2 mile walk each day can reduce men's risk of impotence according to Dr. Irwin Goldstein, from Boston University School of Medicine in a study published in the August, 2000 issue of Urology.
