What you can do now is take tuktuk to patong to enjoy. Dun ride bike on a raining day on in the night for long distance.

My friend, i only can say this time round take it as a lesson learn. there is nothing much to enjoy at where you are stay.. maybe some massage as for nitelife mostly are at bangla. so plan you next trip and stay at patong. Do more research before you arrive. Lots of info here for you to find. :)

Bangkok will be a better choice. Lower cost in most things. More shopping centers and area. Phuket is more about beach and island hopping. Cost of living more expensive than Bangkok. Not much place for shopping too.

Errrr....if you cain't find what you want in Phuket, perhaps you're not looking hard enough!
Either that or your taste is just too particular! LOL!

Don't just stick to Patong, rent yourself a car, go explore the island, lots of little bars and massage parlours all over the place, plus if you're hunting up tourists, then go to the Surin bay area, Kat, the Laguna resorts, the various shopping malls, and sooooo many other tourist spots.

One advise that I can give about Songkran is for you to definitely hire a car during that period. The festival, although mostly quite good fun, can sometimes get too rowdy for us visitors who are sometimes targeted for some of their merriment - and thus I'd much prefer to be part of it all from the relative safety and comfort of my own car.

And for sure it will save you a lot of frustration and even $$ as then you'd not have to deal with the notorious taxi/tuk-tuk mafia there. Terrible state of affairs which is really a blight on this wonderful island. You can/should reserve your car for pick-up at the airport for the duration of your stay - quite cheap for approx THB 1,000/day all inclusive.

I usually rent my Honda Jazz for THB 1k/day (higher at high season etc) from David Car rent by prebooking by phone to David at 66-81-979-1361 or 66-81-895-9477 followed by an e-mail [email protected]. His website is http://www.davidcarrent.com/ and you can also use the booking form on the website - but make sure you get confirmation back. The David car rent guy should then be just outside the airport exit to greet you with a sign board with your name, and have your car ready to drive away.

The "Phuket experience" is IMHO, a lot different/much better when one have a car to go around this fascinating little island (make sure you pick up all the brochures/maps at the airport when you're waiting for your luggage). For one thing, you wouldn't then be limited to just screwing around Patong - which to me is actually the cesspool of Phuket - and would be able to go to the other less drunken monger infested areas.

Just a suggestion - and no, I don't have any ties to David Car rent if you're wondering - just that I happen to use this company the past 15 years each time I go down there and have had pretty good experience with them.

had a short trip to phuket on sunday and was back yesterday!
made some interesting observations whilst i was there.
the russians are coming in a big way. the signs at the airport, some are in russian. koreans, chinese and indians are also coming in the droves.
took the afternoon mi flight there hoping to miss the morning and evening crush and boy was i wrong. the plane had no bay to park, wasted precious time.
spotted a new "restaurant" on the corner of Kra road and Phuket road. in the evenings there are lots of students, fls and other types waiting for drinks and the book out for the night. the name is in thai but literal translation is Ratee.
its near the robinsons in downtown phuket.
went to another joint albit a little early, was Nanang, its in a back lane off phangna road opposite the main bus station. here they serve snacks and drinks alfresco and have live music. the girls come in a little later at about 2300hrs and they will sit at your table and hit you for drinks. this place is a little classier but a little hard to find.
did'nt have time to go patong but heard there are now 5 russian only bars in patong, so if you like a dip in a european try the rusky bars!

Lots of SYT at the new tiger beer bar. Hollywood still the same with lots of ang mo.

Guys with Wechat and Momo you will be able to get FL trying to hook you. But bad quite pretty and good services.

I just came back from Phuket, having spent my few days there on Kamala and Patong beach. It's european season, and the whole place is just full of shermans, norwageans, danish, austrians, and just about any homo sapien that's at least 6ft tall, blonde and with blue eyes.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had ever encountered "unclean" stuff in Patong? I stayed at the Avantika hotel - a brand new boutique hotel at one end of Patong beach. The strange thing is, I woke up the first night when my bed "jerked" all of a sudden.

Having previously lived in regions prone to earthquakes, I had thought that it was a quake (and it did felt like one!! not your usual kick-the-mattress type of shaking). After I convince myself that it's not a quake and I did not have to run for my life, I considered the possibility of supernatural... yikes!

Anyway, after peering around my room, couldn't find a damn thing, went back to sleep and the rest of the night was peaceful.

The next night, I placed a bottled water by the bedside table. At around the same time, the same "jerk" happened again (WTF...). This time, the bed pushed against the table, and the bottled water fell to the floor.

What did I do? Act blur, put the bottle back up on the table, go back to sleep! :p

And another reminder - don't let the gaiety/party atmosphere fool you into ALSO acting with abandon and disregard for the dangers that ARE present in such settings. The Koreans were there about 10yrs ago. They kinda vacated phuket and now coming back again.

You dont really have to work hard to pick the girls, you just have to let them know you ARENT THAI. Then they will flood towards you but of course stop imagining that u r the royal prince. To me, Phuket is much more than that and the mongering scene is only a tiny fraction of the whole gamut of attractions/delights there. Patong is great, yes, but it is actually the worst area of Phuket as far as it being dirty, gaudy and rather unsafe.

I prefer to only make the occasional visit to Patong whilst in Phuket - mainly to "re-stock" my supply of companionship, but then spend more time enjoying the many more delights of this wonderful island; swimming, snorkeling, golfing, dining and even shopping at the various malls, shops and of course at "SuperCheap!" Limiting my visits to Patong gives me more time to do other enjoyable pursuits with my companion for the visit cause if all I wanted to do is bonk, there are a lot of other places which is way cheaper, with better quality/quantity and easier/more convenient to get to.

Like I said, just my very humble opinion which I thought worthwhile to express, to give bros here some food for thought. Please just ignore if you don't agree/subscribe to. THANKS!

The overall inflation on accomodation, transporation (Land), food, daily necessities and entertainment have been very minimal even compared to 3 years ago.

Just came back from a wonderful stay in phuket.

Visited Bangla road for two consecutive nights.

As it was my first trip to phuket, the first night was mainly a look look and see see session for me. well Krabi is more of a quiet town and for relaxing, in terms of entertainment, mostly is usually in the day (if u know what i mean)

what u want is all available in bangkok and phuket, in terms of price level, phuket is slightly higher than BKK

Quick update for you all following a trip to Patong over last weekend.........................

There are many bars catering to many tastes along Soi Bangla and the adjoining smaller Sois. Soi Seadragon as the greatest number of Go-Go style establishments and the guys in my group seemed to prefer Suzy Wongs, Suzy Wongs II, Diablo and Exotica with SWII the best of the lot. The girls are very interactive with shows on stage and lots of tactile behaviour in the seats around the joints. Some really beautiful young ladies with great presence and command of English! Bar fines are about 500B to the bar and 2000 to 3000 to the girl for ST.

Soi Crocodile caters to the ladyboy fraternity. There were plenty of ladyboys and their admirors and the girls (?) came in all shapes and sizes!

Freelancers can be found on the street or in the drinking bars with Hollywood and Tiger (upstairs) the most obvious but by no means on their own in this sector of the market.

Then there are the pool bars and games bars where the girls are of lower quality looks but often are more fun and less demanding. Ultimately everythings for sale so these bars are fair game if you are looking for a proper GFE.

Patong in phuket is like 90% dark skin 10% fair skin. Just to update the bros here on the situation at Phuket 30th March to 5th April,

Day 1-2:-
Was here to attend a wedding, took a cab "meter taxi" from the airport to renaissance phuket for 450 baht, after checking in, flag a private cab arranged by the hotel for 2000 baht (back and fro) to Lotus Restaurant at Laguna bay for lunch. Was quoted 1200 baht for a traditional massage in the hotel.

Day 3:-
Check-out and headed over to amata resort at patong, flag a private cab that cost 1200 baht (these cabs are really a rip-off). Discover that amata resort is actually a very old resort with keys for the rooms door. It was however a stone-throw away from Christine Massage (it's a pink building by itself). Went in to check out and was quoted 3000 baht. Massage and extras was pretty SOP, nothing to shout about.

1) Lunch was at No. 6 restaurant (near C&N hotel), ordered pad thai - seafood 160 baht , kai lan 100 baht, green currey beef 260 baht, rice 10 baht and 2 x coconut 120 baht.
2) Dinner was at Sun Seafood (near Aspery hotel), ordered thai style fish 400 baht (900gm), stingray 400 baht (900gm), 6 x oystal @ 40 baht ea, 2 x coconut 120 baht.
3) Night was spent at Black Horse (Beer bar - Opposite Sol Eric), ordered Irish Cidar 160 baht and Chang 90 baht looking for the right swt.

Day 4:-
TBC, any bros in patong area now?

The best advise that I quite regularly dole out in regards to Phuket is to ALWAYS rent a car straight at the airport.

One can get a decent small car for about THB 1,000/day all inclusive except gas - which will save you not only lots of money (by not having to rely on taxis/tuk-tuks), but it will save you all the hassles and frustrations with having to deal with these crooked drivers/gangsters.

And if you want to save a bit more (but put your life in your own hands) then you can rent a motorcycle - but I really wouldn't recommend it as driving habits in Phuket befits its image as a party town.

Just came back from phuket. After a week of bar hopping I got to say that the best in phuket are Diablo and Suzy Wongs. We tried the other pubs like ExoticA, Suzy Wongs 2, Devils Playground but they couldn't compare to the first 2.

Suzy Wong for ass smacking fun..literally. there are rubber tubes you can use to smack the girls who willing offer to let you do it and will then return the favour. The girls are playfull and adventurous too and nights in Suzy wongs can get pretty wild.

Diablo girls are much better looking but the energy of the place is lower. The girls don't go full tilt wild unless you start splashing bahts around. On my very first trip to Phuket I was picked up at the airport by a driver arranged by my hotel..... I thought he was my hotel's driver and used him throughout my stay. He has all the lobangs and I had a great time.... even getting to know a few more local guides. Only after a few trips did I find out he n his friends were free agents and not an employee of the hotel. And I also found out that I had been carrot headed by them on my previous trips. An example was like I was paying 4K baht for a FL that normally charges only 1.5K. :mad:

GOD is great.... a few months after I made the discovery... the tsunami struck Phuket.... and took along those guys that carrot headed me.

Now I am a seasoned traveller to Phuket.... I bring friends and buddies around to show them the ropes... :D

Read at Phuket Gazette that there will be no alcohol sales on 12/Apr at Soi Bangla, Patong beach to ensure safety... This is the 1st time though not sure whether they will fully enforce or not.. Based on the article, even drinking at roadside also can't and local authority will catch who break the rule..

Just need to check - if I'm not wrong, Phuket only really celebrates(closing of bars/shops, all-out water fights) Songkran on 1 day and 1 night, because it is too disruptive to tourist activity.

Which day is it on, the 12th or the 13th? Or am I wrong? Because I know most of Soi Bangla bars/discos close(maybe not Soi Seadragon or small Sois off Bangla) on 1 night and the whole street is just wet mayhem.

Quite a few of the hotels in Phuket (and Thailand) have already caught on to this ploy and now insists on the girl's name/ID upon checking in.

Even if you tell them that she's coming later, you don't have her ID etc with you then, they will ask the first girl you bring to do so then....and of course subsequent girls you also bring in...under the pretext of "protecting their guests from problems with any companion in their premises.

Best is just to clarify what exactly is any particular hotel's policy on guests and their charges - if any of course - even before you check in. Huffing and puffing when you get charged extra ain't gonna do you any good after the fact.

Just book double (for insurance), no diff in tariff for majority hotels. 2 situations: Hotel security either note or retain her ID. Worse, just register her as accompanying guest (you already paid for the privilege). Only catch is change of guest daily ...like towel or linen change:p:p

Well I went there last sept and me and my buddies went to their club , Hollywood and we both had 2 very sweet looking girls aged 20-22 who went back with us . Apparently they are students and just happen to be at the club for like part time work/leisure . And they dint really asked us for money only the money for them to go back hotel . Wow, haven't been here for a very long time so decided to check in for a bit.

Rikobo, what kind of activities are you referring to? If it's sight seeing and shopping then easiest to just walk around the old part of town.

But if your activities requires someone from the fairer sex then that can be had too. Unlike tourist places like Patong, Phuket Town is more the massage parlor type places and or Coyote clubs. More Thai style. For massage joints, go to Phun Phon area and just walk around and see which one you like. There's probably more than a dozen massage joints down there. But the better places would be Angel and Katherine.

For coyote clubs would be Intro, DUZz, or Barzaah.

Depends what you like but there's things to do in Phuket Town for sure.

HKTboy, agree Phuket town offers a diff scene from likes of Patong. Was there 2nd time (last time was few years back) in late March. Prices for makan is lower than touristy Patong and other resorts. Stayed at Royal Phuket City hotel, and nearby was some coyote place (forgot name liao). Guess Fantasia place still there?

Did nice dinner for 2 with 3 jugs beer, some oysters for princely sum baht 650 only at Sure Garden (thai pubs with live music next to small river). But you would hardly see angmohs around.

Last time I took a tourist walk around, interesting sino houses with tin mining history.

had a good night at kor tor mo while i was in phuket. It's a nice break from all the glitz and glamor of the clubs in Bangkok where people flock to be seen in their expensive attire. Phuket is much more laid back.

The bad thing is, i stayed in patong and was only able to go there as a friend was driving.

Nowadays more backpackers/tourists are staying in Phuket Town.

Because of the expensive transport cartels in Phuket, it is not economically viable to go there and back via taxi/tuk-tuk regularly. On the other hand, if you rent a car and are adventurous enough to trust your directional skills or GPS, you can see and experience a lot more of Phuket.

For Coyote bars(like Duzz, Barzaah, etc), my favourite is Glamour, which is situated at the open air carpark beside the Metropole Hotel. It is directly behind T2(local disco) if you know where that is. Private, girls are hot, fun, and drinks are cheap(for members, ladies drinks THB 250 for models, THB 150 for coyotes). The cheapest membership is THB 7000 for 3 bottles of Chivas, unlimited mixers/ice, use of VIP room for 1 night.

For local discos, there are Kor Tor Mor(higher class), Sofa, T2, etc, where the crowd is very local and quite friendly. Bottles are really cheap there, and you are even allowed to bring in your own hard liquor bottles as long as you buy ice and mixers from them.

If you're looking for a different kind of fun and to impress your date(assuming you're a honeymoon-ish kind of holiday), you can try Ka Jok See, where there is a dinner-cum-entertainment experience, which later graduates into a party session. Good clean fun which, from my experience, most females seem to enjoy, but for me a tad boring.

Khun thais are already using Iphone5 for a loooong while (they not from Mars, you know). Just hit local telco shops (if you can't fix at airport on arrival). If AIS, there shd be a Telewiez in Junceylon in Patong. If Phuket town, go Ocean mall.

Regarding SIM cards, when I arrived, there was a True counter selling SIM cards in the baggage collection area. They had micro & nano sizes, all 100bhat. However, True data is not 3G, its EDGE. And they limit how much data you can use for free a day. You want more data, its ~130bhat for 200MB, or ~300 for 1.25GB.

As for the rest of the telcos, I didn't see their counters anywhere in the baggage collection or arrival areas...

yinyang, Fantasia is no more, it closed down a couple months ago. It's the same owner as Barzaah in Phun Phon area so they just moved everything there. Of course it's much smaller compared to Fantasia but I think it's a nicer place. Fantasia is just too big and it's dead all the time.

I've seen the new coyote club Glamour but haven't been there yet. Since bro Adversity seems to think it's pretty good, I may venture there for a look see.

Haha, yeah I way prefer Glamour, compared to say Duzz(which is a bit run-down in my opinion), the place is nicer. At least they have an upstairs sofa area instead of just standing tables, and proper rooms(the ktv systems suck, but who's there to sing anyway?) instead of just booths with a thin curtain.

It is much bigger too, and has a proper stage plus another showcase sort of area for the girls to dance. Only thing is they're not as naked as the other places(just nipple stickers), but if you're in one of the private rooms, anything goes.

Prices are cheap too, if you're a member(I think cheapest package was THB7000 for 3 bottles of Chivas, free use of VIP room, free mixers for 1 night). Ladies drinks THB250 for models and THB150 for coyotes.

According to my market research Phuket Town is becoming more and more happening for the past 2 years.
Patong is too "trashy" if you know what I mean.

I like that change.

I totally agree, the soapy massage joints in Phuket Town are really bad. The selection of girls can only be described as average to poor. So far every time I've gone in with very horny friends from SG, the answer has always been a resounding "NO THANKS!".

There is an equivalent of SG's Desker Rd, Soi 11. I hear it costs between THB500-800 for a ST there, but so far I don't know of anyone who has taken up the services so I can't be sure.

I personally dislike Pink Lady. Only been there once, and to me, it is rather tame and boring. The mamasan quoted some ridiculous price for an outcall, so I made a mental note never to bother about this place again. Out of about 30 girls, only about 3-4 were reasonably hot. That being said, some were really good singers though. I hear that the Japanese tourists/expats like this place though. Perhaps they just don't know where else to go!

As for the massage parlours in Phun Phon, they're not always the best but I find Katherine and Angel to be the best quality. It's gotta be better than Christin's in Patong right?

As for Soi 11, I wouldn't bother going. I've personally never tried the services there but the one time I walked by at night it was not good. Was in Phuket for a week. Checked out several places and found na nang the best place to have a relaxing time with lots of syt uni girls in attendance. Met a local student in the uni at Samkong studying tourism. Spoke good English n was friendly and interactive. The catch is that in order for the girl to sit with you without butterfly is 6 ladies drink at 150bht each. The rest is up to your ability.
Na nang is a little difficult to find as is in a sort of cul de sac opposite intro on phangha road. Bring your own drinks and pay for mixers. Cost is reasonable.
Coyote club intro is very commercial. The ladies practically hang on to you like their lives depended on it. Went on a sat night n was pretty empty. There are some cuties but remember unless you get their HP no, they will be gone in a couple of weeks.
Pun phon has become the official red light area! There used to like a couple of discreet joints in the area but now wow drive through and they are everywhere, kinda like geylang a few years back!
It's low season now, so the town is a little quiet and getting in and out of the airport was quick. If you're planning to go to central mall give lots of time as there's a permernant jam at the crossroad there. Worst time is after school.

Those staying about a week can buy 3G SIM card fro Ais 1 gig 480 baht. Can get in the Ais shop at robin sons in town. Avoid central mall.:)

Those old timers will remember the place as Lilac. It's situated in front of Metropole hotel in downtown Phuket.
