i tell you something hor. last night i ended up in a karaoke that's like 40 min away from D1 - taxi alone cost me 185k!

a mommy that i known starts working there, and called me to go and support her. thinking it is so damn far, and the quality of the place no assured, i didnt call you along, intending to check it out first before sharing.

this place is called 天上人间 (now almost every country sure got 1 karaoke/night club with this name one... 1 in malaysia, 1 in macau, 1 in hong kong, 1 in sheng zhen...). it is located in Tinh Binh Duong, which is outside of HCMC.

when i reach there, got quite a shock. that part of VN is quite ulu, and then somemore situated in an industrial park, so i already didn't have very high hope on it. so when the cab driver tell me reach liao, i can only see a bungalow. yes, a bungalow, with a main gate, drive way, garden, and cab driver must change gear from main gate to main door one...

then the mommy i known already waiting for me at the door. led me into the "house". wah... really like someone's staying there. but instead. got into a small room - me alone... - the room quite nice. new sofa, big speakers (1.5m tall), nice deco. got attached bathroom somemore.

then came the girls. was told that there are 4 mommies there, and they are all friendly. so can interchange girls.

immediately, i saw 1 girl that's very kawaii. picked her, then realized she only speaks vietnamese. cb... should have called euphoria777 here.

then mommy left, i turn off the lights in the room, and selected 20 dance songs (computer selector! no more fucking song books!!), got her to down 5 glasses of johnny with me, and the party begins.

actually, not ex compared to catwalk lah. the room's package is 1.6m with either a 12 yr johnny, vsop, or a carton of heineken. i paid 250k more to turn my johnny gold. in catwalk, this will cost 2m.

a little more free today. so i guess i can share a bit of my experience here in HCM with you.
Got here a few weeks back. Been to a few places recommended in this forum i.e. Catwalk(6/10- bloody expensive), Apocalypse Now(6/10-nice place to "bird-watch",chick aplenty but not my type), Cafe 19(the one behind Sheraton, 7/10- scored 2 goals there, price for 2 is USD100/ST), the HC at Superbowl(5/10- abit rundown), Club Royale (8/10-nice place with casino, lounge and KTV, also bloody ex. The good thing is that I probably have found myself a permanent gal from there:D ), and a few more joints(dun know where, my fren brought me).
I should say that HCM is a pretty good place to cheong provided you have the money. Will probably take my fren's advice and keep a permanent gal. Cheaper in the long run...ke..ke...

Depends on your budget. A lot of hotels in HCMC. Kimdo, Windsor, Express, Vien Dong, lan lan.... your parents looking into comfort or just a normal budget hotel? If comfort, u can try, Kimdo abt 50usd or Windsor abt 60usd. If budget, Vien Dong, Empress or Lan lan, abt 30usd. I stayed in Vien Dong, Kimdo n Windsor b4... All clean hotels. BTW Windsor is located in Chinatown. So this might be good for your parents. ;)

i remember when i first came to HCM several years ago, i hailed a taxi at around midnight at district 1 to send my drunk galfriend then back to her home at district 3. being ignorant, i didn't know D1 is just next to D3. The taxi took me for a joyride and by the time i reach back my hotel in D1, the meter reading was 280,000VND. Damm... if i have known, the ride may just cost 28,000VND.

With your budget, you can get new bikes bro. If you are not big sized, a normal SYM Attitla will be alright for you. There are also other choices like China Made Honda @ . But if you are big built, you may want to consider 2nd hand Yamaha Majesty. All these are below US$2.5k. Check them out.

Next thing you have to make sure is that you have a bike license. If you have a class 2A in Singapore, you have to convert it to Vietnamese license. If you don't have bike license at all, you need to go for the highway code and practical test, but all these are done in Vietnamese language. If all these fail, ride at your own risk and avoid the police checks with the big vans.. because if the big vans are around, no bribe allowed and they will confiscate your bike if you are without proper license. :D

So finally, I too have gone to HCM. All I can say is that HCM is a great city and the people are very hardworking, intelligent and enterprising. HCM will see many rich people blooming in the years to come and one of them could be Bro Singviet. (I'm sorry SingViet that I did not called you as I went there with some family members too)

The city of HCM is indeed very crowded with people; everywhere you go, there are lots of local people everywhere from morning till midnight. The population is about 8 million. The roads are wide (about 4-5 lanes wide) and they are filled with motorcycles (about 4 million bikes).

Crossing the road is not an easy task. Just imagine that you want to cross a 2-way road that is about 5-6 lanes wide with all the vehicles and motorcycles everywhere, moving non-stop. Theres no way one can cross the road if we are to wait for the vehicles to clear. So how to cross the road then, well the answer is just walk slowly across the road, with the motorcycles and cars moving in front and at the back of us, very dangerous but thats the only way.

If you intent to rent a car and drive around HCM, you can forget it as their roads are very chaotic, i.e you can see cars and motorcycles moving in all directions, coming in from all angles. Only the local people can understand their own road system.

For those who love shopping, for those who enjoy walking along sungei road, dont ever miss HCM-chinatown as the things there are very cheap and good. Going to HCM-Chinatown reminds me of our olden days "goo chia chui" ,chinatown (kreta ayeh), opposite peoples park. There are plllllleeeeeeentyy of shops there, (very amazing)

Of course, for those who enjoy nightlife, there are plenty there too and if you walk in the night along their streets, you will encounter many okt's offering their gals to you at very cheap price too such as US$60 for overnight services (12 am- 7am), and these OKT's are everywhere too.

I also noted that they have casinos in almost every 4-5 stars hotel, these casinos they called club.

Accomodation also is cheap in HCM. Me and my friend stayed in Orient hotel (aircond + 2 bed + with toilet) for US$15 per night which include breakfast. This hotel is located along Phan ko lau, commonly known as the back packers area. Of course the room is small and theres no windows but the location is fantastic, very centralised.

In conclusion, HCM is a city one must visit. For 4 days, I spent total Singapore$400 which includes, airfare, airport taxes, hotels, food and local tour, and taxis.

Bro, I don't think you have been around much of the city. There are traffic police everywhere and of course, there are police patrol cars once in a while.

As for private clinics, unless you read Viet, you will not really know how their local clinics look like. Look out for signs like BAC SI .. BAC SI means doctor. Vietnamese often just go to pharamcies to buy medication without going to doctors. :D

let me chip in a bit on info on hcmc. i have been in and out of saigon (and also in and out of saigon girls' pussies) for over 4 years now. doesn't make me an expert of this place (like singviet), but long enough to share some observations.

1. Saigon is safe.

Bro, its normal la. CNY or TET is a big thing here in Vietnam. The earliest you can expect some shops to open is maybe by 2nd day of CNY. But from my experience, most shops open by 4th or 6th day of CNY. :D

You want to learn vietnamese from a chinese teacher? She teaches vietnamese in Mandarin, she speaks cantonese and hokkien too. Her mandarin is very good. Her fees are cheap also. But you must go to her house in District 1 to learn. If interested, let me know

When i learn vietnamese some time back, the teacher wanted to teach me the different tones. But i was so confused man... hahahha But its always good to be able to master the different tones, as one word of same spelling, but different tones... represent different things. :D

They say risks of a bird flu pandemic, higher interest rates and volatile oil prices remain but regional economies are better prepared than before to withstand any adverse impact.
Singapore, the region's most advanced economy, is expected to continue last year's strong growth momentum, while the Malaysian and Thai economies are also forecast to be on firm footing.
The Philippines is expected to remain buoyant, thanks to the billions of dollars in remittances by overseas Filipino workers, the analysts said at a forum organised by the Singapore-based Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) last week.
Song Seng Wun, a regional economist with CIMB-GK Research, expects Singapore's economy to expand by seven percent this year and about five percent over the next two years "on the back of sustained regional and global growth."
The 2006 forecast is well above the government's growth target of three to five percent for gross domestic product (GDP), the total value of all goods and services produced in the country.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the city-state's economy grew by a better-than-expected 5.7 percent in 2005.
"We are seeing more broad-based growth, especially within the services-producing sector," Song told the forum of academics, diplomats and business leaders. "After seven years of decline, the construction sector should return to the black from 2006 onwards."
He expects the Philippines to achieve 4.6 to 4.8 percent GDP growth this year, buoyed by foreign worker remittances, which accounted for 11 percent of GDP and 18 percent of current account receipts in the first half of 2005.
The country has about 10 million citizens working overseas.

Adam McCarty, the chief economist of Hanoi-based Mekong Economics, said Vietnam's GDP is expected to have grown at a blistering 8.4 percent in 2005 and will continue to expand above eight percent this year.
"I don't know if 'tiger' is the right label, but it (Vietnam) certainly is a developing country on the path to catching up with the richer ASEAN countries," he told the ISEAS forum.
"In macro-economic trends, Vietnam is exceptionally stable even relative to other ASEAN countries."
McCarty said that looking forward, "I can't see any real indicators of a serious problem" for the country, which has been scarred by decades of war.
"I look for imbalances in the political situation (but) there doesn't seem to be anything... I don't see any economic imbalances either in the sort of things that caused the (1997-1998) financial crisis in Asia," McCarty said.
Corruption remains a "very significant problem" in Vietnam but progress has been made to fight it, he added.

I do share the same sentiments as you. before i went to Vietnam, i have an impression that its a war torn country where the people live in poverty. Upon arriving in Vietnam some years back, my idea of them changed drasticially. They are much better than what we thought.

As for positive working attitude, i do want to voice some disagreement on that. In terms of productivity, they are still some distance from the developed countries. Maybe they are very much used to the communist system, they are really a bit lazy.

The Vietnam govt's positive attitude in attracting investments is something that's good for the country. Its surely the next rising country in the region. Singaporeans just need to look beyond the shore of changi. The world is not singapore and singapore doesn't set the standards in the region nor world. :D

I do agree that doing business in Vietnam is not easy. Singaporeans and other foreigners do reply a lot on locals for assistance in business, but the locals are not always friendly or to be trusted. Even to the extend when one has master the vietnamese language, it still doesn't make life much easier.

But on the other hand, setting up and running of business is surely much cheaper than singapore. The huge market is already a plus point. Overheads are much lower as compared to Singapore.

If doing business is easy, then most people will not want to be employees already :D

Generally, Ho Chi Minh City is quite a safe place, especially in District 1 where most of the tourist are at. There are no worries about hotel reservation as there are plentiful hotels in the city. Lan Lan Hotel has 1 main and 1 branch. Some of my C A clients have stayed in Lan Lan 2 before, not bad. Big, nice and clean rooms for a budget. You will be surprised that some hotels provide rooms bigger and nicer than Hotel 81.

The last time when i brought my angel to Lan Lan 2, the new manager created a little `commotion'. But eventually, the client still managed to bring the gal in for the night. So if u are planning to have your gf with you for the few nights, maybe you will like to look for others. Your gf should know the place quite well. If worse come to worse cannot find any budget hotels when you arrive, ask the cab driver to drive you to Bui Thi Xuan Street in District 1. There are plentiful of budget hotels there. Some bros may recommend Pham Ngu Lao Street for budget hotels, but i personally dislike that street for that many flithy back packers.

No worries about staying in these budget hotels, they are safe generally. :D

I was at Lan Lan 2 for couple of days 2 weeks ago and I do agree with you the management and their staff do give "comotion" to non regular. We moved to next door ( I forgot the name of it ) I am sure Sing Viet can tell which one it is. Cheaper and friendlier.

for those of you who can speak the language, I recommend the foot massage next to Lan Lan 2..I took them out and they want me to stay few extra days with them, which I could not. Also, their is a baber shop across the street of Lan Lan 2...treat your self a nice head massage...Havefun.

I think i need to let bros know again about the reservation system for Charlie Angels. I can understand some bros sudden surge of horniess, but please give me minimum of 2 1/2 hrs notice. This time grace will allow the gal to take shower (to smell nice), put on make up (to look great) and to put on a nice and sexy outfit (to be seductive). At the same time, it will also allow travelling time. Those bros who have to HCMC before will know the crazy traffic here, it really takes some time to reach the destination.

At the same time, please note that Sheraton and other 4 and 5 stars hotels are all not gal friendly. You must be prepared to leave your comfy beds and go to the local mini hotels that i can arrange for you. These mini hotels offer nice and clean rooms at a cheap rate. So for the sake of fxxking, please downgrade a bit to go mini hotels.

just back from Saigon this afternoon after my last visit in mid October 2005..

Bros here who read my post previously will know that I missed my dream gal so this trip is to see her again :) As I knew the gal who sat with me last time is still on Tet vacation and I don't really want to see her as now she sms me for handphone and dog. I am trying my luck to see whether my dream gal is working on Sat nite when I landed. When I arrived Co Digan, I went in to look for her but could not see her..perhaps too many cutomers around...a bit disappointed and took out my camera phone to ask the bouncer whether my dream gal working tonite. Then nowhere she appeared and surprisingly recognised me and can see her sweet smile again...

As usual order a 35cl Hennessy VSOP and start the drinking and holding...from time to time, she need to go to another table to entertain as they came before I arrived..she will ask colleagues to keep me occupied but those gals dun quite like my hugging action...sian so keep looking at my dream gal from afar...

The nite was memorable as she didn't reject my lip kiss when I tried....when bar closing we gave each other a good hug and I back to hotel.

Spent the entire Sunday on trip to My Tho and Ben Tre for sightseeing...

When trip ended around evening time, called up a Viet gal whom I met in JC this year as she mentioned can introduce gal for overnite. Met them for dinner and the intro gal seems pleasant looking though not the slim type I like. After dinner, I suggest go to a new bar which just opened 2 weeks ago called Notnhacvui @ Pham Ngoc Thach. I simply like go bar to check out gals. Also, I would like to see how responsive the intro gal was and can then decide whether to overnite. While at the bar, got a sms from the dream gal to ask me go down to bar and look for her...was undecided as if I go will mean no one to overnite since I dun think the dream gal would go overnite with customer. Anyway, the new bar has a live band and singers and played those techno in between break. Lounge sofa filled up quickly...waitresses look not bad but pretty one, my dream gal type again :p is manning the bar counter..

After testing the intro gal responsive, decided to take her back to the same hotel I stayed before. After shower, asked her to give massage as I tired with the sightseeing..I was surprised she gave a good massage and then she told me she worked in MP before. You all know that masseue like to tickle your didi when their hands near our groin area..the feeling / sensation at that moment is so heaven with those different stroking...damn high liao..ok the rest normal routine....

Woke up about 9.30 am and had shower together. She wanted to meet her friends for coffee so I asked whether can follow. One motive is to see how the locals went for morning coffee and the other motive is to check out her friends.. The coffee place is called Cat Dang..quite nice with garden setting...friends (working in MP) came and their looks nothing to say about..the intro gal told me she's going to Singapore also on my return flight but I thought she is kidding... how can so coincidence..

At boarding gate really bumped into the intro gal with her sister...asked intro her to sleep on my lap throughout the journey...after landing..many Viet gals need to go into customs office for questioning...I will leave this part out as better not said about their stay here..met their handlers oso and they thought I am one..

Have already a confirmed trip back to Saigon in mid April..btw, the damage for the intro gal is VND 1,000,000.

to be honest, i do not fancy singapore food here in HCMC.

The food court in Mei Linh Point sucks big time. From the Chendol to the Hor Fun, i do not know if they really know how to cook singapore food. My wife, a vietnamese, also told me that the food sucks big time after we went there. We decided never to return again.

As for little red dot, i have been there with fellow samsters before. The food is not bad, quite original. But the bill isn't very original.... the food is actually very expensive. My wife and i also went there once and decided not to go again.

As for the hainanese chicken rice, i have not been there before thus i cannot comment.

I do miss singapore food but it seems that its difficult to find a reasonably priced and original tasting singapore food place here in HCMC. If having some teh terek and some plates of mee is going to cost me over S$70, then i will rather eat local vietnamese food.

Thank you for your REPLY message. It has been very helpful. My partner runs a coffee-shop in Singapore and is familiar with several hawkers who really cook typical local food in its very traditional way.

I have talked to Fred from the Mei Linh Point Food Court, he asked for a Take-Over Fees which I rejected flatly without any further negotiation. Eric from Little Red Dot is doing well but his new Fusion in PARKSON, HCMC suckz BIG TIME because of the pricing! It is even more expensive than something we have in our typical food court or smaller-end restaurants.

Thus, learning from the 2 great examples and with more negotiations with my partner, I may just be the next best thing you find in HCMC the next time you visit.

Now, I have questions, if I should go in:

1. Should I do a Restaurant Concept (l may lost the local patrons because of the pricing)?
Price ranges: 25 000 - 250 000 Dongs per patron.
Buffet at 250 000 Dongs.

2. Or a Food Junction Concept (Will the expats still visit, having to sit around with the locals who may be loud and unhygience)?
Price ranges: 5 000 - 80 000 Dongs per patron.
Buffet at 80 000 Dongs.

Something similar to Food Junction concept will work better. It will attract the expats and locals. Many expats here seat around with the locals all the time. Those who can afford to go Food Court ot restaurant are not the bottom end of the society, this they are better. :D

It's Good News to me too! I have called my partner and given him a "Green Light" to go ahead with the HCMC plan; our Food Junction should be ready by July. Currently we have several ideal locations in Dist.1, 3 and 5.

Weekend is coming, besides District 1, you can try "Nguyen Trai" to see some beautiful Vietnamese mei-mei, there's a really nice salon down "Tran Binh Trong", 50 000 Dongs for a good hair wash and massage > 1 hr.
