The Jakarta Police will kick off a two-week traffic operation called “Operasi Patuh Jaya 2011” beginning on July 11, in an attempt to improve motorists’ discipline and ensure that this year’s road fatality rate is less than last year’s rate of three fatalities a day.

The Jakarta Police’s regional supervisory inspector Sr. Comr. Moer Ali told reporters on Friday that traffic congestion problems in the city were mostly caused by public transportation vehicles and motorcycles.

He said that in the first half of 2011 there had been 88,214 traffic violations and 427 accidents involving public transportation vehicles, and 362,056 violations and 3,133 accidents involving motorcycles.

“The operation will deal with traffic violators like private vehicles and public transit drivers, motorcyclists, jaywalkers, street vendors, beggars, vagrants, and street side parking attendants,” he said.

Jakarta Transportation Agency data showed that 320 of the 1,642 buses in the city impounded for traffic violations in 2010 were not roadworthy. The police also issued 333 tickets to bus drivers for reckless driving last year.

As of Jan. 11 this year, the agency had banned 35 buses from operating and fined 10 drivers. The agency said it planned to continue its crack-down because 8,428 of the 11,091 buses in the capital had not passed the required vehicle standard test.

The Jakarta Police traffic directorate had issued tickets worth a total Rp 9,097,634,700 (US$1.074 million) in 450,495 traffic violation cases as of May this year. As of May, 3,288 traffic accidents claiming 487 lives had occurred.

According to the directorate’s data, in the last six years, 2009 was the year with the most traffic violations, with 737,426 violations involving Rp 11,559,209,200 in fines.

However, 2010 saw the highest number of traffic accidents, with 8,235 accidents claiming 1,048 lives.

Jakarta Police operational division head Sr. Comr. Sujarno told reporters, “We will treat all motorists equally, including those with governmental logos on their plates,” he said.

The Jakarta Police traffic division Sr. Comr. Royke Lumowa said that the average rate of traffic-related deaths in Jakarta in 2010 was three fatalities per day. (msa)

Sands is just next door to Novotel. Sand is a spa where the girls are generally above average. Not too expensive. One of the few massage joint that provides food to the patrons. Only shit thing is the drinks don't come with it. Alexis is about 5 mins away by cab. Enjoy lah.

For FL I suggest you pop down to the in-house bar - CJs. Plenty plying their trade inside. My advice, don't rush - maybe wait until near closing time and you may get a good deal on an overnight session.

Club 36 - Gogo dancers & Strip club (Hotel Jayakarta)

Club 36, the bar of the Jayakarta hotel is a small club, with house music and RnB, one of the most popular and the best in its type in Kota. It has gogo dancers that go topless (Thai and Chinese) and they go completely naked occasionally. Club 36 is very crowded with the Chinese community. It's a good place to go even during the week because you will never be alone there. You can do karaoke also (36 rooms) with one of the dancers or other "companions". Pretty cool place, and it's open late as well (5AM) so it's nice to stop by when coming from South Jakarta, before starting hardcore Kota clubbing!

Its a 5 star hotel, sure they have non alcoholic drinks. Monday not a good time as the resident band is on day off. Tuesday onwards should be better. The obnly female singer, Siska, a local Indoensian chick is quite sexy. On the whole the band is great. You don't feel bored. If you are staying until Wednesday, the crowd is even better. Illigals Hotel and Club is the new BIG one stop entertainment venue in Jakarta, and it replaces the old 1001, which used to be one of North Jakarta's most crazy place (the "sashimi sex" night club in the book Jakarta Underground).

To have it name Illigals is somehow a huge provocation and a sign that some people in Indonesia can do pretty much anything they want. I don't know who the owner of Illigals is, but I can imagine he is very well protected. The owner of 1001 also has Mille's and Millennium, that also have quite a reputation for being ecstasy factories + giant prostitution centers.

The days after the opening at the end of 2010 were slow, but now things are starting to move: Happening parties are being organized every weekend and they are crowded.


First floor: Illigal has a night club, bar and lounge, not too big, and with no real dancefloor. People sit by groups in big sofas around tables.

Second floor: Karaoke rooms, restaurant and billiard, with local "Lady Companion" (LC) (another name for prostitutes actually).

Third floor: Karaoke rooms with "foreign LC".

Fourth floor: Luxurious spa with huge swimming pool

Fifth floor: 100 hotel bedrooms

As you can see, the activities in Illigals are completely illegal in Indonesia, and nobody seems to worry about it. It's funny to think that at the same time, Ariel from Peter Pan is in jail for porn outrage following its leaked sex tape.. How hypocritical!

There is no doubt Illigals will now compete with Alexis and Malioboro in becoming one of Jakarta's hottest nightlife spots. They are planning to have sexy dancer shows and all that stuff, typical of night clubs in North Jakarta. If you go there, please comment or send me an update.

It was like 3-4 years back when the industry played with the government loop holes on the law regardless how they could operate during the fasting month or any holy holiday.

Eve is always closed.
Any hotel can serve alcohol and massage thus u suddenly see so many small hotel coming up over the years like Tematic, classic, emporium, Sun city, Alexis etc etc.

Also if you are register as a restaurant, u can also serve beer the whole day. Others are allowed to operate after about 8 pm and closes around mid night.

So basically not much changes now during the fasting month as compared to many years back where the city is totally dead.

some info from my trips to jkt

jkt is a fascinating city. the jams are much worse than BKK .
probably cost you about S$17-20 ( advise to take silver bird , its a long ride especially with jam) to get to downtown from airport. do try to arrive on an earlier flight , else you will be stuck in peak hour traffic from 5-8pm ( sometimes 9pm also jam)

hotel wise, i will say the city offer a whole myriad of choices from service apartments, budget one to the international brands ( hyatt, marriot, ritz carlton )

i think it is important to chose a hotel with a good location, somewhere close to the action and where your biz meetings will occur. you do not want to waste time getting stuck in the jams and sometimes, the taxi got to go one big round just to make a U -turn, such is the way the roads are designed there. In a bad jam, you might be better off walking :)

personally, i find Mulia Senayan very convenient to stay. Less than 5min taxi ride to plaza senayan and senayan city where you can do your shopping or bird watching. Note, there are many hot babes here.. pretty much what you can find at paragon in BKK.

if bro intend to cheong in the kota, you can choose to stay in places like ancol or mangua dua . hotels there generally cheaper as compared to the Kemang in the south or in the CBD.

but take note, late in the night, 3-4am, kota can get quite messy. some rogue cops might stop your taxi and ask to see passport. I kena once before and had to give them 100k rupiah . didnt want to argue and spoil my night as i had 3 birds with me. hence, if you are thinking of cheonging/ONS in the south ( red square, CJ, dragonfly) , it might be more advisable to stay somewhere near.

ktv - been to zen and not much value here in terms of quality vis-a-vis beijing or macau ktv.

bordello - alexis, maliboro , i usually do this on the way to the airport if my flight is in the evening . honestly, it is quite tiring to get stuck in the jam while trying to get to north jkt if u happen to stay in the south.

normal massage with some specials - places like fortune spa etc.
the birds here are not top notch, but the price is reasonable for such quality. good place to relax and enjoy the facilities .

generally, jkt is a nice place to cheong, minus the jam.
the clubs can get happening on fri or sat night and gals are more friendly vs sgp one. however, the overall quality on display cant be compared to places like taipei. but i find that it is easier to get ONS in jkt , so overall, this place still rocks for me .

Tursini, a witness of the incident who reported the shooting to Ciputat police, said she had heard gunfire and saw a motorcyclist on a silver colored motorcycle at 10:30 p.m. She then saw two people lying on the road.

The victims said they did not know the assailant but that they had been involved in a dispute with the assailant because they were apparently in the way of the assailant's motorcycle.

Police apparently found the shell of a bullet at the crime scene, as reported by kompas.com

The Jakarta administration has restricted operating hours for entertainment establishments across the city for Ramadhan.

Six categories of establishments face full closure, while other establishments will have reduced opening hours.

Nightclubs, spas, massage parlors, video poker dens and bars (both standalone bars and those located in other establishments) must cease operations a day before Ramadhan begins and can only resume business a day after the Idul Fitri holiday ends.

Karaoke and live music lounges will only be allowed to operate from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. during the period. Pool halls located within other establishments face the same restrictions, while standalone pool halls can operate from 10 a.m. until midnight.

Entertainment establishments managed by star-rated hotels can continue to operate normally.

However, entertainment spots in hotels as well as karaoke bars, live music lounges and pool halls are to close on the day before and at the start of Ramadhan, the 10 days before the end of Ramadhan, the eve of Idul Fitri, the two days of Idul Fitri and the day after Idul Fitri.

The administration has restricted opening hours for entertainment spots since 2004 through a gubernatorial decree.

Business owners deemed to be in violation of the regulation face up to three months in prison and/or a maximum fine of Rp 5 million (US$585).

Jafar Siddiq, secretary-general of the Islamic Defenders Troops (LPI), a unit of FPI, said on Thursday that FPI members would specifically target entertainment centers that serve alcoholic drinks during Ramadhan.

They would also strike videogame centers, massage parlors, discotheques and nightclubs that, according to a city regulation, are prohibited from operating during Ramadhan.

Jafar, FPI's former field coordinator for South Jakarta, asserted that he had prepared some 400,000 personnel at 3,000 posts across Greater Jakarta, 580 of which are located in Jakarta.

""FPI will remain tough, like last year, by supervising adherence to the bylaw and raiding those places that violate it. Of course, the action will only be taken if there is no favorable response to a letter of warning to them"", he said.

When questioned about action that police would take against any groups taking unlawful action against nightspots, Jaffar said that FPI would not back off, adding that if bloodshed was required then that sacrifice would be made.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam had earlier said that police would take stern action against hard-line groups conducting vigilante campaigns during the fasting month of Ramadhan.

FPI became infamous for their raids on venues last year when they attacked several entertainment centers such as MW Bar and Ratu Ayu Bar, both located in Wijaya Kusuma area, South Jakarta, and Kawanu Pub in Tebet district, South Jakarta.

Besides FPI, the Justice Party also vowed to oppose sinners during Ramadhan, but said that it would pursue its objections peacefully.

Justice Party chairman Hidayat Nur Wahid said on Thursday that his party had prepared several nonaggressive plans, including ""enlightening programs"" that would be held in all districts in the capital, peaceful parades, placing posters in strategic places, mass prayers and social activities.

SO having said that CJ should be reasonable on that bases alone.

CJ closed last Sunday and Monday. Opened last night. Activities normal except closing time is earlier as they need to let the muslim staff go home early for the morning "sahur" - the morning meal just before the start of the fasting day.

Tonight is ladies night, the crowd gathers earlier as the band starts playing from 9.30pm.

Many girls are still around as this is just the beginning of the puasa month but into the 3rd week / 4th week the number is smaller as many will be making the trip back to the kampung for the Idul Fitri Celebrations.

Bro I was there last night. The manager told me they close at 2am during the puasa month. The band starts to play from 9.30pm instead of the usual 10.30pm. As per normal the crowd starts to gather from about 11pm onwards. See you on the 12 Aug.

IMHO, I was at Illigals in June and i would say it has the best Spa and facilities! It might be bcoz its new but can see that the owner spare no expense in doin up the plc...

Cant rmbr hw muc i paid but i opt for massage and this will wavie ur entranace fee. The freeform pool is very nice and has sexy dancers dancing around the pool from 5pm onwards! Lagi best, there will be one dancer that will be put into the bird cage and she will be hung up. Of coz, they will strip off their bikinis halfway into their dance routine :)

Illigals Hotel and Club is the new BIG one stop entertainment venue in Jakarta, and it replaces the old 1001, which used to be one of North Jakarta's most crazy place (the "sashimi sex" night club in the book Jakarta Underground).

To have it name Illigals is somehow a huge provocation and a sign that some people in Indonesia can do pretty much anything they want. I don't know who the owner of Illigals are, but I can imagine he/she is very well protected. The owner of 1001 also has Mille's and Millennium, that also have quite a reputation for being ecstasy factories + giant prostitution centers.

The days after the opening at the end of 2010 were slow, but now things are starting to move: Happening parties are being organized every weekend and they are crowded.

First floor: Illigal has a night club, bar and lounge, not too big, and with no real dancefloor. People sit by groups in big sofas around tables.

Second floor: Karaoke rooms, restaurant and billiard, with local "Lady Companion" (LC) (another name for prostitutes actually).

Third floor: Karaoke rooms with "foreign LC".

Fourth floor: Luxurious spa with huge swimming pool

Fifth floor: 100 hotel bedrooms

As you can see, the activities in Illigals are completely illegal in Indonesia, and nobody seems to worry about it. It's funny to think that at the same time, Ariel from Peter Pan is in jail for porn outrage following its leaked sex tape.. How hypocritical!

There is no doubt Illigals will now compete with Alexis and Malioboro in becoming one of Jakarta's hottest nightlife spots. They are planning to have sexy dancer shows and all that stuff, typical of night clubs in North Jakarta. If you go there, please comment or send me an update.

At best, the KTV would be on par with SunCity.

Hotel Nikko is a bit further south from Kota. Taxi will take about 20mins depending on traffic. Otherwise take the Transjakarta busway northbound and get off at Olimo, from there, its about a 10min walk to Sparks Hotel.
FYI, the best hotel to stay if you intend visiting Sparks is Hotel Mercure, Kota, not as posh as Nikko but the location is fantastic for cheonging in Kota and Ancol.

This is not a problem, you don't even have to make the first move! Just make initial eye contact and the rest will follow. Picking up gals at CJ is never a problem if they know you have $$$ and even if you're old, bald, fat and ugly like me...:D

Bro, NIkko is located next to the famous Jakarta Roundabout popularly known as Bunderan HI. Its is just opposite the Grand Hyatt / Plaza Indonesia and 5 minutes walking distance to the Grand Indonesia Mall. I would say its a good location and a resonably good hotel. FLs not a problem with Nikko Hotel but best to escort your lady guest out when she leaves. At least she will not be harassed by the security staff.

Distance to Sparks at Mangga Besar is roughly 20mins but that depends on the traffic. If you are going to Sparks, there is a SYT called Widiya (Wi-di- ya), my colleague said she is friendly.

During his presentation, Cecep said the positioning system 22 hilal, hilal majority see the position has not reached 2 degrees as a condition of it start the new month. Therefore, Eid is expected to fall on 31 August.

When the conference started, Suryadharma mempersilahkan Managing Director of Syariah Islam and the Construction of Religious Ministry to deliver a report Ahmad Jauhari ru'yah results from various regions of the archipelago. Ahmad said reports from 30 locations, from West to East Indonesia Sumatra have not seen mentioned hilal or months as the early signs of the new moon. Thus, 1 Shawwal 1432 Hijri and the date of the Idul Fitri celebration of a national official to fall on Wednesday (08/31/2011).

this is my first time visiting Jakarta... got some business to attend and it will be a 3D2N trip. Will be staying at Arion Swiss-Belhotel Kemang.

Since this is my first time here... after going through 20+ pages (backwards) on this thread, still a bit lost, but roughly know how the currency works (pardon me, i am lousy at numbers!).

for where i stay, is it near to any happenings? i am not the clubbing type... most probably opt to ask for a girl for a LT in the hotel room (just the two of us). where to find such gals? Whats that standard rate range for LT (so i dun get chop)?

sorry if i sound really noob here but from what i read on this thread, its either massage palours or those clubbing spots (which i am not too keen).

Kemang got nothing really interesting except for clubbing but again they starts around midnight and end 3-4 am.

Girls here usually serve LT and cost about 500k.

For daily expenses, nobody can adv you depending on what u want.
