I am a occasional tripper... hehe

There are a few Tante crowd. Mainly in your area. They like to drink and sing in the Hall and mainly Chinese lady that claim their husband died.... hehe..... Maybe we hunt there sometimes...

Or u can go to the bar in Halai... many WOMEN there just to sing and pass time. Some can make it.... Avg age is around 35......

Halai, in Ancol is an expensive joint. The chinese tante patronising there are usually from the middle income family. Very snobbish lot. I prefer the local Indonesian gers. I find them more charming and easier to "fish". At least their expectations not too high.

Hi bros,
A little info for travelling in Jakarta.

Stay healthy

Tap water in Jakarta is not drinkable. Always drink bottled water. If buying bottled water from a street vendor always check the 'tamper proof' seal is intact.
Remember to check the water you bathe in and only brush your teeth with drinkable water.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), Jakarta is the 3rd most polluted city in the world after Mexico City and Bangkok.
During rainy season (December, January, February), lower parts of Jakarta (mostly those to the north) are often flooded.
There is a law against smoking at public places in Jakarta, and the smoker can (in theory) be fined up to US$5000. You may see the signs threatening a fine (denda) of 50 million rupiah or 6 months jail for smoking, although that law seems not to be enforced, as locals still smoke everywhere on the street and even in local buses, as anywhere in Indonesia. It's generally prohibited to smoke, however, inside shops, offices, and air-conditioned buildings generally. If in doubt, you can ask locals: Boleh merokok?
hope this could be helpful.

My humble two cents.

Those models cannot make it. Looking at them don't stir up my "appetite" at all. I prefer to oogle at the dancers, at least you get to see the real stuff before you do want to do anything. Lebih nufsu deh. Models 2.25juta no selera.

Went Kingcross on Tuesday night.

Both my Indon friend and me are first timer there.

Went to the bar on ground floor straight and there were 2 dancers dancing on a small stage. Ordered drinks and the mamasan came to explain the package they have.

BM gals with yellow tag are 300K for 1 hour. Promotion now 400K for 2 gals.

Quality not too bad but there are quite a few CMI ones.

FL gals with black tag are 550K for 1 hour. Quality are better. Like Alexis type.

Took a 550K gal from Bandung and service is good. SOP nothing special. But much cheaper than Alexis.

They have about 150 gals and the room is nice.

Thanks for the info hehe let me add on. As this time round staying at Le Grandeur and thanks to bro coleman tried Sand Spa.

Local massage: 200k
Chinese massage: 310k

Opt for a the chinese and came in number 38, didnt ask for her name. She's pretty tan almost mistaken her as local chinese. Massage was good no hurry into special. Chat almost everything under the sun hehe Vip room has attached shower but there's no toilet.

Quoted 500k for HJ and she pretty good at it only con is autoroam with cloths on =.= no finger too. even tip her also cannot hehe she even joke to me say i wont return for her next time for so many restriction. Her hand is real smooth and tender hehe i like.

Age roughly 27* Didnt ask.
Look 76.5/10
GFE 7/10
RTH Yes

Total dmg 310 + 500K

I think here should be the right place to post. On Monday night, after all the meetings that I have to attend, my customer brought me to Sands spa beside Novotel Hotel Mangga Dua which I usually stay. I was expecting the massage was only so so but I was seriously wrong. The massage was very good and the masue I will rate her about 6/10 on the face and body was great. The massage was very good. Good strength. Of cos this place allows hanky panky but subjected to your own negotiation with the cewek. For the facilities like the hot pool is nothing to shout about it you compare to Maliboro, it's a bit run down but most of the time men goes there will skip the pool and goes straight for the massage instead which is the objective. There are 3 types of room you can choose from:

1. Standard room that has only a curtain to close the room (No bonking allow and HJ) Rp200k.
2. Room with attached toilet and with lock (must add Rp100k bonking can be done in the room but subject to the cewek price negotiation).
3. VIP room (didn't try so don't know what is the price.)

For HJ the price as quoted by my cewek was Rp200k. FJ, in the room as quoted by my customer's cewek was Rp500k but we as one of the worker there she said usually is Rp350k so guess it's really on the individual cewek.
I was there for consecutive 2 days. Yesterday while waiting at the waiting area saw a very pretty PFC massue but didn't try. Anyway the price for the massage is below.

1. Normal massage with local cewek Rp200k with standard room add Rp100k if you want to have attach toilet in the room plus lock.
2. Normal massage with prc is Rp350k and rate of the room applies.
HJ is Rp200k
FJ is Rp500k (quoted by cewek)
Bring back to your hotel (Rp2 million 12am to 7am) crazy price.

Consecutively 2 days I have try this girl with tag number 156 (Her name is Rosa). Her massage is good with good strength and nice body. My customer tried number 88 and 89 on Mon and Tue respectively. Both he say the massage is good as well. However one man's meat is another man's poison.

Nice fr, I think prc is that kind of price. I am not sure how pretty the prc is at Le Grand, but I am sure the one at Sands is very pretty cos I happen to saw one walk pass me last week when I was there and I give her a 8 for her looks. Very sharp features with a killer body. However knowing the price for a prc should high for special services, I decided to go for my regular cewek.

Here's a simple FR of my sexperience with a local syt for the first time.

Landed in Jakarta since last monday and has been busy at work for almost every day. Until one night, I feel dam sian and horny, so went to do a google on any possibilities to book a local gal for overnite....managed to find a website with pics..so decided to email to see if got any response. Sometimes these website could be dormant, so was not very hopeful of any response.

Nest morning, received not one, not 2 but a total of 6 emails from the lady boss recommeding her girls (with pics) and rates. After looking through the emails, decided to go a sweet young office girl, M. So text the lady boss to confirm the hotel where I am staying, the date and time of appointment.

FF...left office early and went back to hotel room. Since I am early, text the lady boss whether we can meet early. She replied ok meet in 30 mins time.
After some exchanges of texting, finally met up with up with the lady boss and M. When I first look at M, I thought to myself the pics did not lie, she is cute, fair skin and has a very sweet girl smile. As for the lady boss, she remind me of one of those KTV mamasan. Anyway chit chat with the lady boss for a while before handing the cash to her and both M and I went up to the hotel room.

Once in the room, M put down her bag and commented that she is feeling hot. So I adjusted the aircon and help her take off her office jacket. Can see some sweat beads on her chest...she must have hurried over from somewhere to meet me early. Anyway, started to hug and french her, at the same time grabbing her shapely buttocks.

After a while, ask her whether she want to take a bubble bath and she nodded. So proceeded to prepare the water and make the bubbles. While I was doing this, M bend over at the edge of the bath tub and watch me. I think she may not have enjoyed a bubble bath before.

Once it is ready, both of us strip to our bithday suit and went into the bath. While in the bathtub, cuddle her breast with one hand and the other hand was trying to stroke her pussy, but her legs was tightly pressed against each other. I later found out that she actually dont allow fingering. After a while we came out of the bathtub and wash the bubbles from our bodies.

I then waited for her on the bed while she blow dry her hair. Finally she is done and come over to the bed and that our first bonk fo the night begins. Started off with some heavy frenching and slowly moving to her nice boobs, licking sucking her nipples. At the same time, my hand was stroking and massaging her pussy. After a while, decided to to fuck her so reached for a CD and asked her to put on for me and we started with me on top. As the night is still young, I entered her slowly and slowly thrusting in and out of the pussy. At the same time, mixing with some fast strokes. Can see that she is enjoying as she was like grabbing the pillow/bedsheet so tightly. Anyway I was horny for more than a week, it came pretty in few mins.

We then rested for a while before the second round. At this point, I have to say both my bahasa was limited and her english is not that fluent, so we ended up using google translator to communicate. I then realised I am actually her third client so far, as she started doing this beginning of this month. Luck me:D.

We then proceeded with second round before retiring for the night.

While we sleep in nude, my mind was thinking whether I should go for a 3rd round early next morning. The more I think about it, the more hornier I got. So I woke up early in the morning and slowly move towards her body and slowly carress her boobs and kiss her body. She stirred a bit before waking up, a bit annoyed, but I was too horny to be bother. So started to lick and suck her nipples again and in no time she was also getting horny. I quickly reached for the CD and put it on. Wasting no time, started fucking her for the 3rd time.

I must say this is the first time I came 3 times within a night, so either I am horny or this gal really turn me on.

While we were having breakfast, she gestured to me that she want to to office early so that she can catch some sleep.... ha ha....I apologise to her for waking her up so early.

Anyway, I am still thinking whether I should look for her before I leave Jakarta.

A bit lor lee lor sor FR, but just want to share my first sexperience in Jakarta.

Hi bro,
You may want to stay away from these nut jobs.....

FPI sets its eyes on underground music
Irawaty Wardany, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 03/21/2011 12:21 PM | Headlines A | A | A |
Hot on the heels of its campaign against the dissolution of Ahmadiyah, the hard-line Muslim group Islam Defenders Front (FPI) is now setting its eyes on underground music, which its members believe carry messages that would lead young Muslims astray.

In a public lecture at the FPI headquarters in Petamburan, Central Jakarta, senior FPI member and purported Islamic music “expert” Farid Budi Fahri alleged there had been concerted efforts to turn young people away from Islamic teachings through a variety of underground music.

“There has been a conspiracy. A war launched by the underground community [against mainstream Islamic teaching],” he told FPI members who came to the talk last week.

Farid traced the roots of the underground music to a Zionist movement.

He said that a group of people adhering to Zionist ideology has used the medium to conceal their objectives of world domination.

“At the end of the day, it will sow conflict among Muslims themselves,” Farid said.

He went on to speculate that the underground music community, which initially developed as a resistance towards the mainstream industry by independently producing and distributing music, has been subverted by the Zionist movement to spread ideas that would contradict Islam.

“Are these musicians carrying out a Zionist mission? I would say no. The conspiracy is within the music, the lyrics which carry messages and the ideology which would create a lifestyle and counter culture in the end,” Farid said.

He cited the lyrics of John Lennon’s song Imagine as Zionist music, although Lennon was not Jewish and was not considered an idol of the underground music community.

“People keep singing his songs without realizing the meaning behind it,” he said.

He suspected that the song — about a hypothetical state of the world where religion, state and ideology did not exist — carry a pure Zionist message.

Farid also said some underground musical outfits had promoted Satanic messages. He said bands like Sepultura, Metallica and Lamb of God were satanic bands that could turn young Muslim fans away from religion.

The FPI has thus far tried to extend efforts to reach out to punk communities in the city to spread the message of Islam.

“So far we have tried to approach punk communities in Pulo Gadung and Blok M bus terminals so that they can return to the true Islamic teachings,” Farid said.

He said FPI would soon expand its anti-underground initiatives.

“We expect that we can be done with the Ahmadiyah case soon so that FPI can concentrate on other issues like dealing with heresy that is rampant in the underground community,” Farid said.

Responding to the threat, the Jakarta Police said it would look into the matter. “We have not received information about the issue yet,” City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharuddin Jafar said.

This is not the first time FPI launched a campaign against creative arts. The Bekasi branch of FPI last year called on the removal of a sculpture design by a Balinese artist titled Tiga Mojang (Three Women), alleging that it was a depiction of the Holy Trinity.

The NUTS have nothing better to do than to hassle people having good clean fun.

Hehe yup thanks to you tried PRC at sands lo. Heard KTV but can't find entrances.

Nxt week moving back to sudirman area, where to chiong around there? Fortune Spa nice? just across my apartment.

To go to the KTV you got to go by Novotel hotel, go up to fifth floor. After reaching the fifth floor, you walk across to where people go for breakfast. Then you turn to the left walk all the way straight and on the right is the entrance to the carpark. Once you enter to the carpark there will be arrows showing you when the ktv is. Personal I have not been to the ktv but from the outside it looks pretty grand. So you tried the prc at sands spa, what is the charges like for special, if you don't mind me asking.

Hi bro,
For massage you can try Delta spa, they have pretty good quality massage.
Basic english you can try south Jakarta, anything south of Block M you should be able to converse with as they serves the Ang Mo.
For bars, you could try top gun and my bar the girls all do speak fair english...
Good luck.

No problem, basically you can't look at the face to choose just tell the counter what would you prefer and of cos with a little tips they will gladly tell you who are the good ceweks massue. I have been enaging the service of no. 156. Good strength when massaging. She is tall and slim. Face, I give a 5.5 to 6. My customer tried no. 96 and I saw her and she is quite pretty. According to my customer her massage skill is good as well. You might want to give it a shot. However, 1 man's meat is another man's poison. Enjoy your stay in Indo :D

Hi bro,
Bomb rocks Kota Wisata, Bogor; no casualties
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 03/18/2011 2:18 PM | Headlines A | A | A |
A package allegedly containing a bomb exploded in Kota Wisata, Bogor.
Gunung Putri police subprecinct chief Comr. Yogi Napitupulu said a janitor had found the package at around 7:30 p.m on Thursday. The package aroused suspicion because on it was written “Contains Bomb, Allah is Great”.
“The discovery of the package was only reported to police at 10 a.m,” Yogi said Friday, as reported by tribunnews.com.
While examining the suspect package, the bomb squad discovered that it contained lead.
“The bomb squad then took the package to a safe place, in Kampung Cina, Depok, for neutralization,” Yogi said.
However, the package exploded before it could be neutralized. No casualties were reported as a result of the explosion.
“The preliminary suspicion is that [the bomb] used a timer. We are now waiting for the results of a forensics investigation by the National Police,” Yogi said, adding that no witnesses had reported seeing who had left the bomb.

Take care when we are in Jakarta.
Keep yourself well inform at all times.

I went to Illegal KTV last night.. The decoration and sound system of the place is good and better than Sands in my opinion. Local gal line up is average... PRC gal have only 50 pax according to the mami and the quality is below average. liquor package of 2 bottles of 18 years chivas is Rp 2.5 million ++ and 2 bottles of 1 litter Gordon blue is Rp 4 million ++. The striptease dance is Rp 600k per session per gal and the dancer is more chio than the PR gal. They would do lap dance as well. Striptease dance is totally naked and no G string.

I got the Presidential Suite for minimum spending of Rp 12 million but mami told me that she can get it for Rp 10 million.

Overall, it's a fun club.

No prob we are here to share. For the tips to counter generally is around Rp10k - Rp20k. But it's really up to individual. Local cewek massage is Rp200k if you get a room with lock is another Rp100k. For HJ it's Rp it's Rp200k. If you want the cewek to do HJ w/o clothes you have to nego with her.

During the last week of March while in Jakarta, a buddy suggested we visit a spa after our afternoon arrival. It took us an hour to decide where we visit as both of us had intended to visit Delta spa, Travel hotel, Malioboro and Ancol area. Our intention was as though time wasn't a factor. Over beers in my room we sat down and factoring in time, traffic, money and results, we concluded that Malioboro would be our playground for that day.
We headed to the foreigner section and found that the quality was not as good as the last time we were there which was 7 months ago. Having had 3 beers, we found that none was to our liking and decided to go opposite to the local area.
Now in the local selection area, we went through something like 9 groups of local girls and did not find our dessert. Somehow both of us had shortlisted 3 girls each and recalled them back to our sofa for a further selection. Within the next 7 minutes we had our choice of shortlisted girls and were ready to proceed to the battle zone.

As usual...................... gotta continue in time.

Hi bro,
Just got invited to Red Square, for ladies night; there is always something happening there. can't wait to see what is planned for this week.
I have never had bad luck with the ladies there, and the stock are one of the pretties in town.
Is like butter factory and Zouk on it's best nights.

Hi all,

Just a note! If u want to tar-bao in Jakarta...just head to Bats in Shangri-la hotel. Supply is greater than demand. Local and limited PRC supply. I got lucky and was approached by a HKer...solid!

Negotiate price as usual.
Bro roadrunerboi,

Just my opinion, ...................... Bats is no doubt a nice place to go. This was previously where they had a good band and nice friendly staff. In terms of getting laid, I can't say much as the consignment doesn't match the price. You can still get better commodity else where with a lower price index. Enjoy anyway as what you may find others may only envy.

Why spend millions of rupiahs in a KTV, when you can get all the fun at Malioboro and Alexis. Malioboro is located along Gajah Mada while Alexis is at the tip of North Jakarta. Malioboro is less expensive in comparison with Alexis. In terms of the gals, both are evenly stocked with imports and local chicks. These are the high end spa / club. Malioboro has an added advantage where you can transist between the spa and the club with no additonal charge.

If you are looking at the lower end of the market, you can try Travels at Lokasari or Classics Club on the 2nd floor of Classic Hotel. Classic Hotel is near Pasar Baru. Travels and Classics club charges between 260 - 300 thousand rupiahs. At Classics Club you can get 2 girls for 400 thousand rupiahs.

If you have spare time, you can visit the high end disco at Hotel Mulia (CJ) or Hotel Shangri La(BATS). Both are lively and entertaining joints. If you are the hip hop type you can try Blowfish along Gatot Soebroto. If you want to try and hook better girls, you can try DragonFly along Gatot Soebroto (opposite Blowfish). But don't be disappointed as the girls visiting Blowfish and Dragonfly are usually with some boys. But you never know??

Hi bro,
This is something I got of the net, for those whose asked where girls can speak english.....:)
Blok M
You will find around a dozen small bars on Jalan Pelatehan. D`s Place, Top Gun and My Bar were the most popular bars when I visited Blok M the last time. English language is no problem here because the owners of the bars target their places mainly to the expat community. No need to come to Blok M before 8pm and even that is probably to early. I had the feeling that most of the freelance girls do not arrive earlier than 9 or 10pm. On any given day you will find at least 100 Indonesian girls there to meet potential customers.
A big plus is that girls are used to foreigners and most of them can follow a basic conversation in English.

hope this could help.

My humble two cents.

A word of advice for Bros.

i was hit with a police roadblock last week in a blue bird

I did not bring my passport and had no photocopy of the passport with me.
End up, I need to staff 500K to the police or he will take me to central police station

i advise all Bros to have at least a copy of photocopy of your passport with you when you travel

The roadblock is just outside Kota Train stations.
I had real bad luck

Hi bro,

This may help bring a color photocopy of your passport might be better. You have to have a prove of your ID at all times but it did not say what type.
There where is up to the individual cop to decide.

Hi bros, was at BATS at Shangri-la last night. The live band there constantly churns out great music. A lot of local ladies, but notice that many of them are quite old (30s?). Younger ones tend to go for the caucasian travellers who are partying there too. Rates around 700k to 1m depending on the time of the night. Probably not the best place to go to if you like syts in my opinion. Drinks are pretty steeply priced too.

Hi bro,
Something funny from the Jakarta Post.

Photos show PKS lawmaker stored porn on tablet
Bagus BT Saragih, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Sun, 04/10/2011 8:00 AM | Headlines A | A | A |
Internet comments lambasting and poking fun at lawmaker Arifinto and his Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) increased over the weekend.

The publication of more photographs and the testimony of the photographer proved that Arifinto watched porn stored on his tablet computer, not from an email link as he claimed.

“Photographs cannot lie. The pictures, taken by me, show that the video was not from an Internet link,” Mohammad Irfan, a photographer for Media Indonesia daily, said Saturday.

“I was surprised when I noticed through my camera’s viewfinder that there was a picture of a naked woman on [Arifinto’s] tablet screen,” he added.

The embarrassing faux pas occurred Friday during a House of Representatives’ plenary session, which the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) lawmakers walked out of in protest at the controversial plan to build a new House building.

In the photographs taken by Irfan, Arifinto watched a porn clip on his tablet, which he held slightly under his table while other legislators were involved in heated debate over the new building plan.

The photos showed there were at least six folders, each with a thumbnail, with pornographic content stored on the tablet, shortly before Arifinto picked one to watch.

Irfan said he snapped about 60 frames of Arifinto playing around with his tablet computer.

Data stored on Irfan’s photographs showed that two-and-a-half minutes elapsed between the first and final photograph. Arifinto claimed he had “opened the video through a link sent via email and deleted it only seconds after noticing it was porn”.

A wave of responses — mostly criticism and jokes — has flooded social networking sites since the incident became public.

Arifinto’s Facebook page has been hit by hundreds of sarcastic comments. “Tsk, tsk, tsk. Aren’t you ashamed? Watch the video in private, not in a public space,” one comment read.

Another user posted, “Hello Uncle, please email me the video.”

Twitter users also commented on the incident, particularly after Norwegian porn star Vicky Vette posted on Sunday, “I am super happy that Mr. Arifinto got my email. I sent him my best pictures”. That particular post triggered hundreds of responses and replies, making it one of the top topics on the site this weekend.

Vette also commented on Twitter when Communications and Information Technology Minister Tifatul Sembiring, also from the PKS, earlier this year issued a regulation to block all pornographic content on the Internet.

The PKS aggressively supported the highly controversial 2008 Anti-pornography Law. Earlier that
year, the House also endorsed the much-decried Internet bill under which those creating and distributing material deemed to be pornographic can be imprisoned or face billions in fines.

Tifatul, however, defended Arifinto, saying he could not be charged under the Internet law as the legislator had “unintentionally” downloaded the porn video.

“Those transmitting and distributing porn contents are subject to the law, those downloading are not,” Tifatul said in a statement.

He did not respond to Irfan’s statement that Arifinto played a video he had already saved on his tablet computer.

However, in the unlikely event that Arifinto was telling the truth that the video was from an email link, his decision to download the clip would also be a criminal offense under the anti-pornography law, which his party championed.

Article 5 of the law stipulates that those lending or downloading pornographic content face a maximum sentence of four years in prison and Rp 2 billion (US$232,000) in fines.

National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar, however, said police were still reviewing the Arifinto incident pending an internal probe by the House Honorary Council.

“The act was clearly an ethical violation. We must investigate it and not necessarily wait for an official report,” council deputy chairman Nurdiman Munir said.

My humble two cents.

Here is something from the Jakarta post,
very funny.

ENTERTAINMENT
Porn star mentions legislator Arifanto on Twitter
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Sat, 04/09/2011 9:01 PM | Entertainment A | A | A |
Norwegian porn star Vicky Vette cited Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) legislator Arifanto on her Twitter site.
Arifanto was caught on camera watching a pornographic clip during a House of Representatives plenary session Friday. He claimed the pornographic content appeared when he opened an email link.
In her Twitter feed, Vicky Vette said “I am super happy Mr. Arifanto got my email. I sent him my best pictures”.
Vette has previously posted about other Indonesian politicians and public figures.
She once said Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring, also a PKS member, could touch her anytime he wanted.
Tifatul had at the time received international attention for shaking hands with Michelle Obama who accompanied US President Barack Obama to Indonesia last year. Tifatul, a conservative Muslim, is known to refrain from shaking hands with women who are not his wife or blood relation.
Vette said she was also interested about “Peterporn”, a Twitter nickname given to the vocalist of pop-rock band Peterpan, Nazriel “Ariel” Ilham, who appeared in a sex tape in 2010.

something from the newspaper, guys..

* * *
Jakarta inundated with proliferating ills

The Jakarta Post | Sun, 04/17/2011

Already confronted with an absence of clear-cut policies by the Jakarta administration to address poor living conditions, the worsening traffic situation and an overflowing population, the Big Durian also lacks any solution for the uncontrollable prostitution and the growing number of street children. A team of The Jakarta Post’s journalists explored the issue.

Here are the stories:

Erotic female dancers are up for grabs for any passerby seeking a partner to dance with to dangdut music, while dozens of sex workers — including transvestites — and their pimps roam the vicinity to net customers.

A cheap mix of alcoholic drinks, on-the-street massage services and low-quality marijuana and crystal meth are easily available on the spot.

These worldly pleasures are available at the Cipinang “one-stop service” evening entertainment spot for low-income Jakartans.

Located along a section of Jl. Cipinang in East Jakarta — between the Jatinegara train station and the Cipinang penitentiary — the area is a busy place for street vendors coming from outside Jakarta during the day.

But at night, it is a quintessential red light district.

Although prostitution is illegal in Indonesia — a country home to the world’s largest Muslim population, several police officers, either on their patrol motorcycles or in cars, could regularly be seen stopping. Reporters witnessed exchanges being made, although the specifics of the transactions were unclear.

Cipinang is one example of a new red-light district flourishing in the past five years, indicating a failure by the local administration to at least reduce or control prostitution businesses.

Such areas and brothels — operating either openly or camouflaged as massage and spa parlors or beauty centers — can now be found in nearly every corner of Jakarta.

Prostitutes can also be easily found standing along streets near the Presidential Palace and the National Police Headquarters, or waiting for customers at bars inside lavish hotels and nightclubs.

As Jakarta is littered with prostitutes, there is absolutely everything for everyone. For high-income people, places such as Kota, Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Harmoni in Central Jakarta are havens for those seeking such pleasures.

There is also Jakarta’s largest red-light district of Kalijodo, located on the border of West Jakarta and North Jakarta, which is probably the oldest site in Indonesia, as it has been around since the 18th century.

For those of a lower-income, however, there are numerous hunting grounds, and Cipinang is the latest on the list of Jakarta’s underbelly.

According to local residents, prostitution has been in Cipinang since as early as 1993, centering in a park near the Jatinegara station.

“There used to be only transgendered prostitutes here,” recalled Ukim, a street vendor operating near the station.

But public order officers had driven them out four years ago, he said.

“Such measures eventually failed to deter the business, as the transvestites, along with female prostitutes, moved to sidewalks to net customers,” said Ukim.

Every night, from around 8 p.m. until around 3 a.m., young girls below 20 years of age, dressed in alluring outfits, lined the sidewalks to lure customers.

One girl, no older than 12, could be seen roaming around looking for customers. Most of the prostitutes are from Indramayu, a coastal city in northern West Java.

The prostitutes charge customers around Rp 50,000 (US$5.7) for a short time in a small tent beside the railways near the Jatinegara station, or Rp 250,000 in nearby lodges.

Another infamous red-light district is Bongkaran in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta — only few meters from the Tanah railway station, the iconic Tanah Abang traditional market, the Jakarta textile museum and a police post. The area is also two kilometers away from the headquarters of notorious hard-line group the Islam Defender Front (FPI) on Jl. Pejompongan. The FPI has regularly used violence to crack down on places they deemed against Islamic values such as bars, clubs and karaoke parlors.

Sexual transactions at Bongkaran take place day and night in shabby shacks along the railway or in cheap hotels nearby. The area has existed since the 1960s, and attracts high-income people as well. When The Jakarta Post was recently on site, a black Toyota Alphard was seen picking up a young prostitute and taking her to a nearby hotel.

Unlike Cipinang, where nearly all of the prostitutes are from outside Jakarta, Bongkaran pools many prostitutes whose parents live nearby. Some of them are even still in junior and senior high school.

Customers are usually charged between Rp 50,000 and Rp 150,000 for a short time.

In 2000, prostitution in Bongkaran was only centered in the vicinity of the Tanah Abang bridge and the railway below it. Today, it has expanded by a radius of around 50 meters, stretching nearer to the Tanah Abang railway station.

Prostitution in Bongkaran, however, is prohibited every Thursday night due to an instruction from local leaders — who are of Betawi ethnicity — to respect Islam’s holy day of Friday.

Urban experts have repeatedly blamed weak law enforcement and a lack of coordination among government agencies for the mushrooming prostitution.

“The local administration should treat the prostitution problem as an emergency, considering it’s the tip of the iceberg of all the other social ills,” said Nirwono Yoga, an urban analyst at Trisakti University.

“It’s nearly impossible to eradicate prostitution. It’s about time to create special clusters for prostitutes so that the city administration can easily control their health, and limit the practices.”

According to prostitutes operating in Cipinang and Bongkaran, the last time they received a health inspection by the local administration to detect AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases was in 2004.

There are no official figures on the number of prostitutes in Jakarta which would allow the scale of the industry to be gauged. But the Bongkaran area alone is estimated to have at least 700 girls.

The Kalijodo red-light district, as another example, holds the livelihoods of at least 5,000 people — from hoodlums to sex workers, brothel owners to waiters, and cigarette and food vendors to local residents, according to West Jakarta administration officials.

As formal employment is hard to get, most low-income people are getting profoundly tied to the continued existence of such a district.

Umi (not her real name), a mother of a child prostitute in Bongkaran, said her family had no other options to make ends meet than engaging in such a business.

“It [prostitution] is better for the girls than having an affair or being abused, because there’s some [financial] compensation to it,” she said.

[QUOTE=blueginvera;5859776]something from the newspaper, guys..

* * *

Hi bro,
Here is something funny to keep your eye on.

Police to question photojournalist in PKS legislator case
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Tue, 04/12/2011 11:20 AM | National A | A | A |
The National Police says it will question a photojournalist who took pictures of former legislator from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Arifinto, viewing pornographic content on his tablet during a plenary session last week.
“Police have coordinated with Media Indonesia daily,” National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said as quoted by metrotvnews.com on Tuesday.
M. Irfan, a photojournalist working with Media Indonesia, says he took at least 60 frames of Arifinto viewing the pornographic material.
Boy said police had yet to ask Irfan for the images.
“We need at least two items to build a criminal case [against Arifinto]. In this case, we first will need his testimony,” he said.
Arifinto was captured on camera, allegedly watching a pornographic video on his tablet computer during a heated plenary session on Friday. Arifinto, however, said the clip was not stored on his computer and was a link he had clicked in an email sent to him by an anonymous person.
Arifinto, however, on Monday announced his resignation from the House of Representatives, following mounting pressure from the media and the public with regards to the incident.

My humble two cents.

I think 3 is just good company. No need for an extra head. I think to get a guide would mean having to pay for the additional expenses. Not a wise option if you ask me.

For a start, I would recommend that you choose a hotel near to the heart of the red light areas. There are several decent hotels in the Lokasari areas averaging about 400 - 600k per night. Lokasari is also the heart of all the chinese cuisine. Malioboro, Travels, Classics and even Alexis is not too far away.Frankly you don't need a guide. Only need to stay at a correct location and everything is within grasps.

You can pm to get in touch with me if you need more advise. I am usually free on weekends.

Hi bro,
Just came back from illegals.
On par with Stadium, nothing to shout about, but if you have not seen it; it is worth a [single] trip down.
I was not impress with the place.
There were many cops outside on the street, not very comfortable with this. You get the feeling that at any time, the cops could stop you and question you.
Just make you have all your documents with at all times.

My humble two cents.

Going to Stadium requires some advanced preparation (Serious & not a joke! ). This place is famous for drugs & pick pockets! On 2 of the few occasions I went there some pick pocket attempted to steal my wallet from my pants but I came prepared! My wallet is attached to my jeans with a metal chain & I had a friend who was watching my back coz I was concentrating on my girl! On your way home make sure you check your belongings as a friend claimed he was framed by the MIBs for possession of drugs which BTW was found on him! Just be careful here! This advise is based on my personal experiences & those of others that were shared with me! Stay safe! :)

you can try CROWN, its a very popular joint for the locals. Many young Indons girls frequent the joint. But be wary of drugs, many of the patrons are into drugs. Watch your drinks also, less it be spiked. You never know when someone "innocently" and accidentally drops something into your drinks.

Dear Bros,

Had the chance to stay in jarkarta for a week.
Visits below, let me share my experience
I feel that all is worth going for the experience

Hotel Alexis got 2 kinds.
One is 5th floor or 4th, Chinese PRC for 1.9 million.
It was enjoyable but damn exp.

They will lick and kiss your whole body.
The girl will drink milk and lick the milk onto your body.
1.5 hours. It was an enjoyable exp

And then you have the SPA at 7th or 9th Level
Locals for 900K and PRC, Thai and Vietnams for 1.9M

They will change to your bikini and massage your head and ears in the pool for 30mins. And then you got into a room to get down to Business.

My advice is go to the lounge to select your girl before changing into your robes

Then Suncity SPA.
From outside nothing much
But once inside, the facilitis are first class.

Massage is 300K for locals and 400K for PRCS
They call it theurpist

After massage, the girl will tempt you for HJ or FJ.
300K to 400K HJ
1M for FJ

Maliboro lounge, not SPA( they have 2) SPA was closed when i was there

A lady drink at the lounge is 50K
buy the girl 2 drinks and she will dance on you. Grind you.
They are dancers so no sex
Entrance is about 80K

Then you have the pros.
900K for locals and 1.8M for PRCs, Uzbekistan and Thai

Classic Hotel ( level 2)
Cheap and Good
300K for a single and 400K for a twosome but only one shot
Ask for mama Lili, she speaks mandarin

Ground for is a strip club with many for taobao
quite boring

Hi bro,
just came backed from Stadium, I would say it is value for money.
the fourth floor is the disco, there is where most of the FL's come to relax when they finish their work.
The KTV and brothels are not too bad for the pricing.
4th flool Fls not so pretty, but it is a fun place to see2 what is on the meat market.
Get some phone numbers and work on them for a later date. Most of the girls are fls from different joints around Jakarta.
Hope this could help.

If this Gentleman gives advise, to me personally it is as SOLID as a ROCK! :Dyou can try CROWN, its a very popular joint for the locals. Many young Indons girls frequent the joint. But be wary of drugs, many of the patrons are into drugs. Watch your drinks also, less it be spiked. You never know when someone "innocently" and accidentally drops something into your drinks.

Hi bros,
Just got info that tonight, there be a schedule raids on a few night entertainments venues, specially the smaller and notorious ones. As it is a long weekend, the cops are keeping a tighter grip on Jakarta.
I was planning to go out for a night of fun but decided to go Cipanas, according to source there are a few sex villages up on the mountain[complete with transit motels, play golf in the morning bonk my brains out in the evening, that sounds like a plan.

My humble two cents.

I had a superb trip to Jakarta for the past few days, below is my FR.

First day there, went to plaza Indonesia to do some shopping and have some lunch, the traffic during lunch hour is quite bad so if you can, please avoid it.1st Stop, went to Classics Spa located at the Classics Hotel. Most taxi drivers will know where Classic Hotel is. Upon arrival at the hotel, take a stairs to the basement and enter the Spa Reception. You will be given a number tag. Once I enter, you will get to see Jacuzzi, Cold Pool, Sauna, Steam Bath, Free to view TVs, Track Mill. I must say the staff there is very friendly and would treat you like Kings. I continue to walk and enter the lounge area. Inside here, is like there will be the friendly Mama-san who will help you to intro you girls. If you want a China girl, there is a Mama-san who is from China and speaks Chinese. If you prefer local indo girls, do approach the Indo Mama-san. Personally, I prefer local indo girls as they are more value for money. They have 2 price range for local indo girls (550k for the normal looking ones, and 710k for the better looking ones), you tell the Mama-san your criteria and she will try to bring you the ones that fall into your category. On and off, the mama-san will bring girls to you to say hi and just a handshake and if you want, you can invite the girl to seat down with you or if you do not want, you ask MAMA-san to bring them back friendly. I cast upon this girl call Devi. Those girl next door types, we clicked straight away and I ordered my mineral water to just drink and relax first. Once you think you are ready, can tell the MAMA-san you want to go to the room. And you will be brought to your room.

In the room, the girl will help you to bath first, then do the SOP stuffs, i think Indo girls are much better the thai girls. They are more humble, more accommodating. We french kiss like no tomorrow and we did 2 positions before I cum. After we finish, we chit chat till the time is up.

Later in the evening, I went to look for devi again.

I must say although Classics is not the cheapest in the market, I must say the girls there are very accommodating, and no rush, no pressure and the whole environment there is very relaxing for you to choose the girls before committing anything.

Day 2 in the afternoon I went back to Classics to find the same girl again. Did the SOP stuffs.

All in all I spent around 710k (Damage), 14k (Cigarette), 20-30K (Drinks).

In the night of my Day 2, I went to travel hotel. Most taxi drivers again should know where is Travels Hotel. Upon reaching that area, notice that the area is quite sleazy. As it was raining that night, upon leaving the cab, there will be young children coming to you with umbrella to shelter you to the hotel, I will give them around 1-3k of tips depending how much loose change I have. Then on the lefthand side of the building on the first floor you will see a club kind of concept. Go in, took my number tag and went in and seated on a table. The Mamasan there dont really speak english or chinese, only bahasa, so chinese speaking brothers would be good to go with someone who can speak bahasa. Ordered coke and told the mama-san what kind of girl i want, i want a girl that look like chinese, she brought a girl to me, looks very syt but dont look like chinese so tried to chit chat with her and after awhile, lust overtakes me and I just told the mami I want to bring her to room. (Damage is 300k per shot, this is consider cheap considering the quality of the girls). Her name is Rere, service not that good. below average bonk. She still want to ask for 100k tip, give her 50k only. Then went back to the main area, still horny and wanting to do another bonk before i go back. I prowl around the area and saw this girl who looks damm hot.

Asked her to seat down with me and chit chatted for awhile. Her name is Afi, 21 years old and have C Cup. Big eyes like Anime. Told the Mami I want to do it again so paid another 300k. This time the sex is better. She give me a BBBJ Deepthroat somemore, and after awhile she give me a catbath all over my body and cap me on. She was on top of me and she just keep riding me, damm shiok. Afterwards I change to missionary position and cum it. Gave her 50k tips also. She is very happy.

A tip for travels is that, dont be pressurized by the Mami, if you dont like, just ask the girl to go back friendly. I saw this Ang Mo Guy, changing 3-5 girls before deciding, he was hugging and touching her ass and exchanging eye contact but he just keep changing. So don't rush, find the suitable cewek and than bonk.

After 2 bonks consecutive, I was damm shag, So wanted to flag a bluebird taxi, but cannot find any in that area thus approached another company and was quoted 30k (normal fare was only 15k at most), took the offer as I was too tired.

But, would want to go back to Jakarta again! Cheaper than bangkok and nearer to Singapore.

Perhaps will go back again in august.

Hi bro,

Hi bro,
Like any city, there will always be cheap and expensive place. I think Jakarta is one of the most extreme city in the world.
It can be dirt cheap and it is also be the opposite.
A good Steak could cost as cheap as USD$ 4 buck to a high class restro USD$ 30 [maybe not so nice the food; pay for the venue], all the way to USD$ 300 for a Kobe steak.
Drinks are also based on the venues you want to go.
Stadium no more that USD$ 200 per night per person; you will be very drunk and happy.

Hope this could help.

My humble two cents.

In Classic Spa, the damage for long time for local girls is ard 2.1m. I believe if you go earlier, the price would still be the same compared if you go just before they close, so my advise is go earlier then if you want, you can bring the girl to eat, walk around or etc.

I heard from the mama-san that foreign imports is around 3.4m.

Based on 1 year ago price range from as cheap of 300K and above! Please note that you pay for what you get. Average I paid for ON for FLs without agent is from 700K & above! Agents will charge you almost double the FLs amount coz normally thier commission is 100% ;) BTW please don't ask me for contacts coz Indon FLs change prepaid nos like they change underwear! :P

My mistake, I misquote bro longdick's posting.......:o
My question was that do your tour take away the hassle; like from the cops, if there are trying to be funny, seem that there was a lot of road blocks and raids on night clubs now a days.
I had to come back to Jakarta over the weekend, because several of my clients had to be bail out, because they were caught on some of those raids.
I was at three police station settling thing, and all were small mattes like not bringing their passport and whose that girls they are with..........:(So they had to stay overnight in jail as the cops have check the girl's ID....what a bunch of bull crap.....

Hi bro,
Was at Cipanas this past weekend, you should try; it was fun there was three sex villages where there are hundreds of girls around, and there are motels for transit. prices are about quite cheap.
I was there for a night because I had to come back to Jakarta to settle some problems.
I would like to go there again, the place gives you that good feeling, the air is very cool and the girls are very warm; simple lodging and friendly people. You do not feel like you are in a brothel; more like visiting a friend's home.

From airport to Jembatan Lima about 20-25 km by taxi it's about Rp 60,000-70,000 but it's better you take taxi from departure hall not from arrival hall
If from arrival hall taxi was fixed cost depend on distance your destination in Jakarta city and much expensive then argo

But it's impossible to find someone there if you don't have exact address, Jembatan Lima was big area and many small road there instead of main street : Jalan Jembatan Lima Raya

Jakarta Police go undercover to bust drug rings
Hans David Tampubolon, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 02/18/2011 9:29 AM | Headlines A | A | A |
Through an undercover operation, the Jakarta Police managed to apprehend on Sunday an Iranian who was a suspected drug dealer.

The Iranian, identified only by his initials M.R.A., was arrested when he tried to sell crystal methamphetamine to a Jakarta Police drugs directorate officer, who was undercover as a customer, at the Lagoon Lounge in Hotel Sultan in central Jakarta.
“We arrested him when he showed 400 grams of crystal meth,” Jakarta Police drugs directorate director Sr. Comr. Anjan Pramuka Putra said at his office in Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, on Thursday.
“We believe he was stocking crystal meth from Iran to be distributed in Jakarta,” he added.
Anjan said M.R.A. could be a part of an international network because he was also known to be a distributor in Tokyo, Japan, and along with the crystal meth, the police also confiscated a passport and
two return Teheran-Bangkok-Jakarta plane tickets from the Iranian.
Anjan added that the police managed to apprehend another drug dealer, an Indonesian, in a separate location using an undercover operation.
The Indonesian drug dealer was identified as A.G., with an alias of A.D., and was arrested in Hotel Tematik in north Jakarta.
A.G. was arrested after he showed 1000 grams of crystal meth to an undercover officer who was carrying US$68,000 in cash.
The police also managed to uncover a drug ring producing crystal meth, which was controlled by an inmate at Banceuy penitentiary in Bandung, West Java.
Anjan said the inmate, known as R.D., was the brains behind a crystal meth factory found in Kampung Sawah, Bekasi, on Friday last week.
“[R.D.] gave instructions and ran the crystal meth factory [from behind bars] using his cell phone,”
Anjan said.
Anjan said police managed to trace the ring to R.D. after arresting two suspects, A.H. and D.S.,
during a raid on the Kampung Sawah factory.
“Both [A.H. and D.S.] were released on parole early this year, but kept moving [while running
the factory]. Initially, they ran a factory in Puncak, Bogor,” Anjan said, adding that the suspects suggested R.D. was the one who controlled the factory.
While there are still large-scale drug factories operating, data from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) shows that drug lords show a tendency to operate smaller-scale factories within housing
complexes.
BNN data shows that around 70 percent of drug factories, which had been identified and raided, were located within housing complexes.
The factories distribute their products using three to four drugs dealers in each of the 267 sub-districts in Jakarta, according to the data. This means there are more than 1,000 drugs dealers on the streets of Jakarta.
The data also shows that the most intensive drug distribution takes place in Kampung Ambon in west Jakarta and Tanah Tinggi in central Jakarta. Within those areas, there can be up to five drugs dealers each.
The BNN also estimates that around 1 million Jakarta residents consume at least 6 kilograms of crystal meth daily and this means that the daily transactions of the substance could reach at least Rp 10 billion each day.

That was from the newspaper, but there are infos that the cops are also targeting the night clubs and the road blocks. Please make sure that you know the girls you are with...take reliable taxi, if possible go with a reliable travel company.

Hi guys....
Went to Jakarta last month. I must say i have really enjoy my trip there. But of coz there r always ups and downs during my trip there.
1st stop: went to this place called ''crown''....a place with cover charge and inside u have KTV, disco and a live-band area. I must say some of the bands there r really good, during the band interval they will have girls dancing on stag and doing stripping.. Not a bad place to chill i would say.

2nd stop: Alexis KTV...took the VIP suite since bringing my client there to enjoy....they have lots of girls working there...but ''play'' level is nothing much. But the KTV room design is pretty good, got jacuzzi some more. Damage is pretty bad for a place with ''play'' level so low. Total 5 of us we ordered 2 whisky and some beer inclusive of girls seating beside u only...and our bill was $1000 sg dollar. Just too expensive for my reference.

3rd stop. M Star... Bump into this place by suprise coz we were having dinner opposite in a shopping mall called ''mangga dua square''. This place have everything in one...ground floor they have jacuzzi and spa, than upper level they will have a disco with girls stripping and working girls...so if u see girl or girls that u like u can just tell them to sit with u and drink beer..so when ur ready just tell the waiter that u r bringing her to bonk... I saw this slim and tall leggy slutty looking girl and got her to drink with us....Very sporting she will drink no matter how much u offer. so after a few drinks decided to bonk her... proceed to the room and it was a happy ending with ''COB''.

will be heading back again next month for a weekend.. cheers!!

Went to M star Opposite Mangga dua square.... Bump into this place by suprise.. they r a all-in-1 entertainment place. went up to the disco, they have stiptease show and girls working in the disco... we order some beer, got a sofa seat and enjoy the strip show... occasionally the striptease and come over to ur seat and offer to rubba rubba u for 1min for 1 lady drink which cost only 50,000 rupiah. after a few drinks we would wonder around the disco and hunt for girls... I would say there are all young with good assets and slutty looking... I manage to get a slim and leggy girl.. she sat down with me and drink beer... very accomodating no matter how much u ask them to drink. After a few drinks decided to bonk her. Just tell the waitress and she will record her number and off we go and took a lift to the hotel room.
In the lift, she starting to french me like no tml.... than in the room SOP lah...we showered together than continue to french as she is not pressing for time which is good(due to too much beer with us..hehe)...ended the session with COB...gave her 50,000 tips which made her very happy. Tips:Good to give her tips before the session as she will provide better service :)
Total damage...350,000 rupiah(girl bonking + beers)
Good deal i would say. Am going back again during mid may to explore more:D

hi bros,

thanks to all who provided info on Sands spa. Just came back from there since i was staying at novotel mangga dua. Actually, wasnt as great as i expected. but i asked for it, cos i thought i only wanted a massage as i was tired, so i asked for strong masseuse, and settled for an indon at Rp.200k.... turned out she was a little elephant... and she pressed the living daylights out of me!!!

next time i'll do better to ask for strong massage, but from a slim girl.... i tipped her Rp.50k, and she seemed a little pissed, but what the heck...

i think this is the first time i'll get bruises from a massage, and the thing is that i nber did even though i always asked for strong massage.... nabei... :p

Please take note that the person who started this thread is a proven person who has set up many clone accounts either to abuse SBF forum and has lied & even went to the extent of copying another fourmer's FR then reedit & then posting the FR as his own! Furthermore he/his clones/agent has issued physical threats to another legitmate agent in jakarta even though the agent was not involved in this fiasco! Many people have avoided using this unscrouplous agent whose motive in doing business is not to help newcomers to Jakarta but to cheat them with pricing above market prcing! With regards to the clone issue please visit posting @ http://www.sammyboyforum.com/showpost.php?p=5560889&postcount=341 onwards as it proves that he's abusing SBF by cloning himself & making false FRs and self praising himself/his agent! READ the entire thread & the other legitmate thread on Jakarta @ http://www.sammyboyforum.com/showthread.php?t=113 and you'll realised what a conman he is! Cmon Aakumu and what ever clones you've made up! I'll be looking out for you con tatics! BTW many people have thanked me through PM and given me points for pointing out that you're a fake & saving them for paying more $ by using your fake service! You're so easy to read & profile & now confirmed that your indeed a con artist! Trusting HIM & may result in you/your friends paying more than market rate & you may end getting into trouble because I have reason to believe not only he is a conman but of a dangerous person in nature! Please feel free to verify my statements with seniors in SBF but not with the clones! :)

Please feel free to slam the tour company, there is nothing I could do nor should do to defend it, knowing that I am on moderation make it even easier for you to keep attacking.

Hi bros,
Looks like Jakarta is going to be more Muslim like.
the is from one of the Jakarta's news paper.

Jakarta backs requirement for Koran proficiency
Andreas D. Arditya, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 04/27/2011 11:52 PM | Headlines A | A | A |
Following in the footsteps of other Muslim-majority regions in the country, the Jakarta administration will issue a regulation requiring Muslim school students to learn to read and write passages from the Koran.

Governor Fauzi Bowo said his administration would work with the provincial office of the Religious Affairs Ministry to draft a gubernatorial decree on the Koran proficiency.

“I will sign the decree as soon as it is ready,” Fauzi said during the launch of a Koran recitation campaign at At-Tin Mosque at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta on Tuesday.

The campaign was organized by the Religious Affairs Ministry.

Ministry provincial office head Sutami said that achieving proficiency in reading and writing passages from the Koran would be a prerequisite of applying for public and private Islamic schools.

“Our objective is to motivate Muslim children to spend time reading the Koran rather than wasting their time messing around and watching TV,” he said later on Tuesday.

Sutami said the program would only target young children at first.

“Later we will make it mandatory for people of all ages,” he added.

A draft of the gubernatorial decree is being prepared by a special team formed by the ministry’s Jakarta office and the Jakarta Mental and Spiritual Agency.

“We expect to have it ready for the governor to sign later this year,” Sutami said.

A number of local administrations have issued regulations requiring students to master reading and writing passages from the Koran. They have said that achieving such skills could help them win places at schools.

Koran recitation tests are mandatory in regencies and municipalities in West Sumatra, West Java, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara.

In addition, 19 municipalities and regencies have issued their own sharia-based ordinances, following in the path of Solok regency in West Sumatra, which imposed a sharia-based bylaw in 2001.

Rumadi, a pluralism advocate at the Jakarta-based think tank Wahid Institute, said the proposed ordinance infringed on children’s basic rights.

“It’s certainly a good thing to motivate children to master Koran literacy, but it’s a totally different thing to make it part of the conditions that would enable them to pursue a higher education,” he told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

The Wahid Institute is a research institute founded by late former president Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid to promote religious pluralism in Indonesia.

In a survey it conducted last year on the sharia-inspired bylaws, the institute found that many local ordinances violated the law on regional administrations by issuing legislation that contradicted higher laws and the Constitution.

Rumadi lambasted the plan for having a bearing on public elementary school entrance opportunities.

“It would be acceptable if a private Islamic school did such a thing. But it would amount to discrimination if they imposed this on public schools. You know there are children who subscribe to different faiths,” he said.

Rumadi called on the public and religious leaders in particular to reject the plan.

He said the proposed decree could be one of Fauzi’s ploys to win over Muslim voters in the 2012 gubernatorial election.

“But I’ll give him a fair warning; this plan could backfire,” he said.

I'm not slandering but based on FRs & the only way I would ever believe you is if there is a FR from a reliable source! Now tell me guys imagine if you take his tour & he doesn't like your face = you may end up in BIG TROUBLE instead of being assisted! I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS CON MAN SERVICES! Please read the links to judge what kind of a pretender he is! Please feel free to contact seniors with reputable points for verification instead of those with immense negative points! Hi Sis,

Hi bro,
We are all criminal as far as the law is concern, according to this article hahahaha.....

When online porn fights back
Ika Krismantari, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 04/27/2011 9:07 PM | Feature A | A | A |

Gotcha!: Legislator Arifinto of the Islamist Prosperous Justice Party is caught watching pornographic content during a House of Representatives’ plenary session. Shortly after the incident, he resigned from the House. Media Indonesia
Everyone is an outlaw in Indonesia when it comes to enjoying pornography.

That includes 20-year-old Bunga (not her real name), who admits she loves watching porn, and has done so since high school.

“I enjoy watching porn. I share and exchange porn clips and movie files with my friends,” she said in an interview with The Jakarta Post.

For the sake of her hobby, Bunga is risking a criminal record, playing down the government’s existing
ban against pornographic content on the Internet.

She confesses to sometimes contacting her hacker friends to download some x-rated movies from the Internet.

According to the current the Information and Electronic Transaction Law, Bunga is considered a criminal as she deliberately distributes pornographic content through the Internet, and could face charges of up to six years in prison and Rp 1 billion (US$115,000) in fines.

But Bunga is not the only one considered a criminal in the eyes of the law. In fact, it would appear the government has turned everyone into a criminal.

The government has banned online pornography since last year. The Communications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring ordered local service providers to start blocking access to pornographic websites from the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last year, a decision that reaped controversy because experts doubted its effectiveness.

As predicted, the ban has been the subjects of many jokes, as people can still circumvent Internet restrictions and access pornographic content.

Even a 20-year old and her friends can do it.

Sex, videotapes and court: TV presenter Cut Tari leaves the courtroom after testifying at the Bandung District Court in a sex video scandal involving her and Ariel Peterpan. JP/Arya Dipa
“Most of my friends can hack into the banned websites. All you need is blue tooth and a disk drive to get the files,” Bunga says.

The joke was again on the government when a respected lawmaker, Arifinto, was caught watching porn clips at a plenary meeting in the Parliament.

Setting aside the political controversy, the public has been questioning the government’s ability to crack down on pornographic content on the net in the light of these scandals.

How Arifinto was able to access such content using an Internet connection in a reputable place equipped with the government’s first class security system is still a mystery.

But bypassing porn filters set up by the local authority is a no brainer.

Jakarta-based painter Sugiono (also not a real name), 28, says he can still download pornographic content from the Internet without any difficulties even though he has limited computer skills.

Sugiono explained he had a number of alternative ways to make sure the government’s ban would not disrupt his supply of pornographic movies.

“I can just go to torrent [a file-sharing website] or mailing lists to get the latest x-rated material,” says the married man.

And if people encounter a porn-block, Sugiono says, they can just ask Uncle Google for help to find ways of getting what they desire.

Sugiono also shared that some local providers still allowed access to download porn.

“You may not be able to find porn links with provider A, but when you try others, they may give you access [to pornographic content],” said the man, who had been watching porn since junior high school.

Using the same method of access, another porn enthusiast who also goes by the fictitious name Baim, admits that when he was lucky, he could access websites that offered a variety of pornographic films without any hassle.

“I think some providers still grant you the access to the banned sites,” the 37-year-old freelancer said.

It is believed Arifinto must have had a similar experience. The legislator claimed he had received an emailed link from someone when he tried to access the Internet using local provider IM2.

Responding to the allegation, IM2 admitted the filters set by the government and the company had their weaknesses, as they could not keep up with the number of new pornographic websites appearing popping up on the Internet every day.

IM2 corporate communication head Adrian Prasanto told the media that the company’s database was only capable of filtering two million websites with pornographic content, which is far below the rate of creation of Web pages on the Internet. It is said that 24 million new pages containing pornographic content are created every year.

House of transparency: Dangdut singer Maria Eva (right) and her lawyer Ruhut Sitompul give a press conference on her love affair with legislator Yahya Zaini of the Golkar Party. A sex video featuring the singer and legislator was posted on the Internet in 2006. JP
Given the gap between these numbers, it is believed IM2 is not the only local Internet provider dealing with this issue.

Actually, experts and media observers have warned the government it would be “virtually impossible” to ban websites with pornographic content, even if the government spent the $110 million it has allocated toward this objective.

Even an official from the Communications and Information Ministry admitted the government’s attempts to ban pornographic content were hitting a brick wall.

Official Hendri Subiyakto told The Jakarta Post recently that for every porn site blocked, a new site with a different name and different URL was created.

The ministry’s spokesperson Gatot S. Dewa Broto also told the Post the government didn’t have enough staff to monitor the Internet for pornographic content.

He added the ministry only had 40 employees watching Internet traffic for the whole country, way less than China and its 30,000 government employees tasked with the same objective.

But the government, Gatot says, has insisted it would do its best to continue blocking access to all pornographic sites in the country despite all the system’s shortcomings.

Moral court: Popular singer Nazriel Irham aka Ariel Peterpan reacts as the Bandung District Court’s judge reads the verdict. Ariel was sentenced to 3.5 years in jail and Rp 250 million for providing and distributing a sex videotape involving him. JP/Arya Dipa
In the end, it is the government’s stubbornness and the loopholes in the system that make almost everyone in this country a criminal.

These criminals are actually simply people taking advantage of the flaws in the government’s filtering system to access pornographic content from the Internet.

In their defense, these outlaws say it would be better if the government focused on addressing more urgent issues rather than engage in a so-called mission impossible.

“You can never control the Internet. It would be better for the government to do more important things like fight corruption or poverty,” said Sugiono, one of many outlaws.

Hi bro,
A review on Stadium from the internet.

Stadium (Jalan Hayam Wuruk)

Best disco in Jakarta for me, Stadium can be extremely crowded on week-ends and for special events. It has four flours, each supposedly with different themes but tribal techno/progressive is dominant. Stadium is big enough to get you lost and so dark you could not recognize your mom if she was dancing 1 meter away from you.

The atmosphere inside the club is unique: A melting-pot of human misery with an underground feel and with drugs and prostitutes easily available (just ask the waiters). You will find all kind of people partying hard in Stadium: taxi drivers, socialites, bosses, students, expatriates, etc...As it is open until very late in the morning (9am during the week, later during the weekend), it is where all the nightlife ends in Jakarta, once all the other bars and clubs have closed. It has the reputation of staying open 60 hours non-stop from Friday to Monday morning, but this is true only for the karaoke.

If you come for the music, you will need to go to the 4th floor, the famous "lantai empat". Most foreigners stay on the left of the podium, near the DJ. Many gays are just below and the rest of the dance floor is mostly packed with young people. On the corners, in the dark, dealers, prostitutes and pimps. Older clients usually go downstair in the karaoke room and take ectasy/shabu-shabu with some girls. The crowd is at best on Sundays afternoon I think, because many youngsters who do not have permission to spend the night out clubbing do it during the day.

Great DJs came here, in particular Ame and Luciano, plus some Ibiza DJ such as DJ Pippy. It is currently hosting more and more international DJs, at least once a month or two.

The owner of Stadium has a few other places, more specifically massage parlours and karaoke, namely Malioboro, Beverly Hills and Sumo. It has also shares in the restaurant and club Kampus.

Our french blog has more photos and more infos about Stadium and nightlife in Jakarta: Click here! and click here!

Safety in Stadium:
As with other nightclubs in North Jakarta, most of the clubbers inside Stadium take drugs, in particular ecstasy. Beer is enough for me, but if you decide to take something stronger, you have to know about the potential risks. There are police raids occasionally, but the management of Stadium is usually informed before they occur and they can prevent anybody to deal inside its premises on these days. People can get caught more easily outside the club, and therefore you should be extremely discreet and you should not keep anything on you when you leave the building. The worst thing that could happen to you is having your urine tested, and it happened (see this news article to know more about drugs in Indonesia).

4000 or 5000 people can fit in the whole club, but there is only 1 fire exit, so pray hard and nothing will happen. Pickpockets are another safety issue, with the primary target being cell-phones left in the rear pocket of your pants... you may be high, but others aren't and they are much aware that you are an easy prey..

At last, the taxis located just outside of the club should be avoided at any cost. Walk along Hayam Wuruk for at least 200 meters, then catch a Blue Bird or an Express.

Update July 2009: There were a few people injured and one dead in a fight that took place in Stadium. Apparently, the attack was led by a group of young people in white shirts who wanted to close down the place. In spite of that, I don't think it's unsafe to go there by yourself, the biggest danger you might encounter is being ripped off by a taxi driver.

Update March 2011:
As some readers commented, there are indeed some nude dancers in Stadium now.. I took a photo that I voluntarily censored:

Hi bro,
Something I got from the internet, might something interesting reading.

What Do Indonesian Girls Look Like?

Some of the readers of this blog have never been to Indonesia. They are preparing a business trip or an expatriation here and they wonder about the nightlife in Jakarta. Surprisingly, the first question men ask me usually before arriving is not about their housing, their kid's school or the number of medical facilities.

No, the question I get the most is this one: "Are the Indonesian girls pretty?"

Western people can rarely differentiate two Asian girls: Ask anybody in Europe what is the difference between a Thai girl and a Korean girl, I bet you they will not be able to answer that. Yet, after many years spent in Indonesia, I can proudly say that I will recognize an Indonesian girl very easily, and if I'm wrong it will mean the girl is from Malaysia.

Malay-Indo girls are very different from other Asian girls: Apart from the long black hair and the tiny body, they are easy to recognize for many reasons that are hard to explain: It's a combination of different elements, but to sum up, I would say that on average Indonesian girls have a darker skin, larger eyes, thicker eyebrows, a small nose and a fantastic smile.

There are different kind of Indonesian girls of course, and I will give an example of the most typical girls you have a good chance to meet:

The Jilbab girl: (Photo Credit: Rikie Rizza)
Except in Jakarta and in Christian or Hindu areas, the Jilbab is a very common sight in Indonesia. If you go in the country's provinces, at least 1/3rd of the girls will use one. There, girls usually hide skin from their bodies too by wearing jeans and long sleeves shirts. The jilbab is coulorful most of the time, but do not let us see any hair.

In Jakarta, girls are more liberal. The typical middle class girl is 1m60, slim but not skinny, and she wears jeans + a T-shirt that covers a shoulders. Since there are so many counterfeit products, it is not surprising to see girls carrying a Louis Vuitton. In malls like Mangga Dua Square or in the buses, you will see a lot of them, looking simple, but pretty (Photo Credit: Moriza):

In the bars and nightclubs, there are a few broad types of girls:

The fashionistas/models/selebriti/socialites and all the girls who wish they were like them. You will meet them in X2 or Dragonfly. Many are half Chinese or mixed expat/indo, and you will see their skin is whiter than other Indonesian girls. The great thing with Jakarta is that you actually have a window of opportunity to date models and actresses, even if you are a very average man. Many reasons can explain why Indonesian girls like so much being with expats, but one thing is sure, if you are decent looking, you stand a chance with everyone in Jakarta. Those girls may look like these (in the photo, Ratu Felisha, who dated a friend of mine by the way):

You also have in this category the upper class clubbing girl: Very sexy but never trashy, perfect make-up and hairdo (Photo Credit: Thanks John)

The bargirls are different in the South (Blok M and the 5-stars hotels bar) and the North (Stadium, etc): In the South, they are trying a bit too hard to be sexy and they tend to show off with expensive accessories their boyfriends bought them. It will sound like a cliché but it's true: 90% of them smoke Menthol cigarettes. In the north, they often have a black (or at least a unicolor) mini-skirt, whitening cream on the face, and maybe a Nokia on their hands.

That would be mean to put some photos of girls here and imply they are prostitutes so I will let you imagine the picture. For the skirt, it's something like that (Photo Credit: Vabio Aurelio)

The Balinese girl, in my opinion, is a concept of its own: Balinese girls are very difficult to go out with compared to Javanese girls. They are not as sexy but they are exactly what we imagine the exotic girl is like (Photo Credit, for this photo plus the first one in the article: Sukandia).

The SPG (Sales Promotion Girl), and her friends the PR (Public Relations) and the GRO (Guest Relation Officer) are middle class, very cute girls who use their charms to promote whatever they are paid to promote (Photo Credit: Basi Banget):

At last, the Party Girl, especially in Jakarta, is a fun girl to hang out with, one you will not very long to fall in love with because she is beautiful and because she makes you feel alive:

Overall, girls in Indonesia are stunning and it's difficult not to fall in love quickly upon arrival. Actually I think this will be your main problem: Avoid falling in love too quickly, before you've got a clear understanding of how the relationships work in Indonesia.

I hope now you have a clearer idea of what do Indonesian girls look like. Of course each of them is unique, but I'm sure expats who've lived in Jakarta will agree that there is an Indo style.

Hi bro,
This is from travel.state.gov
A quick read might helpful, enjoy.

December 14, 2010
COUNTRY DESCRIPTION: Indonesia is an independent republic consisting of more than 17,500 islands spread over 3,400 miles along the Equator. The main islands are Java, Sumatra, Bali, Kalimantan (Borneo), Sulawesi (Celebes), Papua, Halmahera, and Seram. The capital city of Jakarta lies in the lowlands of West Java, the most populated island. The country has approximately 246,000,000 people and more than 300 ethnic groups.

Indonesia's geographic location and topography make the country prone to natural disasters, especially seismic upheaval due to its location on the "Ring of Fire", an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin. Indonesia is a developing country with a growing economy and severe infrastructure shortcomings. Half of the population lives on under U.S. $2 per day. However, it has many tourist destinations associated with the country's cultural diversity and natural resources. To have a safe and pleasant stay in Indonesia, U.S. travelers and residents must be aware of their surroundings, take personal responsibility for their wellbeing and be prepared to care for themselves in an emergency. Read the Department of State Background Notes on Indonesia for additional information.

SMART TRAVELER ENROLLMENT PROGRAM (STEP)/EMBASSY LOCATION: If you are going to live or visit Indonesia, please take the time to tell our Embassy in Jakarta or Consulate in Surabaya about your trip. If you enroll, we can keep you up to date with important safety and security announcements. It will also help your friends and family get in touch with you in an emergency. Here's the link to the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.

Local embassy information is available below and at the Department of State's list of embassies and consulates.

U.S. Embassy Jakarta is located at Medan Merdeka Selatan 5, Jakarta 10110; telephone: (62)(21) 3435-9000; fax (62)(21) 385-7189. The most secure international mail address is: U.S. Embassy Jakarta, FPO AP 96520 USA. The consular section of the Embassy can be reached by e-mail. Instructions on how to receive SMS emergency messages on your cell phone can be found on the Embassy's FAQ page.

U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya is at Jalan Raya Dr. Sutomo 33; telephone: (62) (31) 295-6400; fax (62) (31) 567-4492, after-hours duty officer (62) (811) 334-183. The consulate can also be reached by e-mail. The consulate should be the first point of contact for assistance to U.S. citizens who are present or residing in the Indonesian provinces of East Java, Nusa Tenggara Timor, Nusa Tenggara Barat, all of Sulawesi and North and South Maluku.

There is a Consular Agency in Bali at Jalan Hayam Wuruk 188, Denpasar, Bali; telephone: (62) (361) 233-605; fax (62) (361) 222-426; or contact by e-mail. The U.S. Consulate in Surabaya is an alternate contact for U.S. citizens in Bali.

The American Presence Post in Medan, North Sumatra, provides only emergency assistance to U.S. citizens and does not offer routine consular services. U.S. citizens needing emergency consular assistance in Sumatra should call (62) (61) 451-9000.

ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS: You will need a passport valid for at least six months following the date of arrival. Indonesian authorities regularly deny entry to all foreigners who arrive with passports expiring in less than six months. The U.S. Embassy cannot obtain entry permission for U.S. citizens with expiring passports. If you arrive and your passport has less than six months validity, Indonesian authorities will require you to depart Indonesia immediately to obtain a new U.S. passport elsewhere; you will not be allowed to renew your passport here and follow-up later with Indonesian authorities. Also, if your passport does not have the required 6 month's validity remaining on your passport, you may be denied boarding at your point of origin or at a transit point en route. Generally, you should expect to wait two weeks for a U.S. passport to be issued outside of the U.S.

You are required to have a visa to enter Indonesia, obtained either beforehand or, in limited circumstances, on arrival. Tourist passport holders traveling for private purposes may apply for a 30-day visitor visa on arrival at the airports in Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Manado, Biak, Ambon, Balikpapan, Pontianak, Kupang, Batam, and South Sumatra. Visas-on-Arrival are also available at a limited number of seaports, including the Batam and Bintan ferry terminals opposite Singapore but are unavailable at any land border crossing. They are only for private, temporary business or pleasure visits. Travel for other purposes requires the appropriate Indonesian visa before arrival. Visas-on-Arrival are valid for 30 days and cost U.S. $25. A Visa-on-Arrival may be extended one time only. An onward/return ticket is required to apply for a Visa-on-Arrival at these ports of entry. The Indonesian Embassy website indicates that Visas-on-Arrival are unavailable to government travelers who want to enter Indonesia on a diplomatic or official passport for an official purpose or mission. For details on Visas-on-Arrival and other visa information please visit the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia website.

If you are entering Indonesia through Bali, you must to have two entirely blank passport pages in your passport. If you are entering through other ports of entry, you must have at least one blank page. Indonesian immigration inspectors do not consider amendment pages in your passport as blank pages. If your passport is nearly full, be sure to obtain extra blank passport pages before you travel - go to How to Add Extra Pages to Your U.S. Passport. If you don't meet Indonesian entry criteria properly, you may be denied entry on the spot with no recourse and put on the next available flight departing Indonesia.

Please be advised that Indonesian entry and visa procedures may be inconsistently applied at different ports of entry, and when faced with making a decision, Indonesian authorities usually make the more conservative, restrictive decision. Entry requirements are subject to change at the sole discretion of the Indonesian authorities, a process over which the U.S. government has no control.

You may apply for a visa at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, DC, or at an Indonesian consulate elsewhere in the United States. In some cases, you may also apply at Indonesian embassies and consulates in other countries. If you are traveling overseas and wish to apply for an Indonesian visa, you should inquire with the local Indonesian embassy in the country where you are currently traveling. For up-to-date information, travelers may contact the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia: 2020 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington DC 20036, phone: (202) 775-5200, or at Indonesian Consulates in Los Angeles(213) 383-5126; San Francisco(415) 474-9571; Chicago(312) 920-1880; New York(212) 879-0600; and Houston(713) 785-1691. Visit the Embassy of Indonesia website for the most current visa information.

Indonesia strictly enforces its immigration/visa requirements. Travelers who overstay the date stamped in their Visa-on-Arrival are subject to a fine of 200,000 Rupiah, approximately U.S. $22, per day, and other sanctions. Westerners, including U.S. citizens, have been jailed for visa violations and/or overstays. Violators may also be subject to substantial fines and/or deportation from Indonesia for immigration and visa violations. Immigration officials have also detained foreigners for conducting work, academic, or other non-tourist activities while on visitor status. Even gratis volunteer work with local or international NGOs is not permitted on visitor status. Penalties for such immigration/visa violations have included a prison sentence of up to 5 years and a fine of Rupiah 25 million. Travelers should contact an Indonesian consular office to determine the appropriate visa category before traveling to Indonesia. Please consult the Criminal Penalties section below for further information.

All airline passengers, including children, diplomats, and officials, are subject to a departure tax, which must be paid in Rupiah, cash only. The international departure tax as of February 2010 is 150,000 Rupiah in Jakarta and varies at other international airports. The domestic departure tax in Jakarta is 30,000 Rupiah and also varies elsewhere.

The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to or foreign residents of Indonesia. The Indonesian Government screens incoming passengers in response to reported outbreaks of pandemic illnesses.

THREATS TO SAFETY AND SECURITY: Since 2005, the Indonesian police and security forces have disrupted a number of terrorist cells, including Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), a U.S. government-designated terrorist organization that carried out several bombings at various times from 2002 to 2009 and caused outbreaks of violence elsewhere. In July 2009, JI elements bombed two Western hotels in Jakarta, killing nine Indonesians and foreigners and injuring over 50, including six U.S. citizens. Indonesia's counterterrorism efforts have been ongoing and largely successful, killing JI leader Noordin Top and some of his associates in late 2009. Between November 2009 and November 2010, security forces have arrested 99 individuals on terrorism-related charges. However, violent elements in Indonesia continue to demonstrate a willingness and ability to carry out violent attacks with little or no warning.

Extremists may target both official and private interests, including hotels, nightclubs, shopping areas and restaurants outside of tourist hotels which cater to Muslims during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Whether at work, pursuing daily activities, and/or while traveling, you should be vigilant and prudent at all times. Monitor local news reports, vary your routes and times, and maintain a low profile. Be sure to consider the security and safety preparedness of hotels, residences, restaurants, and entertainment or recreational venues that you frequent.

In November 2009, unknown assailants shot at foreigners in Banda Aceh, North Sumatra, an area that was devastated by the 2004 tsunami and the scene of a long-running separatist conflict that ended in 2005. The gunfire wounded a European development worker. In the same area, a house occupied by U.S. citizen teachers was targeted and hit by gunfire, but there were no U.S. citizen casualties.

Indonesian security forces are engaged in violently suppressing the Free Papua Movement (OPM). However, separatists in Papua continue to conduct occasional, violent attacks against police and civilians in the province that resulted in the deaths of and injuries to local residents and expatriate workers.

Be aware that a real or even perceived offense may generate a violent response from local people. For example, in June 2008, two U.S. citizens in western Sumatra were beaten after they reportedly accused a local man of theft. In the same month, another U.S. citizen in Sumatra was threatened by members of a local mosque when he complained about being awakened from his sleep by the morning call to prayer.

Indonesia's location on the "Ring of Fire" results in often severe seismic events that pose grave threats, and disrupt daily life and regional air travel. There is little warning and Indonesian emergency response capabilities are limited in the best of circumstances. U.S. citizens must constantly prepare for unforeseen emergencies when considering travel near or life in Indonesia.

If you have an Indonesian cell phone you may register to get U.S. Embassy emergency text message alerts by composing a text message on your cell phone utilizing the following format:

REGALRTLASTNAME#FIRSTNAME, e.g. REGALRTBROWN#DAVID;
Send to 9388 from your Indonesian cell phone;
You will receive a text message confirmation of registration;
You will be charged RP1000 per SMS Alert Message.

Please update your passports and important personal papers in case you must depart Indonesia quickly in an emergency. Travel distances, poor communications, and an inadequate infrastructure make it extremely difficult for the Embassy to respond to U.S. citizen emergencies. Many parts of Indonesia (including many tourist destinations) are isolated and difficult to reach or contact.

Take some time before travel to improve your personal security - things are not the same everywhere as they are in the United States. Here are some useful tips for traveling safely abroad.

CRIME: Crime can be a problem in some major metropolitan areas in Indonesia. Crimes of opportunity such as pick-pocketing and theft occur throughout the country. If you are in Jakarta and Surabaya, hire a taxi either at a major hotel or shopping center queue, or by calling or hailing a reputable taxi company, such as Silver Bird, Blue Bird or White Express. If you are arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, use only these taxis obtained at a designated taxi queue or clearly marked taxi stand. Politely decline all offers of help from touts or anyone who approaches you. Major hotels have staff on duty to offer safe meet-and-greet service at airports and can also direct their hotel guests to a reliable taxi. It is best to request meet and greet services from your hotel in advance. Add about 25,000 Rupiah to the metered fare for required airport taxes and toll road fees. Depending on traffic, a minimum metered fare is 150,000-200,000 Rupiah from Soekarno-Hatta airport to central Jakarta. Criminals in Jakarta regularly rob customers in taxis painted to look like taxis from reputable companies; booking taxis by telephone directly from the company or through hotels is the best way to avoid falling victim to this scam.

Indonesian police have noted an upward trend in burglaries and armed robberies in Jakarta, an increase of 25 percent in 2010, particularly in wealthier areas where expatriates tend to live. The best defense is to proactively take personal responsibility for your own security: know the layout of your dwelling, have someone at home at all times, discuss security procedures with your family and household staff, and know your neighborhood.

Claiming to act in the name of religious or moral standards, certain extremist groups have, on occasion, attacked nightspots and places of entertainment. Most of these attacks have sought to destroy property rather than to injure individuals. International news events can sometimes trigger anti-American or anti-Western demonstrations.

Credit card fraud and theft is a serious and growing problem in Indonesia, particularly for Westerners. Travelers should minimize use of credit cards and instead use cash. If used, credit card numbers should be closely safeguarded at all times. There have been many reports of shop, restaurant, and hotel staff writing down the credit card numbers of customers and then making purchases using the credit card number after the card owner has departed the retail location. Travelers should also avoid using credit cards for online transactions at Internet cafes and similar venues. Travelers who decide to use credit cards should monitor their credit card activity carefully and immediately report any unauthorized use to their financial institution. ATM cards have been skimmed and cloned, resulting in bank accounts being drained. If you choose to use an ATM, exercise the same level of caution you would in the United States when using unfamiliar ATM machines and monitor your statements closely. Selecting tour guides, hotels, and business partners based on their reputation, competence, and ability to help can be very useful when considering a stay in Indonesia.

You are encouraged to carry a copy of your U.S. passport with you at all times so that if questioned by local officials, proof of identity and proof of U.S. citizenship are readily available. If you are arrested or detained, formal notification of the arrest is normally provided in writing to the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, a process that can take several weeks. If detained, telephone the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, or the nearest U.S. consular office immediately.

"Drink-spiking" incidents have been of increasing concern as there have been many reports of males being targeted for this ruse in clubs and nightspots. One drug used in these incidents is believed to be an animal tranquilizer, and its effects are extremely powerful. Besides putting the victim in an unconscious state for a long time, the side effects include memory loss, nausea, headaches, and vomiting. Although most of these incidents involve male victims, it is important to remember that females have been victimized in the past with "Date-Rape" drugs. Local, "home brew" alcoholic drinks may also be spiked. The best advice is: do not go out alone; do not leave drinks unattended; drink brand name beverages; and drink responsibly, in moderation. Even though alcohol in this, the world's largest Muslim nation, is widely available, public inebriation is highly frowned upon.

Maritime piracy in Indonesian waters continues, although incidents have decreased steadily in recent years. The most recent reports are of thefts of valuables or cargo from boats that are in port and not at sea. Regardless, before traveling by sea, especially in the Straits of Malacca between the Riau Province and Singapore and in the waters north of Sulawesi and Kalimantan, review the current security situation with local authorities.

Don't buy counterfeit and pirated goods, even if they are widely available. Not only are the bootleg items illegal in the United States, if you purchase them you may also be breaking local law.

VICTIMS OF CRIME: If you or someone you know becomes the victim of a crime abroad, you should contact the local police and the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate (see the Department of State's list of embassies and consulates). If your passport is stolen we can help you replace it. For violent crimes such as assault and rape, we can help you find appropriate medical care, contact family members or friends, and help them send you money if you need it. Although the investigation and prosecution of the crime are solely the responsibility of local authorities, consular officers can help you understand the local criminal justice process and find an attorney if necessary.

The local equivalents to the "911" emergency telephone line in Indonesia are 110 for police, 113 for fire, and 118 for ambulance. While these numbers exist, they are not always answered. It is often more effective to physically go to Indonesian authorities to ask for their help rather than to wait for emergency services to respond to your phone call. There are sets of local direct emergency numbers in each district and you should learn and keep these emergency numbers at hand. However all Indonesian emergency services, police, fire and ambulance, if available at all, are often rudimentary at best.

Please see our information on victims of crime, including possible victim compensation programs in the United States.

CRIMINAL PENALTIES: While you are traveling in Indonesia, you are subject to its laws even if you are a U.S. citizen. Foreign laws and legal systems can be vastly different than our own. There are also some things that might be legal in the country you visit, but still illegal in the United States, and you can be prosecuted under U.S. law if you buy pirated goods. In Indonesia, you may be taken in for questioning if you don't have your passport with you. It is also illegal to take pictures of certain buildings, and driving under the influence could land you immediately in jail. Engaging in sexual conduct with children or using or disseminating child pornography in a foreign country is a crime prosecutable in the United States. If you break local laws in Indonesia, your U.S. passport won't help you avoid arrest or prosecution. It's very important to know what's legal and what's not where you are going.

Certain areas of Indonesia are under Shariah law; see the section under Special Circumstances.

In March 2008, the Indonesian parliament passed a bill criminalizing the access of internet sites containing violent or pornographic material. Anyone found guilty of the new offense could be jailed for up to three years or have to pay a heavy fine.

Engaging in sexual conduct with children, using, and/or disseminating child pornography is a crime prosecutable in the United States regardless of the country where the activity occurs. The Indonesian child protection law imposes up to 15 years in prison for those convicted of engaging in sexual contact with a child, and the anti-trafficking in persons law imposes 15 years in prison for anyone engaging in sex with a victim of trafficking.

Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Indonesia are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines. A life sentence or the death penalty can be given in cases of drug trafficking; several foreigners have been sentenced to death in recent years. One U.S. citizen was given a life sentence for drug trafficking. Indonesian prisons are harsh and do not meet Western standards. Many prisoners are required to supplement their prison diets and clothing with funds from relatives. Medical and dental care in Indonesian prisons, while available, is below Western standards, and access to medical testing to diagnose illness as well as medications to treat conditions are often difficult to obtain.

Based on the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, bilateral agreements with certain countries, and customary international law, if you are arrested in Indonesia, you have the option to request that the police, prison officials, or other authorities alert the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate of your arrest, and to have communications from you forwarded to the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES: The Regional Security Officer of the U.S. Embassy must receive prior notice from U.S. government employees of their travel to Papua, Banda Aceh, Central Sulawesi, and Maluku. Separate pre-travel procedures apply to U.S. Armed Forces personnel who intend to travel to Indonesia for any reason. For further information, please see the DOD Foreign Clearance Guide.

Accessibility: Indonesia enacted laws in 1997, 1998, 2004, 2007, and 2008 regarding accessibility for the disabled. However, except for buildings constructed under international standards, most public places and transportation facilities are not accessible, and applicable laws are not enforced. Persons with disabilities will face severe difficulties in Indonesia as walkways, road crossings, rest rooms, and tourist and other areas are not equipped with accommodating features.

Shariah law: Shariah law is defined by the Islamic faith. In Indonesia, it is enforced in Aceh, northern Sumatra, by a separate police force. In other areas, it exists unofficially, enforced by local residents. When enforced, Shariah law technically applies to all, but implementation of Shariah law in Indonesia is uneven, processes are opaque, and enforcement can be arbitrary and severe. Shariah authorities rarely confront foreigners about violations of Shariah law, but this has occurred. Visitors to all areas are encouraged to respect local tradition, dress modestly, and seek guidance from local police if confronted by Shariah authorities. Many women, Indonesian and foreign, carry a scarf to drape around their head while traveling in Aceh, although wearing a headscarf is not compulsory, and foreign women are not expected to wear one. Men usually refrain from wearing pants that end above the knee. Muslim women in West Aceh are forbidden to wear pants, but this requirement does not apply to foreign or non-Muslim women. The Shariah concept of 'khalwat' forbids an unmarried man and unmarried woman (who are not close relatives) to be alone together in secluded areas, such as beaches or parks. Unmarried couples should beware of the likely applicability of Shariah law when staying in rural or more conservative areas and should consult local residents to avoid trouble.

Natural Disasters: Many areas of Indonesia are at high risk for natural disasters due to the country's geographic location and topography. If you are planning hikes or other outdoor activities in Indonesia, obtain up-to-date information on local conditions, travel with a reputable local guide, have overseas medical insurance, and carry a local mobile phone. Obey instructions from security and emergency personnel, and do not enter restricted areas. Organized and trained rescue services are rudimentary in populated areas and do not exist in remote areas. If you get into trouble, you may find yourself at great risk even if you can communicate your plight.

Earthquakes and Tsunamis: The Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami in December 2004 killed more than 130,000 people and left over 37,000 missing in Aceh and North Sumatra. Dozens of strong aftershocks were felt, and magnitude 7.8 and 7.1 tremors were recorded during the following two days. In January 2009, a magnitude 7.7 quake struck the north coast of Papua between the cities of Sorong and Manokwari causing deaths and heavy damage. In September 2009, magnitude 7.6 and 7.9 earthquakes struck the towns of Jambi and Padang in Sumatra, causing widespread damage and 700 deaths and many more injuries. Another earthquake in the Mentawai islands on October 25, 2010, caused a tsunami which killed over 450 locals and displaced up to tens of thousands for several weeks. Because of the islands' remoteness, emergency response personnel needed several days to evacuate tourists and bring in emergency relief supplies. In places where tsunamis are a potential threat, you should head inland for high ground immediately when large tremors are felt as tsunami warning systems may not be operable or reports delayed; be sure to establish an escape route beforehand. The city of Jakarta lacks an earthquake plan, according to its own 2010 report, which is a common problem replicated throughout the country.

Volcanoes: Mt. Merapi, a volcano near Yogyakarta, erupted with massive pyroclastic flows from April to early July 2006 and again in late 2010, disrupting air travel as far away as Jakarta and causing hundreds of casualties in the volcano's vicinity. Mount Sinabung in the Tanah Karo Highlands of North Sumatra erupted on August 28, 2010. The eruption caused the evacuation of 30,000 people but only one fatality.

Flooding and Landslides: These frequently follow heavy rains, and travelers should exercise caution both in and outside of cities. On the roads, be aware of the possibility of land slippage, road washouts, and potholes.

Fires: Fire departments lack modern equipment and training. 70 percent of Jakarta's fire hydrants are inoperative, and the city fire department is only manned at fifty percent of its recommended level. Outside of Jakarta, fire prevention is no better. Occupants of high floors and crowded markets are at great risk, since fire departments are unable to reach those places.

Environmental Quality: Air quality outside of Jakarta and other major cities is acceptable most of the time. However, within Indonesia's major cities, air quality can range from "unhealthy for sensitive groups" to "unhealthy". Some expatriate residents of Jakarta have tested positive for highly elevated levels of carbon monoxide in their blood. The air and water quality in Jakarta is particularly polluted. Individuals susceptible to chronic respiratory illnesses should consult with their doctor before spending significant amounts of time in Jakarta. Open burning of rain forests continues, although to a lesser degree than in the early 2000s. Water is not potable. A 2008 study showed that 100 percent of Jakarta's water is contaminated by fecal coliform bacteria (see below). Only bottled water should be consumed. Sewage and drainage systems are incomplete.

Scuba Diving, Snorkeling and Surfing: Exercise prudence when scuba diving, snorkeling, or surfing and when visiting remote tourist locations. Strong seasonal undercurrents in coastal waters pose a fatal threat to surfers and swimmers; every year, several U.S. citizens drown in unstable water. Surfers and divers should also be aware that local fishermen in coastal waters may use explosives and poisons to catch fish, although this practice is illegal in Indonesia. Rescue services are mostly ad hoc and cannot be relied upon. Dangerous marine life such as cnidaria (jellyfish) and physalia (Portugese Man-O-War) are common, and divers and swimmers should be prepared to provide first aid if encountered. Divers should contact the Divers Alert Network (DAN) and obtain diving medical insurance in the event decompression is required as air evacuation is usually the only way to get to the nearest decompression chamber. DAN has a large network of dive physicians that are available for consultation and emergency response to its members.

Papua: All travelers to Papua, whether traveling as a private citizen or in an official capacity, must obtain prior approval to travel from the Indonesian government. Low-intensity inter-tribal warfare exists in Papua and has caused numerous deaths and injuries. Travelers should strictly avoid situations involving armed tribal members. Anti-government protests have caused numerous deaths and injuries and led to temporary closures of the airport in Timika. In 2009 and January 2010, sniper fire from unknown attackers on the private road from Kuala Kencana to Tembagapura caused several casualties, including deaths, of government forces, local workers, and expatriates.

Mountain Hiking: Hikers on Puncak Jaya or other mountains in Papua and elsewhere in Indonesia should organize their trip through a reputable tour operator and ensure that they have firm, realistic, primary and backup plans for climbing down the mountain. In the past, some local tour operators have abandoned climbers after they reached the summit. Climbers should be aware that transiting private or commercial properties on the way down the mountain is considered trespassing and not a safe or legal alternative to a proper plan. Hikers should assume that they will be completely on their own in case of any emergency. Hikers should be aware that severe seismic events occur frequently and without notice.

Teaching English in Indonesia: If you would like to teach English in Indonesia, carefully review employment contracts before traveling to Indonesia. Most contracts include a monetary penalty for early termination. English schools may hold passports to insure that the employee complies with the terms of the contract or pays the appropriate penalty. There have been many U.S. citizens who were unable to depart Indonesia after having terminated their employment contracts early because their employer would not release their passports.

Commercial Disputes: If you are involved in commercial or property matters, be aware that the business environment is complex, and formal, regulated, transparent dispute settlement mechanisms are not fully developed. Local and foreign businesses often cite corruption and ineffective courts as serious problems. Business and regulatory disputes, which would be generally considered administrative or civil matters in the United States, may in some cases be treated as criminal cases in Indonesia. It can be challenging to resolve trade disputes. For more information, please refer to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Commercial Guide for Indonesia.

Internet Purchases: U.S. citizens frequently may be defrauded when purchasing goods by Internet from Indonesian suppliers whom the buyer has not met personally.

Currency: The widespread use of counterfeit currency causes banks, exchange facilities, and most commercial establishments to not accept U.S. currency that is worn, defaced, torn, or issued before 1996.

Dual Nationality: Indonesian law does not recognize dual nationality for adults over 18 years of age. Because of this law, U.S. citizens who are also documented as Indonesian nationals may experience difficulties with immigration formalities in Indonesia. Holding dual citizenship may also hamper the U.S. Embassy's ability to provide consular protection to dual national U.S. citizens. In addition to being subject to all Indonesian laws affecting U.S. citizens, dual nationals may also be subject to other laws that impose special obligations on Indonesian citizens. In July 2006, the Indonesian Parliament passed new legislation allowing children under age 18 to hold foreign as well as Indonesian citizenship. Parents whose children hold both Indonesian and U.S. citizenship continue to experience difficulties with entry and exit immigration procedures.

Transportation: There has been a rapid rise in all manners of public and private transportation within Indonesia. New private airlines have begun operations over the past several years, as have new bus and ferry lines. Air, ferry, and road accidents resulting in fatalities, injuries, and significant damage are common. While all forms of transportation are ostensibly regulated in Indonesia, oversight is spotty, equipment tends to be less well maintained than that operated in the United States, amenities do not typically meet Western standards, and rescue/emergency response is notably lacking. Travelers by boat or ferry should not board before confirming that adequate personal floatation devices are provided.

Customs Regulations: Indonesian customs authorities strictly regulate the import and export of items such as prescription medicines and foreign language materials or videotapes/discs. You should contact the Embassy of Indonesia in Washington or Indonesian consulates elsewhere in the United States for specific information about customs requirements. Transactions involving such products may be illegal, and bringing them back to the United States may result in forfeiture and/or fines.

Please see our Customs Information.

MEDICAL FACILITIES AND HEALTH CARE INFORMATION: The general level of sanitation and health care in Indonesia is far below U.S. standards. Some routine medical care is available in all major cities, although most expatriates leave the country for all but the simplest medical procedures. Psychological and psychiatric services are limited throughout Indonesia. Medical procedures requiring hospitalization and/or medical evacuation to locations with acceptable medical care, such as Singapore, Australia, or the United States can cost thousands of dollars. Physicians and hospitals often expect immediate cash payment or sizable deposits before offering medical care. A list of English-speaking doctors and hospitals is available via the U.S. Embassy Jakarta's website. Many places in Indonesia are inaccessible to the physically handicapped. What sidewalks that exist are uneven and difficult to navigate, and many buildings do not have elevators.

Ambulance services are individually run by hospitals and clinics. Indonesian ambulance attendants lack paramedical training equivalent to U.S. standards, and there is no reliable emergency ambulance service in Indonesia. If you are staying in Indonesia for an extended period, especially if you have known health problems, you are advised to investigate private ambulance services in your area, and to provide family and close contacts with the direct telephone number(s) of their preferred service. Traffic congestion is a significant problem in urban Indonesia and roads are generally in poor condition in rural Indonesia, so ambulance transport, if it exists at all, even over short distances can take hours.

Community sanitation and public health programs are inadequate throughout Indonesia and subject to frequent breakdowns. Water and air pollution and traffic congestion have rapidly increased with the unstructured growth of major cities. Almost all maladies of the developing world are endemic to Indonesia, and immediate treatment is problematic. Residents are subject to water- and food-borne illnesses such as typhoid, hepatitis, cholera, worms, amebiasis, giardia, cyclospora, and bacterial dysentery. Mosquito-borne dengue fever and tuberculosis exist throughout Indonesia and have been serious in Jakarta. Indonesia has the highest incidence of dengue fever in Asia. Multiple drug-resistant strains of malaria are endemic in some parts of Indonesia but not in metropolitan Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, and Bali; even short stays can be disastrous without malaria prophylaxix. Malaria prophylaxis is highly recommended for travel to malaria-endemic areas outside major cities. Travelers to Sulawesi should be tested for schistosomiasis, whether or not they were exposed to potentially infested waters. Asthma and other respiratory difficulties are common and generally worse in Jakarta than in other areas, exacerbated by the high pollution levels. Skin allergies are also common. Avian (H5N1) and swine (H1N1) influenza are endemic in Indonesia. Rabies is endemic in Indonesia and a particular problem in Bali, where it has caused over 100 deaths from 2008 to 2010. Polio reemerged in Western Java in 2005. Travelers are urged to consult with their personal physicians and to get updated information on prevalent diseases before traveling to Indonesia. Travelers should be current on all recommended immunizations; those planning on traveling extensively should consider the series of three pre-exposure inoculations against rabies. Local pharmacies carry a range of products of variable quality, availability, and cost. Counterfeit pharmaceuticals are a significant risk and U.S. citizens should patronize only reputable pharmacies.

Tap water is not potable. In 2008, Indonesian authorities found that 100 percent of tap water samples from the Jakarta area tested positive for coliform bacteria, as well as high concentrations of toxic chemicals, including lead and mercury. Bottled water should be used for consumption, including for cooking. Factory bottled soft drinks, and juices and milk sold in sealed containers are generally safe. Take extra care preparing fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. If you cannot see refrigerators, expect that any food, especially street food, is preserved with high concentrations of formaldehyde derivatives. Consider that unprocessed or raw food may be unsafe even in higher end establishments. Washing, soaking, peeling, and/or thoroughly cooking food are mandatory procedures to minimize insecticide, bacterial, and parasitic contamination. Gastrointestinal disorders are common. A wide variety of foods are available in local markets and supermarkets, and with some care and effort, it is possible to eat a well-balanced diet.

Car and motorcycle accidents are the primary causes of severe injury to foreigners living and traveling in Indonesia. Defensive driving and use of seatbelts are encouraged. Use of motorcycles and bicycling in traffic are both discouraged. Rh negative blood may be difficult to obtain in an area with very few Westerners. Therefore, it is important to know your blood type and recognize that scarcity may be a problem.

Updated information and links to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are posted on the U.S. Embassy Jakarta's website.

MEDICAL INSURANCE: You can't assume your insurance will go with you when you travel. It's very important to find out BEFORE you leave whether or not your medical insurance will cover you overseas. You need to ask your insurance company two questions:

Does my policy cover me when I'm out of the United States?
Will it cover emergencies such as treatment in a foreign hospital, medical evacuation or an air ambulance?
In many places, doctors and hospitals still expect payment in cash at the time of service. Your regular U.S. health insurance may not cover doctor and hospital visits in other countries. If your policy doesn't provide overseas coverage when you travel, it's a very good idea to take out another one for your trip. For more information, please see our medical insurance overseas page.

TRAFFIC SAFETY AND ROAD CONDITIONS: While in Indonesia, U.S. citizens may encounter road conditions that differ significantly from those in the United States. Traffic in Indonesia is highly dangerous, congested, and undisciplined. Traffic signals are frequently ignored and often in disrepair. The number and variety of vehicles on the road far exceed the capacity of existing roadways. Road conditions vary from good (in the case of toll roads and major city roads) to dangerously poor. Generally, road safety awareness is very low in Indonesia. Buses and trucks are often dangerously overloaded and travel at high speeds. Most roads outside major urban areas have a single lane of traffic in each direction, making passing dangerous. Most Indonesian drivers do not maintain a safe-following distance in a manner familiar to U.S. drivers and tend to pass or maneuver with considerably less margin for error than in the United States. Although traffic in Indonesia moves on the left side of the road, drivers tend to pass on both sides and may use the shoulder for this purpose. It is common for drivers to create extra lanes regardless of the lane markings on the roads. Nails are frequently sprinkled on roads to cause punctures and create business for tire-repair services.

Throughout Indonesia, there is an overabundance of motorcycles claiming the right of way. Many motorcycle drivers weave recklessly in and out of traffic with complete disregard for traffic regulations and simple safety precautions. Throughout the country, motor vehicles share the roads with other forms of transportation such as pedicabs, horse and ox carts, pushcarts, and domestic animals such as cows, sheep, and goats.

Indonesia requires the use of seat belts in front seats; most Indonesian automobiles do not have seat belts in the rear passenger seats. The use of infant and child car seats is uncommon, and it can be very difficult to rent a car seat. Helmets are required for all motorcycle passengers, the laws for which are inconsistently enforced. Passengers often do not wear helmets. Accidents on rented motorcycles constitute the largest cause of death and serious injury among foreign visitors to Indonesia. Given the poor quality of emergency services, an injury considered to be minor in the United States might result in greater bodily harm in Indonesia.

Accidents between a car and a motorcycle are invariably viewed as the fault of the driver of the car. Groups of motorcycle riders will sometimes threaten the driver of a car who is involved in an accident regardless of who is at fault. Expatriates and affluent Indonesians often use professional drivers. All car rental firms provide drivers for a nominal additional fee. Travelers unfamiliar with Indonesian driving conditions are strongly encouraged to hire drivers.

Driving at night can be extremely dangerous outside of major urban areas. Drivers often refuse to use their lights until it is completely dark, and most rural roads are unlit. Sometimes residents in rural areas use road surfaces as public gathering areas, congregating on them after dark.

When an accident involving personal injury occurs, Indonesian law requires both drivers to await the arrival of a police officer to report the accident. Although Indonesian law requires third party insurance, most Indonesian drivers are uninsured, and even when a vehicle is insured, it is common for insurance companies to refuse to pay damages. Nevertheless, foreigners who plan to drive while in Indonesia should ensure they have appropriate insurance coverage and a driver's license. Ambulance service in Indonesia is unreliable, and taxis or private cars are often used to transport the injured to a medical facility. In cases of serious injury to a pedestrian, the driver of the vehicle could be required to help transport the injured person to the hospital. When an accident occurs outside a major city, it may be advisable, before stopping, to drive to the nearest police station to seek assistance.

Please refer to our Road Safety page for more information. Also, we suggest that you visit Indonesia's national tourist office online for road safety information.

AVIATION SAFETY OVERSIGHT: The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has assessed the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation as not being in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards for oversight of Indonesian's air carrier operations. Further information may be found on the FAA's safety assessment page.

Indonesian air carriers continue to experience air incidents and accidents. U.S. citizens traveling to and from Indonesia should fly directly to their destinations on international carriers from countries whose civil aviation authorities meet international aviation safety standards for the oversight of their air carrier operations under the FAA's International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program.

Hi bro,
Something I got from the internet, might something interesting reading.

My humble two cents.
Bro,
That last statements..

Is so true, these girls have their own way to worm into your heart.:)
I felt in love every time I come to Jakarta.

Thanks for the recommendation of the bros here, i decided to visit Malioboro club alone 2 weeks ago. It was indeed an eye opener for me and i would recommend bros who have not tried Jakarta club to try this club.

Price wise for drink is not really cheap though and each lady drink is 50k rp and the girls will dance around you and allow you to touch their breast (if she likes you). Overall i spend over a million rp on drinks and entrance alone.

Best part of it is the playability and quality of the girls there. One of them is a hot dancer who was with me most of the time but we could not agree on a deal for overnight, as i was running short of cash due to my last night stay in JKT. ( i wished i had brought her back cos she is sexy, young and fuckable)

Eventually i brought another young sexy ID girl back who she was with me for a few occasions that night (but butterfly) for 500k rp to my hotel. We fucked for 3 times over the night and even till now she still contact me at times to check when im back in JKT again. I may rtf her in the future if im back in JKT but will prefer to check out other interesting places and ID girls 1st.

I personally think the money is well spent for my virgin JKT club trip and lastly would like to remind all bros that one's man meat may be another another man's poison and you may have different experiences.

Cheers

Hi bro,
Thank you for the great FR, for your first time to Jakarta you pick one of the best place to go to

Have you tried Alexis?

Heard that their Local girls are a bit better looking, but over all I still think Malioboro is much better.

My humble two cents.

Is Jakarta Dangerous?

Many people ask me if Jakarta is a dangerous city or not. I tend to think that it is very safe because after living four years here, I’ve never had a problem except for a few very minor annoyances.

But bad things happened to other people and I want to be as fair as possible in order to give you an objective point of you on whether Jakarta is a dangerous city or not.

Danger is not limited to robbery or crime. To be complete, here is a list of the 10 dangers you may face while staying or living in Jakarta as an expat or foreigner. I also write an estimation of the level of risk.

Safety on the road: High
I think that your biggest threat while being in Jakarta will be dealing with motorized vehicles, whether your are walking, in a car, or in a motorcycle. If you take the taxi for instance, you will notice cars don’t have a safety belt in the back. If you take an ojek (moto-taxi), the driver will give you a shitty helmet and drive recklessly, putting your life in danger every second.
How to avoid it: Take silver bird taxis, go in the passenger seat, avoid taking ojeks, be very careful when walking in Jakarta.

Natural Disaster: High
Flood, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis… Jakarta, as the rest of the country, is prone to natural disasters. In fact, according to the Natural Disaster Risk Index, Indonesia is the world’s second most dangerous nation regarding natural catastrophes after Bangladesh. I don’t think it can impact your stay in Jakarta though, because it is something you cannot really protect yourself from. All you can do is cross your finger and hope that everything will be OK.

Terrorism: Medium to High
I don’t know what I should say about terrorism. It happened in Jakarta and Bali, and even though the government is very active in fighting terrorists, we cannot ignore that new bombings could happen again in Jakarta/Indonesia in the future.
The targets of terrorists have always been places frequented by expats, like embassies, night clubs, restaurants or 5-star hotels. A safe precaution therefore is to avoid too crowded areas.
Some extremist religious groups have been attacking entertainment venues too, especially during religious times of the year like Ramadan. It is quite rare though and they are more scary than dangerous.

Pickpockets: Medium
It is the most common offence in Jakarta affecting expats: Having a small thing stolen while in a bar (usually a phone) or in a crowd. It is not so common either, but it happened to me with a camera, and it happened to a few of my friends, in particular in Stadium nightclub. I had once a problem with a drink that almost made me pass out… The guy I was with may have put something in it, but I’ll never know that for sure.

Robbery: Medium
I don’t have statistics about robbery, but from what I could observe, it involves most of the time the people working in your house: Maids, cooks, guards. It is usually low value items (in my situation, I had all my cleaning products disappearing…), but very annoying. To avoid any problems, look for staff that has been recommended to you by fellow expats, and pay them more than average.

Scams: High
Getting to pay the right price for things is a challenge in Jakarta when you are or when you look like an expat. Most of the times, it only requires negotiation, but sometimes, it gets tougher. Taxis are usually a pain in the ass: Apart from the reputed Blue Bird and Express brands, many drivers will try to get more from you by using various tricks: No meter, longer routes, fiddled meters. Beware also of “fake” Blue Bird taxis: They look exactly like them but belong to other companies. The danger is not so high, usually you only end up paying a few dollars extra, but in some cases, drivers can get violent (it happened with girls travelling alone).
Some people will warn you about credit card fraud, and you should be cautious about that. The same precaution applies when you want to change money: Always prefer a bank rather than street vendors.

Police: High
Having to deal with the police is one of the worst annoyances in Jakarta for an expat, especially if you own a car or a motorbike. Personally I take a personal pride in never bribing policemen, but to do so you need to be “clean” and have all the appropriate documentation with you (a copy of the passport, driving license, etc..).

Political instability: Low
Many tourists are afraid of the potential instability of Jakarta and Indonesia. I know many people in Malaysia from Chinese descent who refuses to come to Jakarta, because they are scared of what happened during the 1998 riots. I also know many people who are afraid of going to a Muslim country, because they think people won’t be tolerant if they say they are Catholics. I think there is absolutely no reason to be scared. Indonesians are among the most welcoming and tolerant people on earth. Terrorism is only supported by a extremely tiny minority, and you will realize that Indonesia is not the dark, dangerous country some medias are trying to describe.

Health Hazards (Food poisoning, pollution, etc): Average
Jakarta is often dirty and not always very hygienic. It is very easy to get small diseases or asthma. If you are fragile, or if you are travelling with children or elderly people, I would advise you to be prepared to be in a hostile environment. I think if you avoid the most risky situation everything should be OK: No walking, no street food, do wash your hands, peel your fruits, drink bottled water, etc…

Physical assault: Low
It is very uncommon, but it happens. The most often, crime happens in Jakarta among gangs so you shouldn’t have troubles with it. Some clubs in North Jakarta have the reputation to be controlled by mafias, so if you want to be safe, you can start avoiding those.

For updated information about the security in Jakarta, you can check the website of the American embassy in Jakarta: Safety in Jakarta for travellers and expatriates.
