Another example; Different doctor commands different rates from their patients even though they are the same specialize field and prescribed the same medications.
Is the level of services and how happy and willing we as the customer are with that doctor? Do doctors that charges some many times more get accuse of being a CONMAN? Different products and services commands different price.

Two women beaten, robbed in taxi

JAKARTA (JP): Two women, both foreign nationals, were robbed Saturday night in a taxi they hailed in Kemang.

At around 9 p.m., the two women entered a taxi on Jl. Kemang Raya in South Jakarta. After driving for several minutes on the same road, the driver slowed the taxi and two men jumped into the backseat of the vehicle, entering from both sides.

Without saying a word, the well-built and neatly dressed men struck the young women as the driver sped away. The women shouted for help, but none of the other drivers or pedestrians on the busy street came to their aid.

One of the women said several people on the street saw what was happening but chose not to help.

"I thought it was safe to use the taxi, especially since I took it from the crowded Jl. Kemang on a Saturday night," she told The Jakarta Post.

One of the women was able to jump into the front seat of the taxi and then escape through the passenger door of the moving vehicle, suffering cuts and bruises.

The other woman was driven around and robbed of all her belongings, including her passport, a cellular phone, cash and jewelry, before being left on Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta.

Another taxi stopped and the driver took the woman to the nearest police station, where officers took her statement before taking her back to Jl. Kemang and then checking on her friend, who had been taken to Global Doctor medical center.

Media reports revealed there were 13 cases of robberies targeting taxi passengers in 2007, while there have already been six reported cases this year. Most of the victims are women.(dre/**)

In Banyumas regency, Central Java, rica-rica, a hot dish made of the meat of the basur, has become quite popular.

This dish, which is believed to boost sexual vigor, is made from basur, the local name for male manila duck, that has been cooked dry in curry spices with a considerable amount of hot chili.

Food stalls selling rica-rica basur are now easily found along roadsides in Purwokerto, including the Baturraden tourist resort, where the air is cooler. The hot rica-rica dish warms the body in such cool places, especially if it is eaten with steaming hot rice.

"In this cold weather my sales volume has increased. Usually we cook two male manila ducks a day but for a month now, we've been needing four or five ducks a day," said Edy Prayoga, 44, a rica-rica basur vendor who operates on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman in Purwokerto.

Edy told The Jakarta Post he had been selling this dish for two years and added that he could sell more in the dry season, when it is usually very cold at night.

"Rica-rica basur vendors usually do their business from 4 p.m. until late at night -- perhaps because this dish is nice to eat at night."

He added he could make a profit of between Rp 100,000 (US$10.65) and Rp 150,000 a day from selling his rica-rica. From one male manila duck -- at a cost of Rp 50,000 each -- Edy prepares 20 servings of rica-rica basur.

"I sell each serving with rice for Rp 5,000. Other vendors may sell it between Rp 6,000 and Rp 7,000. I can make a profit of about Rp 40,000 from one manila male duck. Not bad ... it pays my children's school fees."

Tarmin, 40, a rica-rica vendor in Kemutug Lor, at Baturraden tourist resort, claimed he could sell more.

"At the very least I slaughter four male manila ducks a day. When the weather is very cold, I will need up to seven ducks a day," Tarmin said, who sells his rica-rica basur at Rp 5,000 per serving.

Tarmin said he received the ducks from a traveling chicken vendor.

"Every day he comes to my house with ducks. The prices, which depend on the size, vary between Rp 30,000 and Rp 50,000."

In Baturraden, rica-rica basur sells well not only because it warms the body in cold weather, but also because many salesmen spend the night in the area.

"The hotel guests are very fond of rica-rica basur," Tarmin said, adding that the hot, male manila duck meat was a good aphrodisiac.

According to Edy, it takes at least four hours to cook rica-rica basur from the time the duck is slaughtered until the dish is served.

"It takes a long time to boil the meat, which takes at least three hours. Duck meat is tougher than chicken meat, so it takes longer to cook," Edy said.

Although the meat is cooked for a long time, Edy said, it does not shrink in size but ends up with a rubbery texture.

"If you cook chicken meat in boiling water for three hours, it will shrink. So if you use chicken to make rica-rica, you can hardly make a profit."

While the meat of the male manila duck is being cooked in boiling water, Edy prepares the ingredients.

"After the duck meat has been cooked in boiling water, it will be put into the wok and mixed with the stir-fried ingredients.

"There are about 15 kinds of spices for rica-rica, the most important being pepper, galangal root, bay leaves and cinnamon. We don't use food additives such as MSG. All ingredients are natural," Edy said.

Roby, 33, a customer from Cilacap, said he liked the dish, particularly because of its very hot taste.

"I like it very much. It is very hot and it is nice to eat with steaming hot rice. I can guarantee you will be sweating," Roby told the Post at Edy's food stall.

"If you eat this, your sexual desire will be boosted. I don't know why. Perhaps because of its hot taste or because of the duck meat," he added.

Meanwhile Yuni, 26, of Jakarta also said she liked it very much.

"The dish tastes really hot and the meat is rubbery and tasty," she said. "Unfortunately, it is not sold in Jakarta. If it was, I would but it regularly."

Edy himself does not really know whether or not the rica-rica basur has an aphrodisiac quality, although many of his customers have said so.

Almost golf course charges RP 300,000-500,000 max on the week day and it could go up to RP1,000,000 plus for some of the golf course on the weekend.

Your know how much we hate to kena police raid, well there is not much we can do to avoid it unless we have tons of money.
Well last night my local supplier was showing me around the city, and in the middle of it he got a call from a police officer to avoid these streets and these times. turns out to be true, when I ask him what he had to paid to have informations and why would you need such a service?
His answer was sharp and short; don't want and don't need the hassles.
But the down side is that he has to keep paying the cops every month regardless of the raids, and the price is huge.
I did not have the heart to tell him that I used a sex travel company to take me around when I am in town and they charge me a small fee for each trip and I almost never get raid and if I do get stop I never get hassle as the ground handler would handler everything; within 5 mins we are on our way.
A small fee for a great service, unlike my supplier who pays the cop every month for nothing.

City hands recycled meat problem to restaurateurs

In a bid to prevent recycled meat from entering the markets, the city administration Tuesday called on hotel and restaurant managers to better process any meat they discard.

Governor Fauzi Bowo said he had asked the tourism agency to coordinate with hotels.

"We will monitor the hotel waste. The agency should warn these eating establishments that anyone who is negligent in disposing of the meat will be punished," he said.

Fauzi made the comments following news from West Jakarta, where scavengers had taken meat, some rotten, from a dump in Cengkareng and resold it to a cottage industry. The discarded meat was then processed into meatballs and other types of processed meat and retailed.

It was reported most of the meats came from hotels and restaurants.

Tourism agency head Arie Budhiman said his agency had told the Indonesian Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) to monitor their food waste.

"We don't know at the moment what the correct treatment for waste is exactly. Perhaps we'll ask them to destroy the excess food using equipment which hotels and restaurants commonly use," he said.

The head of PHRI's Jakarta chapter, Krishnadi, said the association supported the city's request.

"PHRI members have agreed to shred the meat before sending it to the dump," he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

According to data from the Jakarta statistics agency, there were 306 hotels in 2006, consisting of 135 classified hotels, 135 unclassified hotels, and 36 "other types" of accommodation.

Arie said his agency's blaming the recent meat debacle on the hotels might not have been fair to the hotels since the meat was already outside their purview. He added the so-called garbage meat may have come from individual households.

"First of all, the sanitation agency should provide sophisticated garbage containers," he said.

After the investigations in Cengkareng, West Jakarta Police confiscated the meat and two meat processors from the cottage industry, which could process 50 kilograms of meat per day. Police have also detained suspects.

Chaidir Taufik, West Jakarta husbandry and fishery agency head, said after the police had taken 5 kgs of rotten meat for evidence and further laboratory research, his agency destroyed the remaining 50 kgs in Dharma Jaya slaughterhouse in Kapuk, Cengkareng on Monday.

"We have deployed our staff in 68 neighborhood markets and 24 supermarkets," Chaidir said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The price of beef has been rising during the fasting month of Ramadan, from Rp 12,000 (US$1.30) to Rp 60,000 per kg. In several markets the price has reached Rp 72,000.

Fauzi said he did not know why the rotten meat recycling industry could operate for five years unhampered. He said he would not let such incidents occur in the future.

PKS seeks porn bill as 'Ramadan present'

A power play within the House of Representatives has ensured the legislative body will pass the pornography bill, which critics deem a threat to citizens' privacy and the country's pluralism.

Although the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Prosperous Peace Party (PDS) have rejected the bill and ceased discussing it, the debate on a draft of the bill continues.

Out of the public spotlight, the House working committee deliberating the bill is set to table the final draft to the House's plenary session in the next few weeks, with many contentious articles left unchanged.

"We are boycotting the process because we can't have a dialogue on articles we disagree with. They just pushed for a vote to settle every contentious matter. And they're moving forward without us," PDI-P lawmaker Eva K. Sundari said.

Golkar politician Harry Azhar Azis said passage of the bill seemed inevitable, given the unwillingness of groups supporting it to seek a compromise.

"Unless there are widespread rallies against the bill across the country, the constellation will not change," he added.

Eva criticized the bill for criminalizing victims of pornography and threatening the country's pluralism, adding the proposed law was based purely on morality rather than legality.

Muslim scholar Siti Musdah Mulia also slammed the bill for failing to distinguish children from adults, models from producers and distributors or private domains from public spaces.

The bill duplicates other laws regulating the same issues, including the criminal code, the child protection law and the cyber law, she said.

Both Eva and Musdah agreed the draft contained a vague definition of pornography.

According to the bill, pornography encompasses activities such as artwork or poetry -- expressions capable of distinct interpretations by different groups or individuals.

"Pornography is any man-made work that includes sexual materials in the form of drawings, sketches, illustrations, photographs, text, sound, moving pictures, animation, cartoons, poetry, conversations or any other form of communicative message," reads Article 1 of the bill, a copy of which was made available to The Jakarta Post.

"It can also be shown through the media to the public; it can arouse lust and lead to the violation of normative values within society; and it can cause the development of pornographic acts within society."

According to some observers, Articles 9 and 11 of the bill -- which pertain to actors and models -- criminalize victims of pornography while Article 21 allows any group or individual in society to take part in preventive measures, opening the way for hard-liners to take the law into their own hands and commit violence against others.

Rights activist Hendardi said those in support of the bill seemed to be using the momentum provided by Ramadan and the upcoming election to push for its passage.

By contrast, Mahfudz Siddiq, chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the House, said Indonesia was in urgent need of a pornography law due to widespread moral decadence.

"It will be a gift for Ramadan," he said.

The PKS and other Muslim organizations, such as the Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI), are staunch supporters of the pornography bill.

Winning Muslim support and refining the image of corrupt lawmakers ahead of next year's elections are motives behind the effort to pass an anti-pornography law, observers say.

With the majority of them pushing for passage of the bill while setting aside more urgent draft laws -- particularly, the presidential election and corruption court bills -- lawmakers have chosen their priorities based on what promises the greatest political return, critics added Friday.

"Legislators seem to be very pushy about the porn bill. They know it could increase support ahead of the elections, particularly from a large number of Muslim voters," said political analyst Arbi Sanit of the University of Indonesia.

"In the first place, the bill is not intended to solve problems with pornography, but merely to win elections," he added.

"Lawmakers, in general, are seen as corrupt. Now they want to seem as if they supported anti-pornography as promoting good values and serving the aspirations of Muslims. But, in fact, they only want to polish their image."

With the 2009 legislative election just several months away, there are fears the bill will not be effective, given its rushed deliberation, said Ikrar Nusa Bakti of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).

"Winning the election is the only thing on the minds of lawmakers now. This would make them less attentive to the substance of the bill," he added.

"If they want to gain more Muslim votes with this bill, they should rethink the notion that all Muslims agree with mixing religion and the state," Ikrar added.

The House of Representatives has been divided over the controversial bill, with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Prosperous Peace Party (PDS) rejecting it, while the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and other Muslim-based factions insist on its passage.

PKS faction chairman Mahfudz Siddiq said Indonesia urgently needs an anti-pornography law due to widespread moral decadence, adding his party wanted the bill to be a "Ramadan gift".

Lawmakers, human rights activists and legal advocates opposed to the bill have criticized it for criminalizing victims of pornography and threatening the country's pluralism.

Critics have also said deliberations over the bill lack transparency as they are occurring out of the public spotlight.

"The deliberations over the bill have dismissed public involvement. Only in the final minutes did we hear it would be passed. There must be an agenda behind this," said Bivitri Susanti of the Indonesian Center for Law and Policy Studies.

Her office, along with other organizations, has lodged a complaint with the House against the bill, but received only defensive responses, she added.

"The bill is still unclear in many parts, and this will lead to public misinterpretation. It is not fit for the present conditions of our society," Bivitri said.

Woman slapped in road rage incident

JAKARTA: A six-months pregnant woman and her husband said they were assaulted hit by a passenger in a car with a military license plate in the center of the city Saturday.

The woman was driving near Monas when another car with military plates back-ended her car, tempointeraktif.com reported.

The sedan drove away but the woman drove after it and stopped it. She demanded the driver's identity card and driving license.

Her husband, driving another car, soon joined her and they drove away from the scene together. However, the military sedan followed them and blocked them on Jl. Sudirman. A man emerged from the back seat, went to the other car and grabbed the husband through the open window. He order the husband to get out of his car and hit him twice.

The woman tried to intervene and she was also struck.

The unidentified man then asked for the driver's documents and left.

The couple tried to report the case to the police but were turned away. The police reasoned that any report against military personnel should be file with the military police. --JP

There is no love on the streets of Jakarta. The capital might even be on the brink of war, if the heated emotions on the road are any indication.

It seems the city's motorists, motorbike riders and public transportation drivers are not only competing for space, but actively loathe each other.

Lenny, a 29-year-old who commutes by motorbike between her home in Kamal, West Jakarta, and her work in Kalideres, also in West Jakarta, finds it hard to deal with bus drivers and her fellow motorcycle riders.

"The bus or public minivan drivers really drive me crazy. They pick up and drop off passengers in the middle of the road," she said Tuesday.

"They also drive carelessly. For instance, they have the right-turn signal on when actually they will turn left. That's so annoying."

She said riding a motorbike, especially for women, needed extra concentration, care and patience.

"Motorcycle riders often slip in between cars to find a way through. I prefer not to do that because it's too dangerous. I'd rather wait behind the cars until the traffic moves on," Lenny said.

The upshot of that, she said, was other riders beeped their horns and yelled at her, pressuring her to move forward.

Her reaction in the situation is to say calmly, "Hey, I don't want to move forward, OK? Why don't you find another way?"

Motorists, too, find it hard to deal with their fellow car drivers. Adi, 32, who commutes daily with his wife between Bekasi and his office in Palmerah, West Jakarta, said he was annoyed by how other motorists drove.

"They park or stop under the 'no parking' or 'no stopping' signs ... I've been wondering how they got their license," he said.

"It really does stress me out. And that's not including the bad manners of public transportation drivers."

But the public transportation drivers refuse to shoulder the blame for the traffic congestion.

"We just want to pick up as many passengers as we can. The competition between drivers is tough," said Agus, a public minivan driver on the route between Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta and Meruya in West Jakarta.

"I'm tired of traffic jams, but what can I do? It's not easy being a mikrolet driver, you know. Thugs in some areas, including Tanah Abang market, often force me to give them money."

The 41-year-old driver added that, rather than blaming the van drivers, people should blame the increase in the number of private cars and motorcycles on the roads.

"The motorbike riders are also a big headache for me. They act as if they own the streets," Agus added.

The combination of traffic congestion, chaos and carelessness can affect road users' physical and mental state.

Lenny said she often felt exhausted, caught colds and had cramps in her hands -- symptoms she never felt taking public transportation.

"Although it only takes about 20 minutes to ride between my home and my office, it makes me very tired. When I get home, I usually lie down and listen to music to relax," she said.

Adi also has his own way to relax. He chooses to listen to music or the radio in the car to reduce his stress.

Psychologist Ratih Ibrahim said it was important to find other things to do during these trips.

"You have to be realistic and find alternative solutions when facing bad traffic," Ratih said.

"If you cannot look for the positive side, it can affect your physical condition."

She suggested motorists bring food, books or portable music players to help pass the time during the trip and to avoid traffic congestion by finding other routes or staying a bit later in the office.

"You can spend your time having dinner or doing exercise with your friends, while waiting until the rush hour is over," she said.

[2]do not get cheated by the venues and their mamies [very rare, but sorry to say sometimes it does happen.]
[3] make sure that the clients feel safe when they are on our tour.
[4] and lastly make sure the girls do not take advantage or even worse steal from our clients.

If people do break the law, for sure they should be punish, but in Jakarta sometimes if you do not know the law, you can easy be kena played.

I believe in honesty and professionalism. If a tour agent is not honest how can I trust him to provide me with good and reliable services. I will also doubt that the agent will "protect" me from the odds that you sometimes will encounter when cheonging the night scene and not forgetting dealing with the police.

Recently, I was with my wife on my way back to the Sheraton Hotel in Surabaya when the police pulled our taxi over in a blockade about 100 meters from the hotel.

There must have been around 40 police officers -- some in uniform and some others not. They stopped my taxi and they asked for our documents.

They wanted to see my passport, which I had at the hotel, and then hassled my wife for her documents. She is Indonesian and they said she needed documents from police for me to stay with her, even though we are married and were staying in the hotel.

She finally asked them for their own documents with their names so she could write them down before they let us go.

This was clearly an attempt to get money from us and I am truly surprised that the government continues to allow such actions to occur.

Is this the friendly atmosphere for business that Indonesia is sending to the world. I feel sorry for the local people who are more helpless and have less power to stand up to such strong-arm tactics. Such blatant corruption should be an embarrassment to the country.

We have never so far in the years of doing the tours not able to solve any problems that may arise on the road, as we belief to prepare for the worst, so almost nothing can surprise us. Experiences does help, we always learn for incidents that happen over the years.
We try to be on top of any situations and we will do what is necessary to minimize the risk.

I know that in Indo, when you want to work with the authorities, proper/ly or not = another issue, it's a standard or common practice that there will be some kind of "fee" involved, again properly or officially or not = another issue.

And if like you said, you work with the proper authorities and let's say in proper way cos you do not pay them? Then they should also be working properly, so how can they just simply provide you with the supposing polisi classified information on where and when their road blocks/checks will be set up, in order for you to plan the best and safest routes for your clients???
If you don't have "special" connections, then how to have special arrangements with situiations? So whatever you claimed you could do or provide seems not too convinencing leh....

I think it'll be cheaper and safer to ride in RainMan's car, only need to carry my passport where ever I go (which I almost never did). Imagine going to cheong with a big and thick book in your pocket, you may end up losing it end of the night, especially after some heavy raba raba with the cewek in the disco or KTVs hahaha..... And with RM's car, don't even need to pay driver and bensin cos it'll be under his company or even his own account, which I don't care hehehe....
Only thing I need to do is, buy him a few nice n cool BintangSSS from the tap in AH's bar counter, that also most time he paid wahahaha, where to find such fine blah....derrrr........

On a last and serious note, no matter what, there is still law and order in Indonesia especially in the capital Jakarta where the government are, it's not as bad or scary as what some had projected it to be. And don't have to worry much about not knowing their law, all basic law in any where is almost similar, no matter what country you are in. Unless you are talking about law on setting up businesses, buying properties ect ect.... Otherwise it's basically simple common sense, like if you go steal, rob, rape, do narcotic ect ect, you've broken the law. For as long as if you don't break the law, no one can do anything to you. They can try all they want, but if you stand firm, they will leave you alone.

Compare to Singapore, Jakarta is a mountain of red tape, not just in the business area but in our day to day requirements.

Like you I've traveled all over Jakarta alone and till date have not had any problems and yet a few individuals here inssit that the Jakarta people & poilce live to make all you tourists and mongereres life difficult! I have gone for a tour operated by a reputable tour operator and he does not have cronies telling people Jakarta is dangerous and the only way is to use his tour whereby you wont get into trouble! Precisely, even for a NORMAL TOUR AGENCY, they are responsible for their tour customers once they signed the tour package making sure end of the day they still reached back hotel safely and tat the services they receives are all tip-top, otherwise wats the fricking point of paying extra for these type of services, might as get "Free and Easy" travel and jus book a bluebird or limo from the airport then get his number, pay him to bring you around.

It would depends on where you want to live, but the price range goes from RP5,000,000 all the way up to RP 25,000,000 per month.

Red Square is one of the hip...est club in town. China town AKA Kota is a great place to hang out, Emporuim is a good for a start. It is about 1 hour ride in good traffic from your hotel.
Cab fare is about RP50,000 to RP 70,000 in good traffic.
Local is about RP800,000 and import RP 1,500,000 for a session.

Bro Tanjong Priok is an industrial park and near the sea port. The roads are always jammed and packed with heavy trucks etc.

If your project is centred at Tanjong Priok, best to find lodging in the same vincinity that will cut down travelling time. If you are taking a renatal unit in that area it is going to be much cheaper than those in Jakarta. I am not sure of the price though. But at least 50% less. Renting a car and driving it yourself is not a good option with the conditions of the road. Better to rent a car with a driver, you will thank me for this afdvise. Renting a kijang may cost about 800,000 per day for a 12hours duration. Anything after that is rated OT.

I checked the package, without driver, 4-5 Kijang is abt 6 mils. I was thinking of this, but later realise I rather take taxi. More economic n less headache dealing with an Indo.
